I guess just telling thanks for reply just fro the sake of responding to the replies to your discussion does not make any sense. Rather try to rate the replies.

In such cases like yours you need to have both the things with you
Whenever you are out you have to carry your laptop and PC is suitable when you are at office or home.
If you want to buy only one at present then go for a laptop in the begining.
This will solve your present professional need very well.
because every time collecting data files on CDs is not safe & good all the time.

I prefer both...a desktop at home and laptop for work I am a mobile kinda guy and need to be always in touch of Internet so laptop serves my purpose here. At home I use my desktop for various purposes like watching TV, listening music etc..
Good laptop companies are....
Acer, Zenith for lower price
IBM, hp-compaq, Toshiba, Dell...for robust and high end laptop.

ive been looking for my desktop replacement laptop....anyway here is my suggestion
id go for HP and/or SONY
but if you could find a laptop with the ff. specs...go for it
2ghz+ Dual Core 2 Processor
200gb dual hard disk
2gb ram expandable up to 4gb
top of the line vid card that runs vista as smooth as possible
HD-DVD drive with a dvd burner --- BLUE ray if its a sony..i think they dont do HD-DVD hehe---
web cam included
17" monitor to transform your system into a mobile entertainment tool.
good battery life but its not a must depends if you are always on the go
ive seen these specs on desktop replacement notebooks from HP and SONY
if anyone knows of other brands, please inform me...

I have a desktop PC and a laptop. I use a broadband router, so that I can use my laptop anywhere around my house.
I love my laptop, It is a Toshiba Satellite. I have had it for over a year and have never had a problem with it. It is ready for wireless connections and I can pick up signals in many different places. For the quality of the machine, and it is lightweight, so it makes it easy to get around with it.
My daughter has an Acer. It did have a few problems, and had to be replaced within the first month. The replacement has been a good computer and I like the screen size a little better than mine. Of course, it is also a little heavier.
Whichever brand you get, I can almost promise, you will love it. Shop around, and look for a good bargain, because the price of them vary greatly.
