My other half and I quit smoking in late 2004 but started again almost a year later. Stupid, stupid, stupid! We're about to quit again - January 1st is the quit day. The last time we quit we used the patches. I used them for 5 days and my other half for about 2 weeks. Quitting wasn't as hard as I thought it would be but I thought I could have "just one" a year later. Wrong!!!If anyone else is about to quit and wants to buddy with me on this, I'd love the support and it might help us both. Also, if you've quit smoking, please share your suggestions and tips with the rest of us.

Hiya ...i've been a smoker and a toker for 30yrs, but as of 14 Dec 2006 I went cold turkey. I got patches and gum but have not used any so far as I intend to do without if I can. It has not been so tough as I expected. But I heed your warning about trying "just one". No way! :) Good luck and stay strong. You have done it once. Show me the way to beat the .....awful stuff.lol

I have been trying *unsuccessfully* to quit for nearly 5 months now. I would love to buddy up and help support you and your other half. My other half can hardly breathe at night the way it is and smokes twice as much as I do. I know that if I can quit successfully, I can help him quit. So far the only thing that I have found that even remotely helps is to always keep something to drink handy (for me it's coffee or a coke most of the time) and a bowl of suckers (lollipops) handy. Gum helps some people, but it doesn't help me at all. The patch did nothing for me. I have heard that the "Smoke Away" plan works, I think that may be the next thing I try.

Never been a smoker, did not like it when my loved ones were. Thoughts and prayers, too, for you. Think of all the money you will save, I know you are economical, and think of the health benefits--you are my friend who is diabetic, right? What a great new start to the New Year!

well mate i know its pretty tough to quit smoking,as you know that its a deadly addiction.i have been trying to quit this smoking thing for about some time but without success.but i think quiting smoking is all about will power and one's ability to restrict him/herself.and i know, by surveys and research it has been proved that if we want to quit smoking then we have to do it at a time and restrain ourselves from going back to it........i hope this suggestion helps....

Hi! I had been puffing away like a steam engine for about 17 years. In this time I think I had stopped smoking about 3 or 4 times for intervals ranging from 3 months to 1 year. I finally gave it up in 2003. I was in Dubai then and one fine day I just thought that it is a real long time since I got a good sleep and it is the stick which is not letting me. I stopped for a few days and yes there definitely was a change. So there and then I decided to quit smoking. I have not smoked since then. I think it is all in the mind. We just make up excuses to smoke. Some people can't crap without smoking, some smoke to stay awake, some to get sleep. This is all rubbish. Smoking doesn't help in any way. If you want to quit you just have to have a resolution cast in steel. All the best in your efforts.

dude if you really want to quit, and by quit i mean staying away from it once and for all then you have to stay away from people who do......that does include your friends, or any other peer. if you stay with them no matter how hard your will power , you wont be able to quit.... the best way is to stay away man.............. no matter wat happens, dont give in just disstarct yourself.......

Well I've got a sucess story involving my sister and her journey to quit smoking. It sounds like her story is similar to yours actually, as her and her boyfriend (now husband) quit together. I cannot imagine how they did it, but they didn't use patches, gums or anything...I think they just relied on eachother for support and it really helped them through it. I'm sure if you and your other half support eachother, you'll get through it :). You did it once, I'm sure you can do it again. Good luck to you both...:)

I am going to mark this post down in case I decide to give it a try in the new year. I have not been ready (that could just be my excuse) to quit but I know that I should. I think that you have a great idea to get some people connected to do this

I was not a smoker though, i was addict on eating tobaco for a very long time of 15 years.finally, i was able to quit the tobaco at one stroke.Though, it was a dificult task.will power is the only tool which helps to quit such addictions.quitting such things slowly or stagewisedoes not help at all and we will be abck to same position.

This should be all of the motivation you need: My mother went to see her lung doctor about 7 years ago. He told her she was not going home. She was going directly to the hospital. Her oxygen level was at 57. He came into her room and told her she had a choice: quit smoking that day and have some kind of life or keep smoking and have a stroke and die. She is on oxygen about 18 hours a day. She has COPD. She smoked for 40 years. She had to quit cold turkey in the hospital.

Sure, you can quit too and for that you do ned a little of will power.I smoked for 7-8 years on the trot but quit it in one day.I had problems, headache, severe depression, even constipation but i resisted smoking with will power.I also started the concept of saving the money in used to spend daily on smoking.Slowly the money swelled up and it gave me immense pleaseyre to compute on a daily basis my savings. This also was a motivating factor for me although money was not a major constraint for me.My suggestion to you is that have a target and try to achieve that. All the best but quit smoking.I had once read a hoarding in an office:if you must smoke please do not exhale. What do u think of this?

One time i did this. It wasn't worth it at all. Smoking is just so relaxing. When you quit that's all you think about and it just isnt owrth it. You may get sick, but it's worth it

I quit about 5 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I still miss that after a meal one or the first one of the day, to get you up and going. I found that chewing gum was a big help. Good Luck, you can do it!

Oh my god. Bravo you have been away from smoking for almost a year and then again fall in love with it. Bad dude, but now also you can quit smoking, just stress on your mind and try to control things when you like to smoke. instead of smoking have a cup of tea or chews something. You can get success as you have tried earlier also. My uncle quit smoking at the age of 65 and now he telling everyone why he quit smoking because at that age he was already retired and have no money to smoke for it.

You can leave smoking its not hard but dont live it immediently then you have chance of starting it again you should gradualy decrease the smoking like 3 per day then two per day then one per day two days once then weekly once then leave it off .if you follow this method you can leave it easily otherwise hard

I also want to quit but it is SOOO hard. I've cut back, but then whenever I go out drinking or hang out with friends, I chain smoke again. I heard about a new pill called Chirix that is supposed to work wonders. The only problem is, it's not offered by Rx yet. good luck with quititng and I hope you both do well with it!
