Who will be the Democrat and Republican candidates for the next election?

Who do you want to be the candidates, why, and who would you vote for? My preference would be for John McCain to run as a Republican and Barack Obama to run as a Democrat, but due to Obama's newness in politics, it might be longer before he makes it as a candidate. McCain, of course, has been around forever. Both seem to be more moderate, and I think both Republicans and Democrats are sick of extremism after the last two presidential battles.

Unfortunately, the people who will be chosen to run will be long-time politicians. I am betting there are a lot of non-politicians who could do a far better job than most politicians I've seen. It would also help if people besides the rich could afford to run. Our system is supposedly an open democracy, but actually our voting pool is very shallow any more and limited to rich politicians who may or may not be competent to handle the problems of the world today. Just look at the guy we've got in there now!

Great response. you are very right. there are a select few powerful, rich, well-connected people who actually have a shot at becoming the president of the united states. The voting pool is very shallow--and the truth is, rarely do we get the right man for the job. Just look at the current situation.

Well I am going to wait and see who actually wants to step into the ring first. But some speculations are I would not vote for Hilary because who the hey needs another Clinton in office I don't care if she is female. John McCain, Maybe depends on what he says or does, Obama, no he is too radical and off the wall. I don't vote according to party but how I read their character not by just what they say but their whole demeanor.

Rush Lumbagh for President - photo of Rush Lumbagh, popular radio and TV talk host.
I think you forgot a very important possible candidate: Rush Limbaugh - too, too, conservative? If I had my druthers as a candidate....I'd sit this one out and build character and carisma for the next four years. But there is one thing for certain I wouldn't want to follow in Bush's shoes for love nor money.

I definitely want the Democrats to run Hilary Clinton. It's time for a woman and I want it to happen. As for Obama, I agree he lacks the experience and is very young. His time will come but it's just not now. As for the Republicans I hope they run somebody really awful (shouldn't be too hard, they've done it twice in the last eight yrs.) so things will be easier for Hilary. I like John McCain but I for some reason see him as a Third Party candidate. The Republicans have basically screwed him over many times and I don't see that changing. Whoever gets the nominations, I think we can look forward to some exciting party conventions and a very interesting and hard fought election.

Not sure yet who I will vote for, it's still a little early, but I will say that I am leaning toward someone who is totally different from what we have now. Someone who doesn't have much baggage and who is calm and somewhat normal. Is there such a politician? Anyway, I am anxious to have someone fresh in office!

I guess McCain is always on the short list of possible republican presidential candidates. he's a perrenial favorite. maybe he will get the nod this year, but who knows. it will be very interesting to see who the repubs go with this year, especially after the tumultuous reign of their current leader. I think barak and hilary both have a shot, although both would have tough competition from the popular joe biden. It will be one of the most interesting presidential races in history this year.

I don't really know who I want to run for the next election. I'll wait and see from the candidates that will be running and vote for the person that I think is fit to be in the office.

I like McCain; he's got the legislative experience and knows how to get things done in Congress, and he's been in combat so he knows that sending troops abroad is not something to be taken lightly. I still don't think Pres. Bush understands that. I agree with you that Obama is too inexperienced--not that he couldn't be a good pres. now, but he just doesn't have the resume to convince people that he's ready. Part of one term in the Senate doesn't convince me, either. A great rising star for the future though, we'll have to see how he develops.

Hillary already has experience in the white house. I think it would be neat to witness the first female prez. To top it off I think Hillary is really smart. It wouldn't be too hard to do a better job than what we have now.

I'd like to see Tom Tancredo in there, though I don't think he'd make enough headway. It would be good to keep the illegal immigration problem debate going.

As of now, No Comments. Keeping my fingers crossed. Definitely expect to see a lot of changes once someone comes to power. Apreciate your way of thinking too.
