I'm not sure if jokes are abuse or not under the mylot rules but i think mylot should clearly declare that they are, everyone just copying and pasting jokes from other sites and there's no real discussion or thoughts being posted..
It's funny that people just read the word "jokes" in this discussion title and started posting jokes here .. that's a good example why jokes should be labeled as an abuse, they are just copy-paste without anyone reading or caring to understand anything :(

just to inform you, as you seem to be of little education, it is possible to respond with more than just "lol" "haha" "very funny" or any other "laugh" response, maybe you should do a little more research on your topic before posting false information. But thats just a thought like everything else on this entire site, including jokes, they are a thought.

Thats true there are people who respond back with moe jokes. Those I do not have a problem with. But like the post above. It is completely off topic and It IS abuse by that, and I guess you could report it. I will give it a - . And if I see thiss person doing this repetedly( as It could have been an accident and a one time thing.) I would report it as abuse and try to find a few example pages to add to the report. Mylot tends to take care of the offenders most of the time. But they are, I'm sure, checcking everything out to be sure they really are abusers.

The Load
Load A manager was complaining in a staff meeting that he wasn't getting any respect.
Later that morning he went out and got a small sign that read, "I'm the Load".
He then taped it to his office door.
Later that day when he returned from lunch, he found that someone had taped a note to the sign that said.
"Your wife called, she wants her sign back!"

I don't know. But it isn't a response to a post. It is their posting. Some are nice and give a laugh. I don't mind, if it is in good taste.

I do not think it is really abuse I just think it is not something I can discuss with them. Therefore, they are not really going to start any discussions and get reponses. I don't report them and I mever even read them, I get so many in my email daily. I just skip them and move on to other discsussions that will help me make money!

I don't think posts that are either (a) questions such as "what color are your eyes?" or (b) jokes are valid ones. I could try and game the system by putting up stuff like "a pig, a penguin, and a rabbi all walk into a bar" as a "discussion," but it would not truly be one.
As for reporting such posts...maybe if I really felt compelled to doing so, but I am not that motivated.

After reading the other posts and finding several post that are jokes that have nothing to do with the topic,I have reconsidered. I have come to your side, to adegree. I think it would be good to make it okay to post a disscussion where you leave jokes as posts but must also anwer those post, or some other way to stop too many disscusions with 3-4 replies. There is one person who posts jokes for every reply he makes. They have nothing to do with the topic, and are very long making me believe that it is a copy/pasting, spammer without the capability of a thought of his own.

Personally I think it depends n how it is addressed, I have just read a very funny and on topic joke that was posted as a way of raising awareness about how people respond to differnt types of marketing. In itself it was funny, but it did demonstrate just how gullible the marketplace is. So, those sorts of 'jokes' I think are fine, but I must confess I get a bit fed up with endless 'so this guy goes into a bar' type jokes.

i personally dont believe that jokes should be a part of discussions. i think most of the people who respond to these jokes just copy paste them from thier joke book.
neways i never thought about this and never reported it too. i think let the people do what they want and just concentrate on what you are doing

I think jokes are also a topic. When we discuss something serious that time joke can be irrevalent, but when we just gossip jokes has a part and parcel of our gossiping.

I don't know that "joke" posts are considered abuse by myLot so I don't report them. In fact I can't even give them a - because I don't bother looking at them.
The question is more "SHOULD myLot put a BAN on "joke" posts?" and my answer to that would be a very hearty "YES! Please!"
I understood myLot is a place to discuss serious questions and to get advice. Postings like asking colour of one's eyes, or telling jokes, belong on a different forum.
Maybe if myLot is happy with this type of post, they could put another grouping in theirt title bar, keeping these in one group, which the more serious members can ignore.

That is an excellent idea, They could put a grouping for the 'no holds barred',aka, the rowdy room discussed one another discussion, which ca be found at :
www.mylot.com/w/discussions/543746.aspx?p=6
Also one for survey type ?'s such as " Which is Better? Brittney or Madonna?", would be nice.

I think if a person is posting nothing BUT jokes, then it's abuse. I've seen these guys pasting jokes into the middle of discussions and ruining the discussions. I'm willing to bet that some of those posters don't even understand English.

I think it's complete abuse! Jokes can easily be copied from any web site or joke book. It's rude to copy others material and should be banned. I also believe that any kind of copy written material can not be copied as a discussion on here at all.

quit whining because no one replies to your posts!!! Grow a set and actually put some thought into what you post!!!!

My opinion is that they are not really valid forms of discussion. Copying and pasting jokes from some other source just seems like a way to cheat the system, and doesn't seem like it actually ever creates a real discussion. Sure a lot of people will type the word "funny", but rarely do I see very many well-thought-out responses to them.

I don't really think there is anything wrong with the jokes as long as they are not offensive. For some it is a welcome change and gives a person a break from deep thought. Well for those who do actually put some thought behind their postings. But I do agree this place was more created for discussing topics, and not really sharing jokes.

I think those people posting jokesm should be reported. I believe (while enjoyable) jokes are not valid discussions.

jokes aren't abusive as topics. the purpose of mylot is to inform, entertain, and make some money. some jokes are more funny than others, but that's just the way the ball bounces

Is is supposed to be a discussion - so if a joka can open a discussion then it is not abuse, but if it is told just to be funny, then it is abuse.
No, I haven't reported any of them - I just ignore them.

I feel they are abusing the site. This is not what the site was intended for. I had posted a discussion about a friend of mine who bombarded me with 43 forwarded emails in my emails in one day. If I wanted to read jokes, I would read them instead of coming here.

I suppose though that if they are posted under a joke topic then they would probaby be ok, since that is what the topic is about. Anywhere else though would probably be off topic and should be off topic so should be removed since anywhere else would be abuse.

Just posting the joke by itself is, in my opinion, abuse though. I feel that they joke should be used in such a way as to encourage a discussion, not just as a means the telling of jokes.
If someone wants to tell jokes, they should at the very least make use of the joke to bring about SOME form of discussion, not just a discussion thread of jokes. These should be reported.

I have been told jokes by themselves are not allowed and I think that rule still applies today. But if you can incorporate the joke into a piece that includes it or tells a story about it, I think those are okay. But of course, admin would have the final verdict on the answer to that.
I know when all I did was write a joke (even an original one, which I write often) they are deleted by admin, but if it is part of a piece it is typically allowed to remain.
I think it also depends whether or not it is a one liner, whether or not it is necessarily original, or whether or not it is a story joke.
It's kind of like my "Quick Lunch," post. Technically it's a story joke. It was completely untrue and meant as a joke entirely, but it passed the test because it was original and didn't present itself like a joke might be told in normal circumstances...
"This guy walks into a bar..."
