First of all Happy New Years everyone!!
I guess it's that time of year when we all make resolutions. I think the number of people that stick to them is slim but I still want to try. I would love to lose weight and get healthy again. 10 years ago I was in great shape and then I had my daughter and suffered from post partum depression and the medications they put me on added the weight on.
First off I'd love to hear your resolutions and how you plan to stick to them. Secondly I'd love to hear from those who have dieting advice. What has worked for you?

My goal is to lose weight. I am tired of being short of breath walking up and down the stairs. The kids worry that I am going to have a heart attack. I did lose weight before doing weight watchers and started with water aerobics. I did the water aerobics because it was easy exerise on my joints until I lost so weight. Once I had lost some, then I switched to the gym. I don't know if I can afford to do weight watchers this time but I am going to do water aerobics. If you don't like water aerobics I know people who were in water aerobics with me and switched to curves. They said it was a pretty good program. Sometimes they offer specials in the New Year where 2 can join for the price of one. So if you can find a friend maybe that might be an idea. But as I drag on, I would highly recommend weight watchers if it is in your budget. It is an excellent program and you do not have to buy their food.

I've thought about doing Weight Watchers. I just don't want to join something and quit. I had bought a gym membership and used it for a month and quit. I need motivation. What I really wish I had was a diet buddy. That is what I had years ago when I lost a bunch of weight. I motivated her when she was down and visa versa. I just love food so much that is my problem. I would like to take some weight off first before I start into heavy duty exercise cause I get too out of breath now. What does Weight Watchers cost do you know???

I am not sure what the cost is now but you just have to look in the phone book and call. I know curves is not a high impact exercise program. One thing I liked about water aerobics even though I didn't know anyone when I joined after the first night I knew the people and we watched out for each other. I think I need a buddy too.

Dieting usually does not work for most people. They drop the weight and then they go right back to eating the exact same way that they were brfore and begin to put it right back on. The way to lose weight and to keep it off is not a new year's resolution but a lifestyle revolution. You must make healthier lifestyle choices that you can live with and incorporate into your daily life. You also must get more exercise than you do now. Believe me it is tough at first but working out and looking fantastic becomes addictive. If you can safely drop 5-8 lbs in the first month and even if you don't drop that much but what you do have starts firming up and you see results then you will be encouraged and motivated to do it more. Plus you start to network with like minded people who will keep you motivated and keep you true to your lifestyle changes and even introduce you to some new lifestyle options and choices.
I have almost completely cut red meat out of my diet. I work out with my fiancee and up until the holidays and a little holiday flu I was seeing results. Now I have gained all of the 11 pounds back plus unfortunately they brought three friends. So now that I have let it go I have further to drag all of it right back!

Healthy Food and to the quantity essential to maintain health could solve your difficulties of obesity, I feel.If one can control the demands of tongue, means taste, he/she can have good shape of body and good health.
About RESOLUTIONS it is not important whether you make a resolution or not, or how many resolutions you made, what makes a difference is how far you implement the resolutions!!!!!!.
I have made resolution not to make any resolution and live the life as it comes and within my limitations.

Walking, especially outside, helps me. But I haven't done that lately. I will have to get back to that. Over the holidays I found that I was sleeping in so late that I missed a meal. I have actually lost weight over the holidays. I've been careful about what I eat because my IBS has been acting up. I really didn't attack and sweet trays.
For me, walking is the best. It is physically, emotionally and spiritually uplifting. It is also not hard on your body. Just start slowly and build up. Start with a walk around the block and then slowly go farther and farther. I started that way and now walk 3 miles. Once the cold weather and snow hits I will hit the indoor walking track which will keep me more disciplined - 26 laps = 3 miles. There will be no shortcuts there. I have my counting beads and will not do anything less.
Good luck!

Happy new year to u too....
I've set myself a target of loosing 4 kgs this year... I don't wont to loose weight drastically... this leads to lot of health problems on latter stages.
The way i've decided to do is by
- drinking one litter of warm water as soon as u get up (this has worked for my friend)
- drink a glass of water before u have ur meals to reduce ur intake of food to an extent.
- take ur meals regularly at specified time of the day, probably every 4 hours, starting from 8 in the morning. no junk food in between
These when followed will reduce the weight for sure. Last year i reduced 3 kgs by following these...

Last year my resolution was to drink more water (you know the whole 8 glasses a day thing). Of course in the beginning I was completely into it, then it started to die, however, I was able to at least maintain a bit of it - I still drink much more water than I did the year before and I feel better and my skin is better, etc. So I think the key is to not overdo it but make it a lifestyle change that you can deal with.
As for diet advice - don't diet! Again lifestyle changes. I think the key is to find healthy foods that you enjoy and can stick with. I recently discovered I love apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon and splenda (not sugar!) on top. It's now my favourite snack rather than grabbing for something with tons of sugar and calories.

I don't make new years resolutions because I never stick to them but I admit I am in the mindet FINALLY to start eating well, losing weight and exercising more. The reason for that is.. I am sick of eating so much fattening stuff like I have been lately! And I need to lose weight.

For me, I practice dieting by fasting (taking very light food) once in two weeks. Mornings and upto 1 p.m. daily, I take only lemon-juice water, then few snacks and tea a little after. Lunch is on rice, dal, vegetable-curry, salad sometimes. Also non-veg preparations often. Evening time tea and supper with bread, vegetable curry and salad often. But please start your day by drinking about half litre of plain water or lemon-juice water (sweetened by optimum sugar and a pinch of salt). This will keep you fresh. Always avoid oily and butter based food. Also take fresh fruits regularly like me. Thanks.

I would like to lose more weight in 2007. I have already lost about 60 pounds in the last year or so, but it is hard to get myself to exercise daily. My family owns a treadmill and I know that I should get on it for at least 20-30 minutes a day, but I tend to go on kicks of exercising a lot and then completely losing interest in it after a certain amount of time. I also find that I am slipping back into old habits of eating more lately, so I am going to have to watch it! *laugh* But the main way that I lost the weight that I have was just simply via eating less. I used to eat far too much junk food, and have cut most of that out of my diet.

I'm going to loose weight in 2007 :D
I'm going to stop eating junk food and eat more
of salads and stuff like that and I'm going to quit eating
candy. I already quit drinking soda drinks 5 years ago so that's not a problem.
I'll just have to see if I'll have time for work out.
Hope 2007 is going to be great for you
