My friend joined mylot few days back & now left saying the following, "I have observed this that some people on mylot always get a big number of responses to almost each of their posts & however their posts be. But there are many people who get really less number of responses or even zero that too when their posts are really good." What do you think? Is this truth or her misunderstanding? What are the reasons due to which some people on mylot really get a lot of responses to most of their posts?

Its surely a question thatmost newcomers on mylot ask but there's nothing special about those people who get more replies. Its just that most of them have been here on mylot for a long time and so they have many friends. If you check, there is a section in your profile's discussion column that lists discussions started by your friends. When you have large number of friends and if they check this column out, they'll be replying to their friend's discussions. Though it also depends on what topic you are posting but i suggest that more and quality friends help getting repplies on posts.

I've noticed this too. I'm not sure why it is, maybe it's because they have lots of friends on mylot who respond to their posts??? As for me some of my topics get no responses, some get ok responses, & one I can think of got 170+ responses! the 170+ was a topic on iraq, so there was a lot for people to say/ complain about. LOL

yeah i have noticed this as well. personally, some of the comments started are corny, but it seems the cornier the better, and anything with some real meaning is just not that popular. i have attmepted to start a 'bubblehead' comment myself, but it usually ends up on a deeper meaning......lol. maybe im just boring.....lol. thats ok, my husband likes it...smile

I have the same problem,i think that i have started some good discussions but they only get 3 or 4 responses.Maybe it´s because the number of friends i don´t know.

I have noticed this as well. I am not sure why either. Some of the smaller discussions have been presented very well on here.

If she only stayed around for a few days she will only have seen the trend for that week, remember a lot of peopel are still on holdiay so normal posting is hardly happening at the moment, it will all change over the next few weeks and be a completely different set of trends

The reason for this are their writing is creative, they post those topics that are mostly popular in all age groups, give attractive topic heading which catches everyone's eyes, they have many friends or fans on mylot who respond to most of their posts.

I too have noticed this. The same topic posted by me get only 3 or 4 responses but another who copies it gets 50 responses.I can see some silly questions get huge responses.I am totally confused about how they get such responses.

well, they hit the mark with their discussions. I mean look, right now the big thing is Iraq and saddam, they use a good title and people read. Nothing more than that. Just try to get a good topic going, something which people might have different oppinions on. Hope i helped because i am trying as well.

I don´t think it depends that much on friends or referrals if some people get a lot of answers. It depends how many people are here at the time the post arrives. I´ve noticed I hardly get any answers when I post a discussion during day time, because I live in Europe and most people here are from the US so they are 5 hours behind. I also agree with your friends because "still" or "once again" there are a lot of rubbish discussions and answering them doesn´t need much thinking.

When you start a discussion try to keep it going and you will get responses because it jumps to the front page.Make friends and some will help you out by responding to your discussions then some wont.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. It seems like my posting discussions is a useless thing.

I agree with Melizzy. The title of a post needs to be challenging to draw attention. A lot of people here only read the title and don't read the topic itself. That's already been proven by Misskatonic?? I think that's the name.

i think one important reason for this is that they put attractive heading.

I don't thing it so much a matter of ruling as a matter of just learning the ropes. I don't get a lot of discussion response yet either. It's probably partially because I'm not picking interesting enough topics. Also I'm only begginning to understand how the tags work which I think might help.I have picked up a couple of nice friends who seem to support what I do put up which is nice. I've noticed that some topics take longer to get started than others........ I don't think your friend gave it enough time.

I will tell you what I think. Firstly, I think that some people have built up a good base of friends on here who know that they post good discussions and who will endeavour to try to reply to their friends' posts. This is one reason why some people get so many responses. Other times it is just good luck, or someone posting a controversial subject or news story that everyone feels compelled to respond to. I myself have witnessed some people on here who are just open and warm and friendly and by their very nature no doubt draw people to their discussions. Check out Oldbuddy or some others with over a thousand posts on Mylot. They are wonderful people to talk to! ^_^ Anyway, I think that you can earn more easily from repsonding than starting new topics, in any case, so I don't worry about who 'rules' Mylot or not. I just keep on posting! *laugh*

It's probably a combination of factors. 1. Timing (How many people happen to see the post appear) 2. Popularity (How many friends the poster has. It takes a few people to break the ice on the post. After 5 or so responses the question has a greater potential of taking off). 3. Luck (How interested people are in the topic).

Well I believe in working what others are getting is not my concern. I work and without getting biased keep working and you will be rewarded.

It all depends on one's interest in a particular discussion. I don't think anyone thinks otherwise.

Hello how are you Shedii? I think that some people get more of a response to there questions because thy are well known on mylot and so when people see that this is a person that thy have responded to before then thy are more likely to answer another one of there questions.

Yeah, most of them have a lot of mylot friends. If you get a bunch of friends your gonna get a lot of responses, or if you create a really interesting topic that everyone is interested in posting, or it gets on the big discussions today list thats on the discussion home, and someone sees it, even though they weren't looking for that topic, they mgiht have somethign to say about it, and then it will jumo ther posts up a lot. SO its mostly because they have a lot of friends.
