You can buy extra memory for your pc. Clear out the cache and internet options as well as cookies. Run virus and spy ware checks on it.

even i used to have this problem, now i kind of got rid of it. follow this regimen: 1. get rid of scrap files and folders, music files, videos 2. do disk cleanup, and defragmentation 3. clear history, delete cookies and temporary files from IE properties 4. scan ur computer for virus everyday 5. take backup in CDs and in a back up drive. hope this helps

I too have the same configuration. U can delete Temporary Internet Files from Tools menu in IE , delete cookies, run Anti-virus from time to time, have online anti-virus programs so that no virus enters ur PC. Keep ur PC free , i.e. store ur programs, files, data in CDs so that there is a relevant space in ur PC. this will surely speed up ur PC.

check your computer thoroughly by antivirus and spyvirus software. Delete all temporary file from temp folder in your windows directory. run scrandisk or chkdisk utility to check hard disk error. also run disk defrag utility to organize your disk.

My pieces of advice for you are these: 1) Add more RAM. An XP machine should have the minimum of 256 MB. You have the bare minimum, since your PC is sharing RAM for video. 2) Buy a video card with at least 128MB of Video Ram on the card. This will accelerate your PC phenomenally. 3) Buy a hard drive that has at least a 16 MB cache buffer (holds your frequently accessed files in memory of the hard drive) and has a 10,000 or more RPM speed (can access the fresh data faster). 4) If your motherboard and pocketbook can handle it, by a DuoCore processor. These run as fast as two, they run more efficiently, and with less heat (making your pc faster). All of these combined are about $300 in upgrades if you shop smart online and are able to do the upgrades yourself. You'll have a PC worth about the price of the newer $1000 ones.

try using CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) to remove all of those clutters on your PC

Well, you can also try disabling certain services in your system which is not in use.. One thing I hate the most is system restore service and the themes. I always disable it, becoz it take a lot of space. When something goes wrong, a say a virus, it just cant restore it to point. Last thing you can do is upgrade your memory..
