Suicide

My ex-wife's sister just comitted suicide by shooting herself in the stomach. I have dealt with depresion for years but have never felt bad enough to do this. She left behind her 6 year old son and tons of folks who cared about her. I know very little about actual suicide but I do know that she had to be in extreme pain for her to do this. Just like the commercial says "Depression Hurts". She shot herself in the stomach. Even though she was beatiful I know her self image was in the toilet. She constantly compared herself to the "Hollywood" look. I believe there is a reason she shot herself in the stomach and it is related to how she viewed herself. Any thoughts on this?

well this is all sad...this is all in gods hands....and i know how you feel sorry for your loss...it's to late to be her friend but you can be other depressed people friend ...

Thats awful, the current fixation with airbrushed surgically enhanced figures has a lot to answer for. I feel for you all at this sad time and hope you can all remember the good times rather than her dispair at the end

Depression is horrible and the worst thing is you can't think straight to try and sort it out.
I don't think that was an easy way to die, poor woman, I really feel for her and for the rest of your family, especailly her little boy, whatever must he be thinking and feeling right now.
Society give us ideals that we feel we must live up to, it's awful and terrifying that this causes our own feelings of worth as a person to suffer. We should do our best to be healthy and happy but how far do we need to go, if we cannot achieve what is percieved as acceptable then society should still be able to accept us.
I feel so sad for all involved.

Depression is obvious for persons who compare themselves with others. However, why stomach?
Possibilities are many:
may be pregnancy
may be big belly
may be patches on skin
may be any disease

Now see,,,thats just selfish, to kill your self and leave your young child with out a mother like that! And that kid is so young to not understand it at all. that is so sad

I am so very sorry for your loss, I definalty agree it has to do with how you feel about yourself, and sometimes even the most beautiful people fall in to deep depression, and no matter how hard you try there is nothing you can do for them.

Never thought about it and never will... i think!
For me it's a stupid way to end up your life!
Not everything in life is bad, always look for something that makes you happy!

My apologies on your loss...yes depression hurts. It gets to the point that one can not cope any longer so that is what we dont understand the why of it. We see all that a person has to live for and can not understand why they want to end it. You will never get the answer, just offer as much love and support for her son that you al possibly can.

most of all i feel sorry for the her son!
i don't know anybody with depresions so i possible
can not say this: couldn't she get any help, instead of
killing herself? she has a son who really needs his mother!
i hope her son has his father to take care of him!
i hope you can give it a place and go on with your life!
and please if you ever feel so bad as her find help(because you said you have had depresions too, they can come back or not?)

Wow, that is terrible:( I feel so bad for her son especially. He is the one who will live with it for the rest of his life. I have a friend whose sister in law murdered her boyfriend then killed herself and they had two little boys who were 2 and 4 years old. Her parents are raising the boys because the dad's parents don't want anything to do with them. That is just sad....

I'm very sorry -- your ex-wife must be devastated and her son must be scared and confused - I have dealth with suidcial thoughts on and off throughout my life, it's horrible and frightening -- I wouldn't venture to say that I know what or why she made the choices that she did -- she must have been a great deal of emotional turmoil. My sympathies to her family and friends -

That's real sad. Considering she has a six year old child. She should have thought about her child first. I understand she was depressed, but their were other ways she could have dealt with it. Now her son has to grow up with out a mother.

Depression is as deadly as cancer if not taken care of correctly. Question why didnt anyone make sure she was getting help? If she was so down people close should have seen a difference. I know its nobodys fault but i do know when u are close to somebody you can tell if they are close to that. I myself have tried to kill myself years ago and been suffering depression for many years. Now under control for a long time with help. I hate when people say just pull yourself together cause with chemical depression you cannot unless you recieve help. If yo dont get help most people look to die.

i can't imagine she gave more importance on her physical well-being than the life and future of her 6-yr-old son. it's our own selves who can only truly help us overcome depression.

I feel really bad for her son. I think it is very selfish to kill yourself. I know that they are really depressed, but to do something like that, is just thinking about yourself and no one else.

sad to hear that the only solution they found is soucide. It is not the solution for it will only bring more problem to the loveones you will be leaving behind. if you are feeling depresion you need to talk to your friend or councilor talking is always a good idea if you feel sad or lonely.
