a good story to start 2007

THIS IS REALLY POWERFUL AND MAKES ONE THINK..A FEW YEARS AGO A GROUP OF SALESMEN WENT TO A REGIONAL SALES CONVENTION IN CHICAGO. THEY HAD ASSURED THEIR WIVES THEY WOULD BE HOME IN PLENTY OF TIME FOR FRIDAY NIGHT'S DINNER. IN THEIR RUSH WITH TICKETS AND BRIEFCASES, ONE OF THESE SALESMEN INADVERTENTLY KICKED OVER A TABLE HOLDING A DISPLAY OF APPLES. APPLES FLEW EVERYWHERE.WITHOUT STOPPING OR LOOKING BACK THEY ALL MANAGED TO REACH THE PLANE IN TIME FOR THEIR NEARLY MISSED BOARDING. ALL BUT ONE!!!! HE PAUSED, TOOK A DEEP BREATH, GOT IN TOUCH WITH HIS FEELINGS, AND EXPERIENCED A TWINGE OF COMPASSION FOR THE GIRL WHOSE APPLE STAND HAD BEEN OVERTURNED. HE TOLD BUDDIES TO GO ON WITHOUT HIM, WAVED GOODBYE, TOLD ONE OF THEM TO CALL HIS WIFE WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THEIR HOME DESTINATION AND EXPLAIN HIS TAKING A LATER FLIGHT..THEN HE RETURNED TO THE TERMINAL WHERE THE APPLES WERE ALL OVER THE TERMINAL FLOOR. HE WAS GLAD HE DID. THE 16 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS TOTALLY BLIND.. SHE WAS SOFTLY CRYING, TEARS RUNNING DOWN HER CHEEKS IN FRUSTRATION AND AT THE SAME TIME HELPLESSLY GROPING FOR HER SPILLED PRODUCE AS THE CROWD SWIRLED ABOUT HER NO ONE STOPPING AND NO ONE TO CARE FOR HER PLIGHT. THE SALESMEN KNELT ON THE FLOOR WITH HER, GATHERED UP THE APPLES, PUT THEM BACK ON THE DISPLAY AND HELPED ORGANIZE HER DISPLAY.. AS HE DID THIS HE NOTICED MANY OF THEM HAD BECOME BATTERED AND BRUISED; THESE HE SET ASIDE IN ANOTHER BASKET. WHEN HE HAD FINISHED, HE PULLED HIS WALLET OUT AND SAID TO THE GIRL "HERE PLEASE TAKE THIS $40 FOR THE DAMAGE WE DID. ARE YOU OKAY?" SHE NODDED THROUGH HER TEARS. HE CONTINUED ON WITH "I HOPE WE DIDN'T SPOIL YOUR DAY TOO BADILY." AS THE SALESMEN STARTED TO WALK AWAY, THE BEWILDERED BLIND GIRL CALLED OUT TO HIM, "MISTER.." hE PAUSED AND TURNED TO LOOK INTO THOSE BLIND EYES, SHE CONTINUED WITH " ARE YOU JESUS?" HE STOPPED IN MID STRIDE AND HE WONDERED. THEN HE SLOWLY MADE HIS WAY TO CATCH THE LATER FLIGHT WITH THAT QUESTION BURNING AND BOUNCING ABOUT HIS SOUL. "ARE YOU JESUS?" DO PEOPLE MISTAKE YOU FOR JESUS? THAT'S OUR DESTINY, IS IT NOT? TO BE SO MUCH LIKE JESUS THAT PEOPLE CAN NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE AS WE LIVE AND INTERACT WITH A WORLD THAT IS BLIND TO HIS LOVE,LIFE AND GRACE. IF WE CLAIM TO KNOW HIM WE SHOULD LIVE, WALK AND ACT AS HE WOULD. KNOWING HIM IS MORE THAN QUOTING SCRIPTURE AND GOING TO CHURCH. IT'S ACTUALLY LIVING THE WORD AS LIFE UNFOLDS DAY TO DAY. (FROM EXPERIENCE I KNOW IT IS DAY TO DAY BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE EASIEST THING TO DO, BUT THINGS IN LIFE THAT ARE WORTH ANYTHING REQUIRE EFFORT AND COMMITMENT.) YOU ARE THE APPLE OF HIS EYE, EVEN THOUGH WE TOO HAVE BEEN BRUISED BY A FALL. HE STOPPED WHAT HE WAS DOING AND PICKED YOU AND ME UP ON A HILL CALLED CALVARY AND PAID IN FULL FOR OUR DAMAGED FRUIT.. that was so cute and it reminds us what we forget in life.

Thank you for a lovely story. I do not believe in religion, but feel that everyone has the propensity for good and bad within us. It is important that we keep the good closer to our heart, and should treat all with consideration, respect and kindness, just as the man in your story did. All the best, and be good!

thanks for sharing this touching story to remind us about Jesus and how He had paid for our sins. The story also lets us know that every one of us can be a blessing to other people as long we take time to help others even in the smallest ways. Being busy is not a valid reason why we dont have time to even stop and thank the Lord for the blessings that we receive each day.

This is such a very inspiring story. Anyway what I am trying to say is that our daily lives should reflect the character of Jesus. Like this salesman who makes a lot of difference that day in this blind girls life, we too should in our daily lives live to make a difference in someone's life. Nomatter how insignificant what we think we do, it might make a big difference and blessing in someone else's life.

that is certainly a heart-wrenching story. it makes us think of how we have lived our lives. have we done anything good for anyone? i believe that we are all bad fruits and we have been paid for. and because we have been paid for we should try and do good for others too.

it was for me. it makes you think how inconciderate people can be towards others that have a handicap or might need help. i also believe we are all bad fruits that have been paid for and should do what we can for others. thank you for responding...

Oh dear Thats a wonderful story with lot of meaning for love. Even in our religion we take love as eequal to god. Here is a translation of some verse in our religion "No body knows Love is god If they know that love is god then god also look like love for them" LOVE IS MY RELIGION--

That is a really nice story and does give one reason to pause and think about what we could do for other's that we are not in life . What we have passed by when we could have taken the little bit of extra time to stop and help someone who needed the help .

What a beautiful story with a powerful message. Thank you posting this, I think we all need to be reminded of how many people around us need our help in ways we have no idea until we actually talk to them and see their "handicap". We all have handicaps, and not always in the sense of being disabled, but also in the sense of being crippled in our walk with the Lord. Again thank you for the beautiful story.

Truly a touching story, this is quite ironic as it talks about the apple cart being overturned. You know the saying one bad apple in the bunch- well of the businessmen there was only one good apple in their bunch!
