There's been some talk about this recently.. Some feel the United States may be headed towards bringing back the draft..This could include all men and women between the ages of 18-35 If you fit into this catorgory or have loved ones that do..What would you do? Would you go or look for a way out?Would you protest such a move by this country?Do you even feel something like this could possibly happen in the near future?I don't feel it will happen but if it should.. I feel I would not go and I am sure my partner would feel the same.. I don't know what we would do to get out of it..But I would fight it every step of the way.. People should not be forced to fight in a war..Especially one they may not believe in... I would like to hear how others feel on this issues

I don't think that's fair at all. I certainly wouldn't want to be involved in any war. Not everyone is cut out for it and some people would be left traumatized for life.

First of all I pray there's no draft. But we've got quite the mess there in Iraq, and no forseeable way out, not to mention people forget we're fighting another war in neighboring Afghanistan... What would we do if Iraq escalates, or if there should be another military threat to the U.S? What then? Politicians on both side of the aisle have suggested a draft. And less face it, recruitments at record lows.

I don't think it will happen. Shoot, the Air Force has been downsizing for at least the past 3 or 4 years. If we are so short of people in the army, marines, and navy, why don't they take the people in the Air Force, and put them in these services first?

This is just some rumor. They are not reinstating the draft. Besides, how could it include women, when women aren't registered for the draft? In fact, do they still make men register at 18? Don't lose any sleep over this.

In case I were drafted then I would have no choice but to do what the Government wants, but I would be extremely outraged. Why should I sacrifice at the minimum years of life, and run the risk of losing my life for the whim and carpice of this person in the highest office in US? Plus this person had denied that he'll reinstate draft while he was doing Presidential debate with Kerry back in 2004. Going back on his words is very very undesirable for someone who holds Presidency. I wonder, why we've re-elected him and have not impeached him.

Well I think you might be right. My son just turned 18, and received a card in the mail to sign up with selective services, and if he did'nt he would not get help with college money and or could go to prison. When we went to the web site to register him online it said "is this for a draft?" "we don't know".So I thinking yes there could be a draft.

Well, now that the Democrats have regained the House and Senate I doubt that will happen. The best indicator of a draft would be the full scale activation of the National Guard and Reserve units. The military does not need foot soldiers or conscripts. They need highly trained urban warriors and they can not get that from the draft. Do not put this on your stress radar screen.

Actually, it was a democrat that introduced the idea, but it was really just a petty attack at the war on Iraq, it isn't expected to gain momentum AT ALL.

Actually the Democrat who proposed bringing back the draft said that if it was reinstated the Republicans would not be as eager to fight because they wouldn't want their children to be drafted. He must be a young Democrat or he would remember that politicians children rarely went into the military even with the draft because of "exemptions" and the ones who did go "volunteered" because then they could choose which branch of service they went into and which jobs. Very few politicians "kids" fought - most of our politicians who actually saw combat did NOT come from political families - they got into politics later.

Number one thing to remember we all owe our freedom to this country and our government so if called we should all go willingly and faithfully to serve as called. I think those who are unwilling to help secure our freedoms shouldnt enjoy them. No one is forced to fight conscientious objectors are given the opportunity to serve in other ways and if your only reason for not wanting to serve is fear then you need to know that all face danger with fear but the good ones face it anyway. We dont choose war it chooses us. Do you not think we should defend ourselves? I think those who are unpatriotic need not live here.

I don't think it will happen. We still have quite a few men/women in the services who haven't gone over which I think is unfair that some haven't gone and some have gone 3 times. My husband has served his time in Iraq. His enlistment was up in December and the word is they are going back soon. So he was done because it was to hard on the kids the first time. I would most definatly fight it. Trust me, I'm not cut out for war. I would do a lot for my country but if I had wanted to fight or to know how, I would have joined the military.

We all have our personal lives and have personal responsibilites to ourselves and to our families. At the same time we are also citizens of our country and that we have our national and civic responsibilities as well. In a democratic society, it is the rule of the majority. We can air our sentiments and ventilate the issues but if the decision of the majority is to reinstate the draft we can not refuse using our personal concerns as arguments. Going to war is always a horrible thing and nobody likes it. It should be avoided at all cost. But if it becomes inevitable then we must be ready to defend our country for the sake of our families and those who will come after us.

if the person wants to fight in a war they should, otherwise they dont have to fight in a war. The draft is a dumb idea

It could happen. After all, crazier things which we said were impossible have hppened. I'd resist, yep. Even to the point of becoming a criminal in their eyes..if there was no other way. The Draft is a bad idea. And some people, more recently in fact..are calling for it to be reinstated. Not only politicians either, but newspaper and online reporters. It's crazy. People should be allowed to choose. Not all people believe in violence, for others it goes against their religion..and some of us have serious doubts regarding the morality of this war. People should have free choice.

know I would be pissed off if they ever brought the draft back. It seems to me there is enough willing people to joing the army nave etc that I dont think they need to force young americans to join. That would only happen if we were in serious trouble of course which oblessly where not. Thank god I wont have to worry about going into the draft since I have severe flat feet.
