Why can't we collect rain water and send it to places that experience drought?

Some places get SO much rain, and others are so dry. Does anyone know why this can't be done?

here in my country, there is a huge project under constructing----to send water to places where it is needed. it is not designed through pipes but rivers----dig chanels and lead water to places where it is supposed. this project had begun and included several lines. one of the greatest is the one that send water in south of the country to the north. this will benefit both southern part and northern part---less drought in the north and less flood in the south.

by the way, money that used for this project is paid by the government.

In theory that is a good idea, I guess the cost of shipping it there or trucking it there would be expensive.

with all the money we've donated to help the 3rd world country, why can't they use that? i still see homeless, bony, skinny children laying on the sand covered in houseflies on tv... what happened to the cash we've contributed?

With your question, I don't know if I have the answer. I have read in a Army National Guard magazine that North Carolina's II32nd Engineer Detachment are currently drilling water wells in Africa. They are also fixing broken water wells for the people in that area are not having to drink out of local oasis and was getting sick because that was all the animals drinking water. With time, I pray that this detachment will be able to provide water for everyone that needs it and for the local people not to worry about the wells breaking down. I live in Tennessee and we are way below our water levels for this year, California is worse than we are.

I have often thought about having the Army Corp of Engineering putting in large pipe line to and from different sections of the country for pump ;water from the flooded areas to areas that need the water. But who would benefit, the rich and politicians . Not the farmers and the poor unless it could be done right. And anything that the government does is not done equitable. And there there would be the thrives that would divert water from the pipe lines for their own use even if they did not need it. Areas along the cost could try to move icebergs to their area and use the melting ice for their use. They could comer it up to keep it from melting too fast. There are many other things that could be done to ensure that more people have water that needs it.
