Beatles: Favorite song?

Beatles - The Beatles were a highly influential English rock band from Liverpool, Merseyside. They are the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful popular music band in history.[1][2] The innovative music and style of John Lennon (1940–1980), Paul McCartney (b. 1942), George Harrison (1943–2001), and Ringo Starr (b. 1940) helped to define the 1960s, and they continue to be held in high regard for their artistic achievements, their huge commercial success, their role in the history of popular music, and their contributions to popular culture. Although their initial musical style was rooted in the sounds of 1950s rock and roll, the group explored a great variety of genres, ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock.

The Beatles were the best-selling popular musical act of the 20th century. In the United Kingdom alone, they released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries: EMI estimated that by 1985, the band had sold over one billion discs or tapes worldwide.[3] The RIAA has certified The Beatles as the top selling artists of all time in America based on U.S. sales of singles and albums.[4]

The Beatles were a major force behind the "British Invasion" of UK-based popular bands in the United States in the mid-1960s and they helped to pioneer more advanced, multi-layered arrangements in pop music. The Beatles' impact extended well beyond their music. Their clothes, hairstyles, and statements made them trend-setters from the 1960s to this day, while their growing social awareness — reflected in the development of their music — saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

Beatles Fans, what's your most favorite song of them? Mine is Here, There and Everywhere for its melody. Here, There and Everywhere (Lyrics) To lead a better life I need my love to be here... Here, making each day of the year Changing my life with a wave of her hand Nobody can deny that there's something there There, running my hands through her hair Both of us thinking how good it can be Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there I want her everywhere and if she's beside me I know I need never care But to love her is to need her everywhere Knowing that love is to share Each one believing that love never dies Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there I want her everywhere and if she's beside me I know I need never care But to love her is to need her everywhere Knowing that love is to share Each one believing that love never dies Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there To be there and everywhere Here, there and everywhere ****Facts about the song 's favourite McCartney songs, and is also one of McCartney's favorite songs of his own[citation needed]. Written at the poolside of John's house, the song was inspired by Paul's then fiancée Jane Asher. The song is known for its bitter-sweet tune, a creative harmonic scheme, and subtle arrangement. Many have claimed it to be a landmark triumph of the soft rock genre. Critics of the track allege that the song was inspired by the kind of material Brian Wilson crafted for The Beach Boys on the classic Pet Sounds album. The cheerful melody of the verses is counteracted by the more haunting minor modes of the bridge. Paul in fact mentioned in the 1989 radio series McCartney On McCartney that the beginning with its ooh-aah backing vocals was meant to have a Beach Boys sound. This track features one of McCartney's highest vocals; he said in his autobiography that he was actually trying to sing it in the style of Marianne Faithfull. Paul's vocals are multi-tracked.

It's so hard to choose one... I'm a bit biased though in that they're usually Paul ones :) Can I choose two? I think Carry that Weight/The End is great - beautiful melody in the beginning and I love the lyric "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make". So true. My other favourite has to be Helter Skelter. Such a great rock track with its pulsing guitar riff, and I love to hear Paul just letting rip with his vocals!

I love that song! I used to listen to it over and over until I learned the words. My favorite song depends on the album, the year, my age, and what was going on in my life at that time! There's almost a lifetime of Beatles' memories specific to live events...

My favorite is "Something", followed closely by "If I Fell". Truth be told, it's really hard to narrow it down to just one or two. The Beatles freely admit to being influenced by The Beach Boys, and that "Pet Sounds" was the inspiration for "Sgt. Pepper". BTW Jane Asher was the sister of Peter Asher, 1/2 of the British invasion duo Peter and Gordon ("World Without Love" among others). Peter later became a music producer of some note.

There are so many great songs I could not possible choose just one. Some favorites that come to mind are "If I Fell," "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," "Don't Pass Me By," "Baby's In Black," "Things We Said Today." I could go on... Our grandkids like "When I'm 64" and "Yellow Submarine." We turned them all into Beatles fans too!

This is hard. "Something" is achingly haunting and sublime. And so is "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I'm quite undecided, really.

My favorite has got to be Let It Be. It's both a sweet tribute to Paul's feelings about his mom and can be seen as spiritual if you choose to see Mary as the Virgin Mother of Jesus. This was not Paul's intent, of course, but you can look at it that way and find it spiritually uplifting. I also find the melody to be very soothing.
