Homemade Pudding VS Boxed

I prefer to make homemaded pudding. It is simple and easy to make. It is so much better than boxed mixes. Here are a couple of recipes: Vanilla Pudding INGREDIENTS: * 3 cups milk * 1/4 cup cornstarch * 1/2 cup sugar * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract PREPARATION: Scald 2 2/3 cups of the milk. Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt; stir in remaining 1/3 cup milk. Add to scalded milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Continue cooking vanilla pudding for about 5 minutes to thoroughly cook cornstarch. Cool vanilla pudding slightly; stir in vanilla and pour into serving dishes. Vanilla pudding recipe serves 6. Chocolate Pudding INGREDIENTS: * 3 squares unsweetened chocolate (3 ounces) * 3 cups milk * 1/4 cup cornstarch * 1/2 cup sugar * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoons vanilla extract PREPARATION: In a saucepan, cook 2 2/3 cups of the milk with chocolate, stirring until chocolate is melted and milk is scalded. Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt; stir in remaining 1/3 cup milk. Add to scalded milk and chocolate mixture and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes to thoroughly cook cornstarch. Cool slightly; stir in vanilla and pour into serving dishes. Chocolate pudding recipe serves 6. Enjoy!

I love warm, homemade chocolate pudding. Top it off with a dollop of whipped cream and you have one of my favorite comfort foods.

Thanks for the recipes. I'm not sure if I will like them as I am not a fan of cooked pudding. But my boyfriend might like it. I prefer the instant boxed pudding and only chocolate. I am so fussy.lol

Whenever I had guests over for dinner they would often ask me to make the homemade chocolate pudding. It really tastes so much better than the boxed type.

Homemade pludding is the only way to go. I tried instant pudding once and it was gross.

Thanks for the recipes. Generally, I will make homemade puddings if I am making something fancy for the holidays, or a dessert for an event. But, if I'm making a quick snack-like dessert for the kids, I'll use the boxed brand. I remember when I was little, my mom used to always use the brand 'My-T-Fine' pudding that had to be cooked on the stove. It was actually the brand of choice before there was the brand 'jello'.

I will use the pie filling recipe that uses egg yolks. There is nothing like homemade chocolate cream pie.

Sounds delicious .. and I am not really a fan of puddings .. I think one of the most important things to remember is when you do make your own foods from scratch they are freshly made .. any food product that is intended to be stored before being eathen has to have preservatives in it .. along with other undesirable chemicals that are intended to make sure the foods will cook properly once mixed .. Buying ready prepared foods also means you are probably going to be spending more money too .. and lastly the thing I miss most if I don't make my food from scratch is the smell ... when food just needs heating up those wonderful scrumptious homebaking smells don't have time to permeate through the house .. they don't have time to get your taste buds going and by the time your nose realises what's going on you've probably already eaten half your meal Fresh baked for me any day ...

I have to be honest here. All your recipes are the reason I ended up joining myLot! These both sound incredible. I've never thought of making homemade pudding before. I always thought it'd be way too hard! These sound so yummy and oh, so easy! I'll definately give them a try.

home made is better because we tend you add more ingridients than what are in the recipe, we tend to make it super delicious... than a boxed which is blended in the factory...

i like both kinds of pudding because box'd is quick and still very good but homemade is always very good when you get the time to make it even tho it doesnt take too long to make.

i always prefer home made pudding, and not just the ones my family have cooked or my mum. but i like to get involved myself. i love making bread and butter puddings, these are my speciality. i remember going round a mate of mines, we got bored so what did we do...go out and smash a phone box? rob an old lady? cause aggravation in local shopping mall? .... nope... two 16 year old boys went to the shop and bought some eggs, vanilla pods peaches and a number of other ingrediants, and then made ourselves a delicious pudding. i would have much rather have done this that gone and hung about on a street corner or similar. khris
