Copying others Avtaars - Can/should that be reported ?

I just saw the recent discussions and noticed someone has copied my Avtaar.. now my avtaar is like my IDENTITY. i know i don't remember all usernames as much as i remember avtaars. If someone on my mylot friends list would change their avtaar, it'd take me long to figure it out. So do you guys think if someone 'stole' my avtaar i should report him/her - OR i should just shrug it off thinking someone did it by mistake like browsing thru the net they liked the same pic ??? is that possible ??? I would really hate ppl to think i'm making those stupid posts which the other person is, using my avtaar. and i really do hope ppl don't get fooled and respond to his discussion instead ?????? I'm confused. pls advice.

That depends. If you created (or own the rights to) the art work used in your avatar then it is YOURS and they can't copy it. If, on the other hand, you got it from somewhere else, they have just as much right to use it as you do.

Yes I agree. The only way is to use some of the mega bucks (lol) from mylot and purchase your own avatar maker and maybe we could come to you with our request to make us a personal one that no-one else has. What a great idea!. But not too dear please. mmm 45.000 avatars at one doller each. No forget what I have just said and don't tell anyone I think I,ll do it myself.

I agree with you totally... If it is not yours then it really isn't your identy, anyone could be using it. Now if someone start using mine, then I will have an issue with it. LOL

I Agree. If you created that it must be Yours

right maybe that person doesn't know and then it's cool coz dat can surely happen....but it'd be bad if he's doing it knowingly... thats what bugs me.

She doesn't have the right to tell someone else they can't use a certain picture unless she made it. It's not that big a deal.

It is possible that someone came across the very same picture on the internet but I would say that it's more likely that they just copied yours from here. I think that a lot of people go by the avatar beside your name to recognize you and possibly remember that they enjoyed your past discussions, thus responding to more of them. You raise some good points and I would suggest that if you're really worried about it, just change your avatar and notify your friends that you've changed it. I'm sure people will eventually recognize that you've changed it and will start responding to your discussions again. If you haven't noticed, mylot is constantly making improvements to their site and so if enough people become concerned with this issue, they might add it to the guidelines.

I believe it is unavoidable to have 2 or more mylot members having the same Avatar. I have 2 friends in my friendlist having the same Avatar cos they both happened to be the fan of an animation movie " Madagascar", so I use to identify my friends via their username not Avatar, this way I will not confuse among my friends. My suggestion is, if you see another member with the same Avatar as yours, why not you take the initiative to change yours first, afterall, this is no big deal, you can use the same cartoon character but in a different posture.

I saw that the other day as well, I thought it was you so I was responding to all the discussions thinking I was helping out a friend. Then the name caught my eye, and I was like, "hey! That's not simplyjo!"

Well, did you make the Avatar or you did just come across it on-line and picked it to be yours? You don't really own it and you can't force someone to change their graphic just because it's the same as yours. It happens.

IF you want, I can create you a decent avatar that is copywritten so no one is able to copy it and use it for their own.

i'd say just let it go. its just a picture. but if they copied your identity as well, meaning the same name and stats as you, you might want to just notify mylot to look into it and they'll decide if that person is breaking any rules since they'll have the information on each person on file.

Yes, it depends on the avatar. If it's a generic one, one that you have no right to own, then it's just as much as their right to have it as it is yours. If it's yours and they copied it without your permission, then yeah, report it.

Maybe put copyright on your own photo next time when it is your own obra.

I too think it is wrong it make it harder to follow who is who. I look at the avatar before the name. I seem to remember the pictures quicker than the names.

If it's not your own picture you've taken or a picture of yourself, it would probably be harder to decide on the matter if there was an option to report it. I know it is frustrating though, because like you said avatars tend to become people's identity on forums like this and it can cause confusion when someone has the same.

My avatar is my own, not something off the internet. I took this picture last week. If someone tried to use it as their own, I'd be fuming. Afterall, those are the stairs in my house and that is my hamster jumping down the stairs.

Actually I think that we should give the benefit of the doubt. COuld be a real coincidence, or the other party really likes the avatar he has copied, or something along that line. I would think that most people should focus on the username to prevent being fooled.

i think there is no problem in it and it can not be reported , infact, i think that it should not be reported but i also think that the avatars should not be copied.

Depends on if that avatar has rights yes can or should be reported but if the avatar is very famous on the net not should be reported its stupid from my point of view, have a nice day.

If you have taken the same from a net then you can't claim that it is your Avtaar. Suppose a person who happend to see the same picture in one of the site, if he likes, he can copy and paste in his collection.
