Abuse: Using News or Reviews to Post in myLot!

I love myLot for the simple fact I can discuss a lot of great things, from just fun things to serious topics. I am quickly growing tired of having to sort through all the *really* meaningless conversations, but I am more than annoyed at the amount of posts I see that all they have done is copied a news article or a movie review and posted it.
Doesn't this just annoy you too? It's probably not as obvious as those who duplicate their own posts multiple times or copy and paste others' discussions.
It just drives me insane and I feel compelled to report these, just as anyone would feel compelled to report any other abuse.
I don't seek them out, but so many people are trying to get away with this and I find it so hard to find interesting topics to respond to (everyone's view of interesting is different, but this really isn't about what's interesting or not).
Do you feel compelled as I do to report these people to help myLot clean out these users?
Let me know what you think about this disgusting practice!

Just posting an article and nothing more, in the hopes that it sparks conversation, doesn't seem the right way to go about having a discussion. I often post links and little blurbs from the article itself, and also post my own thoughts about it.. then ask what others think. I think this is fine. There are some cases, however, when mylot's hyperlink function isn't working right, and the links do not show up properly. So then people can't go to the link. For example, somebody asked a question about what her Autistic child might be like as an adult. I believe I had already answered her question from my own view point.. then today I saw an article that was written by an adult who has autism. So I posted the link and the article itself (in case the link didn't work), and said that it might be something worth reading. Since I believe I had already previously responded to her, and was contributing more to the conversation, I don't feel I was doing anything out of line.

I'm all for quoting in your discussion, but this was out and out blatant copy and paste from some review/news articles. It was clearly not the user's discussion and they never ask anything at the end. and even if they do write "something" it's almost always at the end of a HUGE post followed by a "What do you think?" Which is wrong.

I'm with you! My little abuse key and the negative rating key have been getting a lot of use lately. It might take a while, but I believe that MyLot will clean this up, as long as we continue to help them by reporting abuse and using the ratings appropriately. Eventually, a lot of these people will simply go away, because MyLot will adjust their rating and earnings as conversations are deleted, and they will get mad.
I've seen a lot of these copy and past a news article and call it a discussion posts; at least they could briefly describe a news topic, say what they think about it/make their own comments, and provide a link to it. That would make it a worthy conversation starter. If I simply wanted to read the news, I would go to CNN.com
Keep reporting, but don't let it ruin your time here!

It doesn't take a specialist to see that someone has blatanly copied a news article or a movie review.
I'm not talking in vain at all. I'm discussing how disturbing and annoying this problem is. myLot will eventually get these people, but if we can help, all the better.
I don't let it ruin my time here, but it's still bothersome.

I didn't see someone's post was really deleted by mylot. Did you see that? So, I'm not sure if my will truely delete some meaningless discussions or just deduct their earnings. Anyone who wanna reap without sowing is bond to get punishment. Anyway, those guys, who just copy and paste things, are limited to have ratings beyond 500 by new rules. It seems working so far.

Now let me see...Hummmm, yes, there are many discussions started about cutting and pasting, meaningless discussions adn the like before....so does this make you the pot or the kettle??? Not trying to be abusive, I'm just curious as to your understanding about "similar previous discussions"!
Many people are posting for the $ aspect of myLot and after all that is what myLot want...ahh but within the rules!
So this being a revised discussion in the image of others... does this make your discussion against the rules??

Not one bit. I did a search for topics on this before I wrote it and I didn't come up with anything. The problem there is the search engine isn't very efficient at all.
Plus I am not cutting and pasting, which is what this discussion is about. I understand what you are talking about, but you definately don't understand what I am talking about (again, no offence to you either as I respect your comment and even gave you a plus!).
My discussion doesn't have anything to do with "similar previous descriptions" at all - it's about cut and paste discussions that aren't really discussions but news reviews or articles... many of which don't even ask a question.
To summarize: I am neither the pot nor the kettle, you are not abusive :), you didn't understand my discussion topic, people do post for money but they need to observe and abide by the rules, and while this may have been discussed before it is my own words and feelings on the topic and I followed the rules and did a search before I generated the discussion :)
I can't be held responsible for an inefficient search engine :)

Just the other night i was looking for a discussion to respond to and someone had about twenty discussions that they had started in the last five minutes that were all just news stories. I think that might be the reason mylot has make the new rule that only people with 500 or more posts can past things into their discussions and responses.

If you read the new guidelines carefully though it's only pictures that are limited to users with a rating of 500 or more. Which still doesn't help much with this issue.

Nothing wrong from discussing your point of view on articles you have read in newspapers and so on but I think many forget that there is such a thing as copyright.
Sadly these days copyright seems to mean so little not only for newspaper articles but artists, writers and others who work so hard on their work.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving your view of news articles or movie reviews, but you can obviously tell a cut and paste from a personal opinion.

Well, having left Yahoo answers alone because of this kind of stupidity, I have to agree that it needs to be stopped. Some of us are into some real discussions and these yoyos make it pretty difficult. Today's top user has posted a bunch of stupid questions just to get picked as todays top user it seems. I hate seeing those two or three word answers like I don't know.
I actually saw someone copy and paste someone else's response so I thought that was pretty lazy.
Can't police it though really, it's all open to whatever.

Actually you can police it, by reporting it to myLot :) But I agree with you, often the content of the discussion is just a cut/paste of the topic title too... and there's the people that copy other users posts and then the people who do what we're talking about in this discussion.

I agree. I don't have a problem discussing something in the news or a review but not posting the whole article. Hopefully with all these changes myLot is incorporating they will be able to handle this as well.

Yes, I report anyone that copies and pastes a news article. They clearly are trying to abuse the system.

yes,i also find it very annoying that people on here are doing this i have not found any interesting discussions on here in a while.people need to sit down and think before they post.because my lot is getting awful boring seeing these lame discussions.

I agree with you 100%. I think Mylot is trying to cut down on the abuse but it is too big for them to catch everybody. I also have a hard time finding meaningful topics to discuss. Sometimes I come across one that strikes my interest but not as often as I like. I'm not ready to give up yet though. Maybe we need to get the ball rolling ourselves and see where it takes us. Thanks for the interesting comments.

Yea i think if people have an opinion to share with us they should type it themselves so 1. it tells us exactly what they think and not someone else and 2. its actualy legit and not taken from someones elses hard work..
of course people always want the easy way out in life ..

I had also faced some problem because some users send there responsesin yes / no or single line for several times by copy-paste it. Because of that my mailbox is getting ful of un-necessory emails but i had to check out the resposes and because of these responses it is going time cosuming to check out good one responses through mailbox.

I agree with you. If I want to discuss an article or something I have read elswhere, I try and put it in my own words with my own feelings on it.
I guess its just easier for those to copy and paste, the most I do is put a link or something. I do report people that do that, and one liners, or one word. Sometimes I see responses that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Seems like they dont read it, they just strive to be the first person to respond to a new discussion.
They say they are sorting out things like that and trying to keep them from even being seen. I hope that they do come up with a more efficient way to keep this from happening. Sad how only a few people can ruin it for the whole bunch.

Thanks! It's the same in the real world... shoplifters cause the price of goods to go up, various bad things people due cause gas prices to rise (as well as problems beyond our control, but that's another topic!).

I agree I don't like that either. It is annoying becasue I would ratehr see more discussion, if I wanted nes I would go to a news site not a discussion board. I think you should report it. Thanks for helping to make thsi site better for us all!

You should report them! I report them. I think everyone should report the cheaters on MyLot. I think it's stupid that people have to cheat, in order to make money. I think more and more people should make money honestly.

No they didn't, it's only photos that have been restricted to people with 500 or less points. As far as I read it anyway, and I read it pretty thoroughly... though i'll have another go at it.

I can appreciate your curiousity, but a response like this is actually against the rules. Something like this would be fine in a message to me or any other myLot user. That being said, if you'd read the posts you'd know exactly how this works as it's been said many times! ;)
