You should definately come. We like visitors and we don't follow them around. On the controversy of other countries, we don't keep our english lanuage knowledge for ourselves and most people speak 2 or 3 languages. I for example speak english, french and italian and i'm planning on learning japanese and spanish really soon. The standards of hygiene are very good. of course you have to visit towns and not secluded villages. Of course there are lots of private places were you will not even dream of that are inb secluded areas, but they cost something more. Try Crete (elounda beach), or Evia, Peloponisos (agii theodori), Ipiros (Arta), and the islands of course.

I've been to Greece a couple of times, but only tourist areas like Zakynthos and Halkidiki. It's true that standards of hygiene are somewhat lower than in other Mediterranean countries such as Spain. The drainage systems are pretty antiquated and you have to put used toilet paper in the bin! However, to make up for this, it is a very beautiful country with stunning beaches and clear blue sea, and although the people are friendly they're not OVER-friendly. The food is pretty good as well. I think you should take the opportunity and go!

I wish I knew where did you in Greece that gave you such an impression. In Greece we have the same standards even better than most cities in europe. Even our hotels are better than some in european countries.

I have been to Greece many times and I was actually born there.
The people are NOT dirty! Go into any Greek's house and you will see what i mean. They are almost obsessive about cleanliness. As for the plumbing system - yes it is true that you can't flush toilet paper down the sewer system because it blocks the pipes.
Go and you will be surprised at how progressive Greece is -and the people are really fashionable and beautiful.
