what was your marriage proposal?

hi everyone! i would like to ask you about marriage proposals. how did you propose or how were you proposed? i have a brother who is asking me how to propose marriage to his girlfriend. he wanted it to be something unforgettable and magnificent. i think this is the best way to get ideas. let me just start with how i was proposed with my husband now. he invited me to a formal dinner one Sunday evening. when i arrived in the place i saw a lot of flowers like i thought it would be the restau openning and then i saw a huge bouquet in the corner of where we were sitting at.there was a small card and he said to me to read it and maybe the flowers are for me. i hesitated and told him that there has to be an owner. out of curiosity i read it and it was for me! my boyfriend then asked me if we could dance so i stood up and danced with him. i was so surprised since he doesnt do things like that. i mean he wasn't really that romantic at all as what i had thought. after we had eaten our dinner a waiter approached us and he asked my boyfriend if i would like a cake. my boyfriend asked me and i just told him that i think so. to cut the stoy short, the cake was served and when i ate it something strucked my tounge. i told my bpyfriend that something hard was on the cake and oh my God it was a ring! i was teary eyed and then my boyfriend then asked me if i wanna marry him. of course i immediately said yes and gave him a big hug and kiss!

I think that gearing it to her likes, interests etc is the best way to go...If she is a romantic type then a nice candle lit dinner, him in a suit, flowers, down on one knee etc etc...if she is a sports fan then gear it around that...and so on...I'm not one for bells and whistles so my husband just asked me while sitting on my patio having a cocktail together and it went something like this... HIM = "so I was thinkin..you wanna get married?" ME = "f off are you serious?" HIM = "LOL ya I'm serious" ME = "ya sure why not...you getting hungry?" LOL how's that for simple

We just realised after a number of years that we felt married already, there was no fuss or song and dance about it, once we were already married in our hearts the legal bit became just a formality that we may get round to someday if we ever feel the need.

My husband proposed to me by acting as he was hurt,he was upstairs working on something, all of a sudden there was this loud crash, and yelled upstairs to see if he was ok,he did not answer,so I ran upstairs to see was he okay,he was lying there on the floor,I kneed down to see if he was breathing, and I saw that he was breathing just fine,so I stod up,turn to go to the phone to call for help,he called my name,as I turned around, there he was on bended knee holding a ring, asking me to marry him.I was so surprised, and at the same time I was relieved that he was okay.every anniversary when laugh about it,we recently celebrated our 9th anniversary.

A marriage proposal is probably going to be unforgettable no matter how it is given. My boyfriend proposed to me several months ago-- we were at his house and he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. I don't know if he had even planned it himself-- he didn't have a ring then, so he took off one of his necklace (something he always wears because his father had given it to him) and gave that to me, instead. The next day he gave me a ring-- got down on one knee again to give it to me. The thing is, it wasn't necessarily those gestures that made it special... It was the look on his face as he did it, and the way his eyes teared up later that night, as we sat together watching a movie. It was sweet, seeing him play with the ring on my finger, with eyes misting. I think that that is the most important thing. Not how you propose, but how you feel about doing so. I could tell that he was really happy, and that made me happy. Of course, it's nice to try to do something special-- and as one poster already said, try to gear the proposal to her interests. But I think the most important thing is to show her that you care-- that you love her. That's what is going to make it special. I hope everything goes well for your brother!

I bet this has not be done before: You prospose to her! first tell them ur treating them to dinner, lunch whatever must have a little video camera at desert, ur brother goes off to men's room you propose: "will you marry my brother?" you video tape her shock and 'yes' answer (hopefully) brother comes back, he's happy, she's happy u get lost

twenty and one half years ago, my husband got down on one knee in front of me in his living room and proposed! He offered me the sweetest ring I'd ever seen, one he had picked out himself. I had no idea he was going to propose, or even bought a ring.

DOWRY??? What kind of materialistic person are you? Future will be informed by you? She doesn't get any say in it? Any woman in her right mind would run at top speed from you!

Mine was on the day before Easter and my husband hid a golden easter egg and asked me to find it. I was so excitied because I figured it was a necklace I had been hinting for. When I got the egg is was taped shut to the max! So of course I asked him to help me open it. When he got it open he got down on one knee and purposed! It was so sweet!

LOL... mine was very matter of fact. We were leaving a walk through of a home that we were going to buy together. The walkthrough was BAD and we decided not to go through with it. He asked me to turn the radio down and said that is was not a wise fical decision to buy that house. This is what we are going to do... we are going to go to the bank and get some money and go to the mall and buy a ring because I am going to ask you to marry me. It caught me off gaurd, but I said YES. LOL

My marriage proposal was made in a golf course.. What can I say, ... upon picking a ball, there in the whole string a thread with a ring tied in. My partner asked me, "Would you like to be my Golf partner for life?"...of course I said yes!

My now husband took me on a trip to Niagara Falls and he proposed to me while we were standing next tot he magnificent falls. Wanting me to be able to pick out my own ring, he simply gave me a plastic one (wanted to buy a ring pop but couldn't find one!) with the promise that I would get a real ring as soon as we got home. It was very romantic at the falls. We went out for a romantic dinner that evening and it was wonderful.
