written in 2006 - you just have to have read them in 2006. For me its: 1. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger 2. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd 3. A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham 4. Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs

Gosh! Just four books? And the bad thing is, I have a horrible time remembering the names...including names of books! LOL OK...and not necessarily in this order... 1. Harry Potter Goblet of Fire (wanted to read it before seeing the movie) 2. Immortal high witch series...again by Maggie Shayne (Eternity, Infinity, Destiny, and Immortality) I love this series too much I will probably re-read it every year. 3. Speak by Laurie Halse-Anderson (It was something my daughter read and she wanted me to read.) 4. Wildy Winston by Lori Foster (4 anthologies taken from the orginal anthology compilation to make one book about the Winston brothers. An awesme book...but I actully had to by 1 anthology and another that had the three...they published the Wildy Winston with the 4 stories and it was not here locally...so I had to buy two books to equal one. But hey! That better than buying 4 different anthologies! :)

Well for me the best I read this past year would be: 1. The Deed of Pakesennerion by Elizabeth Moon 2. The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown 3. The Adept Series by Deborah Turner Harris and Katherine Kurtz 4. Harry Potter (I reread the series this past year) 5. Xanth Series by Piers Anthony (read a few books from it this year) I'd recommend them all to anyone. They are all very good.

I've very much enjoyed the Temeraire series (Naomi Novik I think), and I've reread the Earth's Children series (Jean Aeul), otherwise I've mostly read non fiction this last year.

Fantasy Lover by Sherilyn Kenyon which was a really good book...its the first from her Dark Hunter series and after that I was hooked LOL but right now i'm reading J.R. Wards vampire series which is even better... A Child Called IT by David Pelzer was AMAZING I read that in two hours, I couldnt put it down... I cant think of a fourth though

Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde 3. The Ways of White Folks by Lagston Hughes 4. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder - reread it for the thrid time this summer this is one of favorites. 5. Hallo, Ist Da Jemand? by Jostein Gaarder - I spent four months in Germany learning German so I thought I would read at least one book in German.

I am going to break the rules of your discussion, and list only one book i have read in the past few years. There are many good ones, but only one in particular had a pretty intensive impact on me- "This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen" by Tadeusz Borowski, published in Poland after WW2. It is a 'collection' of concentretion camp stories, written by a man who survived Auschwitz and Dachau..He describes the differences and similarities between the executioner and the victim through his recounts of experiences and his demeaning state of life during that time..He survived only long enough to put much of the horror down on paper, as he opened a gas valve on July 1st, 1951, taking his own life..He was not yet 30 years old.

1. The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova 2. Life of Pi - Yann Martel 3. Oscar and the Lady in Pink - Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt 4. We need to talk about Kevin - Lionel Shriver I have lots more I could add to this, but I think they probably stand out for various reasons. I feel I should probably have put number 4 as number 1 because that was such an amazing book.
