No, you do not have to verify (add bank account information) to your paypal account. I don't have it on mine either, because I am skeptical for anyone to have my banking information. The only thing is that without a verified account, you can only use the money in your paypal account to make purchases through merchants that accept paypal, such as ebay, amazon, there are many others now too. I know Toys R Us accepts paypal. You just have to check with the merchant you want to purchase from as to their payment options. I hope this helps you out.

Yes, you would have to create an ebay account if you wish to spend it there. There is no charge to do that though, just be sure and check the sellers shipping and handling costs before you purchase anything, in order to make certain that you have enough money. There are many retailers though that are now using paypal too. I am really surprised, it is great.

Its not necessary that you provide all your credit card details and bank info to receive money from paypal. U can alternatively get cheques delivered at your postal address, if you really feel insecure in sharing your info. on net. So, its truly your choice about which one u prefer. And you can choose postal delivery option in paypal if you wish to.

Thanks for starting this thread as I was also skeptical about sending my bank info over net. I guess if we can withdraw money without verifying the account its okay. I was wondering how will I take out my money. I think you really helped me too by starting this thread.

Yes, don't worry about it. You can skip the linking part and do it and you will decide to withdraw. Don't worry. But be sure when you do it, to have all antivirus protections on and have your pc scanned before you make any transactions.

Paypay is ligitimate. Just make sure you are actually one the real Paypal site before you provide any information. Many theifs out there are creating webpages that look almost identical to the real thing. Paypal, Ebay, AOL, etc all have people creating bogus sites.
One way to make sure you are in a secure site is to look at the address:
http:?? vs https:// Notice the "s"? The "s" stands for "secure."
Also, try to navigate to various areas within the site. A real site would have many pages like FAQs, About us, Contact us, Mission Statement, etc.
Good luck and be careful.

I suggest you can try any of the following options :
a) If you are really hesitant to give bank account information on net then don't give. Go for a check withdrawal from Paypal. But you may have to pay a higher charge for checks.
b) Ensure your PC is secure (Firewall + Antivirus installed and they are up-to-date). Check your PC with Spybot. If you get all clear then choose a safe browser like Firefox/Opera and log into Paypal. While doing this do not open any other site from your browser. Next you access your account and after you have completed your work just log out of Paypal. Now remove all temporary files, cookies, exit the browser.
As because Paypal is accessed via a secured encryption process it should be safe but still if you can do step-b then you will be safer. I think this should be ok, but keep in mind you are secure till the point no one is breaking your security.

My middle name is paranoia.. or maybe caution :)) So what I did is open another checking account, a "totally free" one, and one without a minimum deposit, or was it a minimum deposti, but no restrictions on using it of course, and I use it only for paypal.. For a few months all that bank account had in it was about $3. but since it is a "totally free" checking account, it just sat there, no problem.

You can trust Pay Pal. Make sure that you see the yellow icon on the bottom of your screen of a lock. I have used Pay Pal for 5 years, and it is safe. Just never ever give out your password to anyone. And if you get emails from Pay Pal asking personal info, it's a scam. Never give it out after registration and you will be fine.

Hmmmm, "You can trust PayPal..."
I beg to differ - no you can't. Or to put an alternate viewpoint, you MAY trust them until they do the Royal Dirty on YOU. And there are LOTS of people who have been done over by PayPal. It's a little like a Payment Processing service being run by the Mafia (no disrespect intended to the Mafia). They have a legitimate business going, but they'll have no hesitation whatsoever in squashing anyone who they take a disliking to, or just for the Hell of it even (Hell with a capital "H" because it's a real place, and that's where PayPal will eventually go).
I actually HAVE a PayPal account, but it has NEVER been used, not even ONCE. It was black-banned by PayPal back in 2003, when they were being sued in a Californian Class Action Lawsuit for ripping off their customers blind - which they lost in early 2004. I made the almighty mistake of declining a UNILATERAL revision of PayPal's customer "agreement" during the midst of that lawsuit when PayPal was frantically trying to cover its big, fat, ugly, hairy, crooked BUTT. So they LOCKED my account (which had never been used anyway) PERMANENTLY. Further, they also LOCKED any of the DETAILS associated with that account (name, address, phone no, bank and credit account details, etc) from EVER being used to create a NEW PayPal account! So I have a PayPal account which can NEVER be used, and I can NEVER EVER create a NEW PayPal account. And why? Because I was so foolish as to CROSS PayPal when it was being sued for being a bunch of underhanded crooks - which they still are, by the way. I get a farcical run-around by PayPal whenever I approach them on this subject.
You can bet there's an awful lot of OTHER poor dumb schmucks just like me out there - PayPal roadkill, for want of a better description. All I can say is, thank goodness there are an increasing number of alternative payment processors becoming available on the Internet.

Incidentally, in line with my previous comments, PayPal is apparently now owned by eBay, ie, it's an "eBay company". But IMO apparently the crooked, bash-artist, monopolising CULTURE upon which PayPal was built hasn't changed - whatever eBay has gotten it's hands on, it's just as bad as it ever was...
If anything, the PayPal story is remarkably similar to the Microsoft story - lots of roadkill from crooked practices in both cases.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for starting this discussion. I just recently got my first PayPal account and was worried that because I hadn't put my bank information in yet that these sites I'm working to get money from may not put it in there until I did. So this was very helpful. :) I don't trust sites with that info much either. It's a dangerous place out there these days...

You don't need to verify unless you want to move more than $500 a month. I happen to make quite a bit of money online so I verified. It is fine.
If you are nervous, go to a bank that has a free checking account and tie your paypal to that. When you deposit from paypal, take that money out of the account. No worries.
In reality online banking is a zillion times safer than face to face bank transactions and buying something in person.
PayPal started out as the pay processor for ebay and has had great reviews by all the consumer reporting agencies.
Beside the fact that they have tough user rules, they are great to use.

I've been using paypal for a long time and have had no problems with it. I think you would need to add either your credit card into or your bank details. Just ensure that your computer is uptodate with the latest security measures!

I have used PayPal for several years and have not had any problems. One time they even helped me with an item I purchased, paid for and did not receive. They will send you a check but you have to pay a fee for that. A transfer to your bank account is free and only takes about three days.
