Snow New Years 2006 - Last year we had snow by the first of January...this year it's 63 degrees.. Look what Global Warming is doing to the world.

We hear about Global Warming all the time. I suspect not too many people concern themselves with it...That's probably half the problem..lol I live in Massachusetts, a New England state in the USA. The usual weather for this area is Hot in the summer, Cool in the spring, Snow and cold in the winter and in the Fall warm and cool days with cooler evenings. Well here it is Jan 5th. We have not had more than 1/2 an inch of snow so far this winter. Today it is 63 degrees, where it should be in the 30's. This weekend they are predicting 66 degrees on Saturday...should I get ready for a visit to the beach or what. This is so crazy, what are we going to do? Do you do anything to help? This is a picture of my back yard last year on New Years Day....Snow...this year...Hmmm the cherry blossoms are blooming in Wa.DC..ugggghh

Marie, I like your back yard, very nice... I am in Chicago. Chicago has hot summer and very cold winter and wind is always making it worst(Windy City). Yesterday and today it was 55 degres. On one hand it makes me happy (saving on heat), but on the other hand...is worst coming?

It is very warm here in Delaware right now for January. It is in the 70 degree range which is more like spring though winter just started here. We usually have flurries and much colder weather here right now but it is warm and people are wearing shorts and tshirts.

NO KIDDING!!! I live in Wisconsin and there isn't any snow on the ground and it is January!! This is really strange to say the least. I don't think there is anything we can do except live each day, one at a time. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. Obviously something is wrong somewhere. Whether it is global warming causing it or not is another thing.

Maybe it is Global Warming, we weren't around for the first global warming of course. The thing is is that if we do survive it, which I don't think is the case, will we see another ice age?

I've noticed the seasons changing more and more as the years pass...it's pretty scary actually! I live in Ontario, Canada and normally this time of year we are experiencing road closures from the blizzards and heaps of snow....not this year! I don't think we have had snow last for more than a day and we've only seen traces of snow once or twice...this past Christmas was the first I can remember in my 21 years of living. As for the weather we are having right this minute, it's raining out and reminds me a lot of spring showers. As for what can be done about this situation, I really have no idea other than walking more than driving and using energy efficent appliances.

I live in Australia in New South Wales in the western part of the state i have lived here for 25yrs and over the time the climate has changed so much our winters are not cold any more we are lucky yo even get a frost in winter where before we would have weeks of heavy frost still on the grass by lunch time not only a few days did we even pull on a jumper and the summer season we were sure to get a big storm every few days well we have had only minimal rain in the past few years it`s definately become warmer and dryer

I think Global Warming is affecting all of us. I used to live in Louisiana last year till the hurricanes forced me to move. I remember hearing on a news report that they thought Global Warming had something to do with the size and strength of these monster storms. Well, I moved to Albuquerque five months ago. It has already flooded here which doesn't happen very often and I got fifteen inches of snow last week and I'm expecting another four inches today. My neighbors said the last time they saw this much snow was in 1971. Weather certainly has been acting crazier with each passing year.

The snow here hasn't even started to really melt yet. I think it will take Denver some time to really dig out because they really had it bad. They did some sort of a survey here and 95% of the residents don't even own a snow shovel. I had to use a plastic dust pan to make a path to my car!

What can you do but enjoy it while it lasts? I am not a total believer in the causes of global warming but I have cut my driving down a lot. I don't know what else to do. But I still think that this warming period could be a natural occurance and just part of a cycle. Here in Michigan, we haven't had any real snow and temps in the mid 40s to mid 50s. Wow, I will take 66 degrees any time of the year. Who knows, you might be cutting grass by the end of the month...Last time I was in Massachusetts, there was a foot of snow or more..in 1999. Like your state a lot...rustic and woodsy.

I agree, I don't think it's all due to global warming. That's the part that scares me most. I think weather patterns are just changing..but dramatically. Mother Nature is not going to like this...lol "Rustic and Woodsy" That's what I like about it too.

Here in PA, we had a December with zero snow accumulation, and even now, in the first week of January, the temperature is in the 50s. Personally, I love it. I hope it stays this way until March.

Global Warming is stll a debated issue with all the so called experts. The historical records don't show that clearlt. While I do think that Global Warming is a real treat to the enviornment over all, there really seems to be distorted evidence presented. Governments and companies ignore it's even possible and a large part of the world just don't seem interested. Weather patterns in my area along Gulf coast are a repeat from 20's and 30's it seems. There are just more people there now. That seems to be true in other areas as well.

i dont know what everybody else's take on the whole global warming issue is but all i know is that everytime i watch the movie ' The day after tomorrow' it really hits me hard..i mean im practically sitting and waiting for the second ice age to hit me. all of us are, either knowingly or unknowingly..and unless we do something about it, its going to happen sooner than we can imagine.

Yea that has been the topic of discussion around here, i'm from NC and usually by now its pretty cold, not as cold as in Ma but still you need a heavy jacket. Well its been in the 60s and 70s here. Its kind of scary to think, are we just doing away with winter? And also you have to think, how is this affecting natural and animals who are use to the winter months to do hibernating and stuff like that. I guess we'll see the effects of this years from now.

I live in England where we are used to very traditional seasons- warm summers snow in winter etc. The weather recently has gone crazy. Our last summer was the hottest ever on record by far. Were only just starting to experience winter when its meant to be the beginning of spring. We've also been getting really random storms- very strong so its kinda scary. Its sad to say but I don't think this is a process we can reverse, most people just aren't bothered and without huge countries like China on board it makes small efforts seem pointless. Thanks for an intelligent discussion which seems to be becoming increasingly rare on here :)

No I don't think we can do too much to reverse it, but we could possible stop making it worse. I'm glad you enjoyed my discussion,. I know what you mean there is alot of junk discussions. Thanks for responding.

Fortunately, it isn't JUST global warming causing the warmer weather. El Nino season is around this year, so that's causing a big difference in the weather both United States and Canada seems to be getting. I live in Southern Ontario and we've usually got horrifically cold weather this time of year, but do to the global warming and El Nino, we're getting more rain than we are snow, which ruins a lot as far as crops go. Fruits and vegetables. It's terrible, really. This time next year with Global Warming, we'll all be roasting chestnuts on an open fire for Christmas. ;) And when I say 'open fire'. I'm talking about a nice big bon fire in toasty weather!

I live in Toronto. We haven't had snow yet this year. Normally we've had at least one decent-sized blizzard by now. It's freaking me right out. The bugs next summer are going to be murder.

Global Warming is a phenomenon which is affecting th whole world from north to south and from east to west. This process could be slowed down if we use less of personel convence and if we could switch to public transport. This is the 1 way but there also other things to take care of. I am an Indian living in Delhi and I can observe all these things. Last year I used to sit at home in front of a room heater to make my body warms but this year I am roaming around the city. I can feel vold even this year but not so cold as last year. We cant do anything to decrease this temperature but we could do many things to stop this inncreasing temperature each year.
