well don't mind
but not everyone tries genuinely to find out how one is doing
we just ask and don't care for their answers
it is always the same reply that we r doing fine and we also reply saying that we r fine too
this does not goes far
but yes hi is the best one to start conversation

It depends on the person and how close we are. Family and friends I greet with a smile, a hug or a handshake and a kiss on each cheek (I am of Italian background). People I meet for the first time I might shake hands and smile. If they are family of friends or someone I know from the internet then I am likely to kiss them on each cheek as well.

No matter who I come across they always get a hi and a smile. I pay attention to their face and if it looks like they would like a chat I will try to strick up a conversation. Some people are on their way to work or on a tight schedule and for the most part that is what they let me know in a nice way. A smile most of the time brings a return smile and it makes a person feel warm inside to get a return response like that.

It depends on the person - if is a close friend - I usually say "Hey" or I have a pet or nickname I like to call them. If it is someone I work with, I usually say, "Hi (name), how are you?" I don't usually care if they answer back on how are you -- it is kind of rude, but I think most times people ask "how are you?" but they really don't expect (nor want) an answer other than, "I'm fine." It if is someone that I am just being interested to for the first time, I will say, "Hello (name), how are you today?"
