"my-lotiquette"

There are a few things that I have noticed since joining MyLot. First and foremost, I have found that there is not a lot of "my-lotiquette" going around. When I respond to a message, I try to leave a positive rating. The only time I sway from this is if it is worth a negative. When I write a discussion and people respond, I leave positive feedback for everyone because I appreciate their time on my discussion. I do not put up discussions that are just lame...I mean, ONE WORD? I would like to hear your "my-lotiquette" and the ideas that you have to share on how we can make things here more positive and rewarding... thanks in advance for all posts....

I think that when I look at the list of discussions I started, and if it says the last respons by "somebody", and if that somebody is not me, I have not done my duty. So I go to that and make sure that I am the last responder by reacting to responses. I also rate everthing positive. I am an optimist, and am unable to see the negative side of things. I always go and check the discussions with 0 responses and try my best to remove the 0's from there. I also note that though everyone keeps complaining, the quality discussions are mostly having a 0 response.

I am exactly the same. Although, if I have a sucessful discussion (meaning alot of responses) I find it hard and time comsuming to respond to each and every person. Which is one of the reasons why I always give everyone a plus. While I may not have time to thank and respond to everyone I can give everyone a plus.

Yes, I really like your idea on posting on discussions that have no posts on them. We want to make our community grow and we want each member to feel valued, so, responding to discussions that have no posts is wonderful. I sincerely try to respond to each person that contributes to my discussions, but, I too, find it difficult if the discussions get large which is why I also rate everyone positive if they comment on my posts - it is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the participation on my discussions.

I am quiet new to mylot joined just yesterday night. Lot to learn yet. Yes but i do feel that we should rate the responses received on our discussions. This is a thing which i have to do now for all my discussions. Thanks for this post as i have learnt a lot by going thru all the valuable responses and ur post.

I've noticed that a lot of discussions are dull & uninteresting, but get a lot of views, more interesting and worthwile topics seem to be practically ignored. perhaps Mylot should give extra bonus for discussions posted and / or pertinant replies if they fall within a certain number of words, too few words shows that the person is only after the money, but too many words could put people off reading them, say 60 words +- 20 could be a reasonable amount.

I think leaving feedback and rating is an important step. Everyone should be doing this. If these people who are just gaming the site get enough negatives, they won't be making anything here and will eventually go away.

I am new to myLot and since I joined (yesterday, I think) I make it a point to check my list of friends to see if they have new discussions that will catch my interest and I respond using my own views and as honestly as possible. When it comes to my own discussions, I stick to topics that I feel I'd be able to maintain and be able carry on the discussion without sounding awkward when giving comments to those who contributed to my it. Yes, I also try to thank the people who respond to my discussions and give a few comments as well but I don't comment on every response. Only to those responses where I am compelled to comment on. Mostly the ones that I like. But so, far I like everything that's there. Even those that go against my views. It helps me to think more about the issue at hand. Negatives? There is this one time when someone gave me almost a whole page of "copy-pasted" article as a response and it was right after I read the myLot guidelines! I didn't actually lash out at the guy. I just said that it was a good comment but I couldn't give the credit to him. After that another person contributed a line which was... guess what? My own! I thought that was really funny, I mean, would you do that? Geez, I thought that wasn't allowed!

what i usualy do is that to rate those posts which really conform to the said discussion since there are members who just keep on pasting some thing on a discussion which has nothing really to do to the said discussion. seems to me that they are just trying to jack up their rating or some thing to that effect. greetings. : )

Yes, I have found many conversations that seem to lean towards the fact that people simply want ratings - which is inappropriate. It does not go to say that wanting ratings is a bad thing, but we should lean towards quality and not quanity. Thank you for your response and input - it is much appreciated!

I do make a comment to the majority of responses I get to all of my discussions plus I give a best response to the one that I think is the best. As long as the response is well argued, and I feel that person might deserve it they will get it, even if they think contrary to what I do. Also I give positive ratings but not to everyone, as I think that devalues the rating system. I will also give our negative ratings, but that is generally if someone puts in something inappropriate or doesn't respond to the discussion, i.e. puts in a response totally different to what the discussion is about.

I think we should start only meaningful, serious discussions which i do. i don't start discussions just because i want to increase my ratings. I think we should discourage one word discussions, yes or no type discussions or discussions where only question is posted and the wirter has not given his opinion. i think we should discourage all these discussions by not responding to them or give negaitve ratings.i tend to ignore them. Besides i try to repsond quality discussions, top discussions where important issue is discussed. beides i also try to respond to all discussions i have started by giving feedback. and i also try to post error free discussions on mylot by checking for errors.

You have a lot of great ideas on this manner. I certainly agree with you. You are right. We should also pay close attention to the rules on MyLot and if something goes against the standards that they have set for members, we should rate the discussion negative and report abuse so that these postings are eliminated from the system and people are discouraged from posting similar discussions. Thanks!

first of all i would like to compliment you on your choice of discussion topic. quiet a new idea... i would like to add a couple of more to it. 1. Always respond to the people who have posted comments on your discussion threads. 2. Try to go and answer on new discussions or discussions with zero responses.

I am with you in this point.Sometimes I could see some posts which is hurting and discouraging. Some are nonsense, some are critizising somebody's belief as a GOD's follower, why can't they think to post something profitable and informative for the benefit of mylot users.

I always try to give relevant answers and write properly, i.e., I re-read what I wrote before posting and correct the typos if necessary. I wish more people did that too... :)

Yes, I appreciate your input on this. I have found, though, that it seems that many people on here do not speak English as their primary language. I appreciate the effort that they put forth to try to communicate with us based on what they do know. I will not condemn a person on using improper English and Grammar as long as I can see that they are trying, and I think that is what you are saying as well. Thanks for your thoughts on this!

The one thing that I notice when I respond to a discussion is whether the author has responded to others in the posts. One thing that helps me decide whether my response might be worthwhile is if the author takes the time to respond to my comment. That might lead me to post more in the thread and lead to a more rewarding discussion
