Chantix (new drug to quit smoking) - have you tried it?

I'm taking a new FDA-approved treatment to quit smoking - Chantix and I officially quit last night around 10:30 PM. I am having the worst withdrawals of my life (last time it wasn't so hard!). Has anyone else taken this drug and had success with it? I'm in phase 3 of this study (the first two were double-blind, I quit the first session but they made me smoke!) and now I'm finding it quite hard to quit. I'd chew gum but I had a crown (temporary) put in yesterday and the dentist doesn't want me to chew gum. I need some support please!

Well done for trying to quit in the first place! How are you getting on with it as I saw this was posted 4 weeks ago! I haven't heard of Chantix so it's probably something you can only get in your country maybe? Good luck with it anyway!

CONGRATS TO YOU!! I am so glad to hear it's working for you. I want to try it but I don't have insurance and I heard it's pretty expensive. I really want to try this stuff.. It's SOO hard to quit. Keep up the good work!! :)

I've been around smokers twice now (at shows I've done) and had NO temptation to start up again (it's as if I never smoked!). Now if I could get the smell of friend chicken out of my coat (or go somewhere warm enough til it warms up here) I'd be set!

Well done to you it will be interesting to see if it comes to the UK. I hope it works out for you while you're on holiday but don't be disheartened if it doesn't don't give up giving up!

I have been on this Chantix for a week now and frankly, I can't tell any difference. When could you start telling it's working?

It takes at least a week for it to get into your system...then it gets your cravings to taper down to nothing. You also need to come up with alternative behaviors when you have a craving (ie, chew gum, drink water, work out, deep breathing). Give it a chance and good luck!

Heiferhead, is it working for you yet? I've finally kicked the habit--I have had NO cravings (problems with my crown but I had no urge to smoke!) and I feel like a huge weight is off my back! I'm loving it!
