Fruit is what is borne by a plant above the ground eg apple on a tree. Vegetable is usually part of the root system of a plant eg potatoe. Tomatoes are usually mistakenly referred to as vegetables when they are in fact a fruit.

You are quite right, however the grapes are the fruit of the vine and are found above ground, hence fruit.

actually thats right the only vegetable that has seeds is the tomato. Which is commonly mistaken as a fruit for that reason.

Fruit grows on a tree. Vegetables are grown from the ground. This is what I have always been told.

The difference between a fruit and vegetable is that fruit has seeds and pits and such as vegetables dont with the exception of the tomato. Thats why so many people think that a tomato is a fruit. It has seeds, but it is the only vegetable that has seeds. Hope that answers your question.

for those who are saying that no thats not right because what about corn? corn doesnt have seeds "in it". Corn is the seed. This is what one person says.Shes taught plant science to elementary schools. She says people ask this all the time. "The answer depends on who you are: a scientist? a greengrocer? I'll give you the botanist's answer. A fruit is the ripened (swollen) ovary of a flower. The ovary ripens when the ovules inside have been fertilized. Seeds of flowering plants always are found inside fruits." Bontanists generally dont use the word vegetable to mean a plant or even a plant part. The basic parts are roots, stems, leaves flowers/ fruit/ seeds. Vegetable is a grocery store term: Tomatoes are called vegetables to distinguish them from the sweeter fruits like peachers. Carrots are called vegetables but the part we eat is of course a root. In horticulture people talk about growing "flowers and vegetables" but that doesnt really make sense: tomatoes and peppers are flowering plants! hi friend,There is a little bit difference between fruit and vegetable, friuts can be eaten raw but some vegetables can not eaten without cooking,a friut is a matured ovary of a flower containing the seed, after fertilization takes place and the plantlet begin to dvelop, the surrounding ovule becomes the fruit. The main differnce between the friut and the vegetable is friuts have seeds inside and vegetables come from the other parts of the palnts like the roots.

All the fruits can be eaten just like that and all the vegetables cannot be eaten like that. You need to cook it before eating. eg. bitter gourd

Often time vegetable is serve for a routine meal partner to rice such lunch or dinner while fruits is consumed in not particular routine. Most of fruits are taste sweet to sour and contains more liquid and vitamin C. Most of vegetables we can eat its leaves that you cannot do in fruits.

hi friend there is a little bit difference between friut and vegetable, friuts are mainly eaten raw or with sweet things, while vegetables are cooked or served with savoury salads. The borders are fluids, tomatoes are used as fruits and alos as vegetables,so are apples, and even carrots, they are definetly not friuts.fruits grow in trees or from a plant, vegetable is plant on its own.Fruits have seeds, melons grow on the surface, vegetables in the surface.vegetables change their next form in to friuts but fruits next stage is not vegetables.
