Do you supersize when you eat at a fast food place? For .67cents you get lots of fries, a bucketful of soda, a super-duper burger, get lots of fries, a bucketful of soda, a super-duper burger, all that can end up costing you more than $7.oo in the end if the extra calories turn to fat. they included the cost of more food needed to sustain a heavier person, more gas to transport a heavier body, and the extra medical expenses associated with weight gain. For people already overweight, 67 cents worth of supersizing resulted in $7.72 total cost; even for normal-weight people, the cost was more than $4.
Still worse, carrying around extra pounds leaves you at higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, some forms of cancer, and high blood pressure. So are you going to supersize the next time you go to a fast food eatery? I’m not . I think I will start ordering the kids meals from now on

I don't eat fast food as such and even if I did, this would certainly not be attractive to me. From the company point of view it is a fantastic selling idea because many people think that they are getting a bargain. In fact what they are getting is a lot of potential health problems when they are older.

It is true that when people see and smell these fast foods all else goes straight out of their mind. Many are aware that it is not good for them and that supersizing exceeds their daily limits, but as I said they just don't think about it at the time.

I use to think it was a good deal and I was not worried about weight. Now I HAVE to keep my weight under control so I am careful as to what and how much I put into this vessel called my body.I rarely eat out anymore anyways.

I am not overweight, so that's not the case for me. I eat at fast-food only when I am really hungry and need to eat and there is no other choice. I usually order "super-sized" portions food at fast-food, because I don't usually get satisfied with standard portions.

no i do not supersize..its just extra calories to an already high calorie fastfood..
its also annoying that the counter girl/boy keeps asking 'would you like to supersize that'?
but its part of their work..
oh well

Well I would say for satisfying my taste buds and my stomache, yes it is worth it to supersize my meal. Unfortunately when I'm ordering from a fast food restaurant, I rarely think about what it's doing to my waistline or health in general. What really surprises me is that the salads you order from fast food can actually be worse for you than a burger! I remember reading that a salad from Mcdonalds is actually worse for you than a big mac! I guess I shouldn't feel so bad for passing up the salad at Mcdonalds and going for the tastey burger instead :)

I have heard that about salads from places too! I know that when you slather a salad in a whole pack of high fat dressing, put on lots of cheese, lots of croutons, and crispy fried chicken, I can see how the calories would add up. I know that at taco bell for example, their taco salad has so much more calories and fat in it then a lot of their other menu items. it's scary how deceiving a salad can be!

I do sometimes when I eat out. It is worth it because I don't eat this junk food everyday. There was some study done and I couldn't believe that Americans consume something like 300 burgers a year. Unbelievable. I normally eat healthy but don't deny myself if I want a burger every now and then. It's all about moderation.

I think it became a fashion to want to get enough food for what you spent, that every type of restuarant began offering bigger portions so that now we want them and expect them or we think we are being cheated! And the idea that we have to feel stuffed to feel like we've eaten enough, is a mistake a lot of us make! Good points you made.

I have never fallen into the 'supersize' trap, perhaps the fact that I rarely enjoy fries has something to do with it, I always thought of it as a waste of money, and since I became overweight, I realised that it is a risk to my health as well.
I try to avoid fast food whenever possible, although I have been eating way too much of it lately (having a colicky baby does not leave us a lot of time to cook)

I live in the UK so the sizes of atleast the mcdonalds portions are different...our large is your regular and we dont have supersize anymore, but that was an america version of a large. The portions are pretty big to begin with but what many people are saying on here is that you gain weight and have to pay more to get home etc etc. Thats only if you are eating the things all the time and not exercising. If you go once of a month or whatever then I would feel the extra fries and such are worth the money and if its infrequent then wont damage your healthy much more than a regular meal!

The funny thing about upsizing at McDonalds is your really not getting that much more. The larger drink comes with more ice, and they have free refills anyhow. The larger fry is maybe ten french fries. So is this really worth it?

I am happy with the regular size. I've even been known to get the kids meals when they have the beanie baby promos, just to get the babies!
My husband on the other hand will supersize. I think he has a larger appetite and that is fine. All is happy.
We rarely eat at fast food places like McD's. Too unhealthy!!

I used to super size everything, but all that food used to make me sick! Now I do exactly what you said, and order the kids meals. There actually really is enough food in those, you definitely aren't going to go hungry!
I think it would be ok to supersize or eat a full meal if you were only doing it VERY occasionally.

I think the fast food restaurants price the meals so that it makes more sense economically to supersize, but it's so bad for you to eat that much junk that I don't think it's worth it at all.
And yet I have to confess that there are times that I still do it. This is usually so I can get the huge drink and I most likely won't finish the fries, but then I do have them and I'm more likely to eat too much.
I have heard that McDonalds will stop offering the supersize option in an effort to encourage better eating. I wonder if other fast food outlets would follow suit if they do this. Maybe if the option were removed it would help with the growing tendency of Americans to be supersized themselves.

Here in Brazil they exist Fastfood, however they are not so expensive thus.
Here they cost in R$15,00 average who are equivalent $5,50 more or less. However expensive places exist very that arrive the cost in dollar ones $12. And is not so good thus.
Therefore my family preferred to make our food in house. It is more practical, taste and more cheap.

I don't know if you have watched the movie " Super Size Me." If you haven't do watch it. Its about a man who goes on a 30 day McDonald's bing.
I do agree with you on this subject. I can't see paying that much more for more grease and fat. I heard that in other country's beside's America(from the Super Size Me movie) that there portions are smaller.

Agreed. If I'm coming home from a hockey game and decide to stop at a Wendy's or BK with my friends, I'll probably supersize, but normally I wouldn't.

I don't go to fast food places very often. If I do, I don't even think about super sizing. I would just end up waisting most of it.

Love it or hate it, fast food is a part of our lives. Tens of millions of fast food meals are served safely every day. But with 200,000 fast food restaurants, keeping them clean and the food safe can be an enormous task -- and, on occasion, mistakes can be made and customers do get sick.
Is fast food is eaten on a daily basis yes it is injurious to health but every once in a while i don't think it causes much harm
