Anybody got any tips on studying. I want to here from people who have done very well at school and think they have the tips that will give 'the edge'. Should I study deep into the night? What time is best to study? Is eating whikst studying a good thing to do?

nope , , eating while studying ain't good , , you will be having a hard time retaining what you have reviewed, , because the body is concentrated more on digesting what you are eating rather than memory retention , , it's ok also that you munch apples before you review , , studying early in the morning rather than night is much much better too? , , you know why? , , there are lots of thing that you have in mind at night, , and you will be having a hard time concentrating , , as compared when you review in the morning , , your body is fully rested, , and so is your mind , , :) hope i have helped

When I was a student, I dedicated 2 hours a day to study time. Even if I had no homework, I would spend the 2 hours reading what we had done earlier in the day. I stuck to this routine, and my marks were fantastic. I achieved a 99.9% average in my grade 11 chemistry class. And I did take breaks. Because I had spent 10 hours during the week on my studies, I had the weekends free to have fun. Also, another tip for successful studying is attendance. Try to have the best attendance record you can, because you would be suprised how much you retain when you attend regularily, and study on a schedule.

Everyone is different in my opinion about when to study, probably during the time of day when you feel most energized. I think eating while studying is a distraction. When studying stay away from phones, TV's, radios as they may be a distraction as well. When you are relaxed, it is more conducive to retaining information. When you are studying for an exam that requires detailed explanations it is best to study with a partner so that what was talked about in class you will remember better what you discussed with your study partner through association. Also, it's not a good idea to cram at the last minute or the night before a test/exam unless the person is a genius because if you go over the material every single night up until the night before the test on a regular basis your memory retention will stay with you. Either you know the material or you don't, so it's best to study this way and get a good night's sleep of 6 to 8 hours the night before the test so you'll be well rested and not forget what you learned by being too tired. I hope this helps. Good luck

My study habits is studying in my favorite and most comfortable room in our house. I used to refresh myself by taking a bath first, before I start studying. Try it out it's effective.

I would say : Study just a couple of hour before your exams.
That's what I did and it worked for me.
This way, you always have fresh information in your mind.

For me what I do is to read the subject prior to the teacher teaching it. Next is to pay attention in class when the teacher teaches. Once the lesson is over and when I reached home after a shower and meal, I'll re-read the subject. Once my brain absorbs the subject I don't have any issue during exam and I don't need to burn midnight oil when exam approaches. However, disciplined is a necessity.

So, when was it that you eat? After studying a lot; or after studying not much? Also, how do you find your class? Is it easy to concentrate? Or do you get distracted a lot. I get distracted some times; but i'm trying to filter that out soon! Good luck with your studies anyway!

No, eating while studying is not a good thing to do, you won't be able to concentrate on your studies while eating.
Studying in night is Ok if you are studying for 1-2 hr, more than that, you may feel sleepy and again loose concentration.
Make a time-table of your studies and stick to it.
Try to study in the early morning, Your mind would be fresh at that time, It would help you understand faster and if you are learning something, you'll also find it easy to learn in the early morning.
If you are having problem understanding some topic, go to the core of the topic, don't cram bookish language, try to understand the concept.
Help your friends in studying and make them understand topic you know, it would help you in revising the concept.

it actually depends on the study habit of a person or the body clock of a person. in my case,my mind is more awake during the night so if i have to study for an exam or make a project at school, i finish it during the night. also, i have the habit of listening to music while studying. it gives me more energy and i dont get bored even if i dont like the subject that im studying for. Eating while studying is also nice to give you the much-needed energy but maybe not too full, cause you might get sleepy and you wont be able to finish your studying then. hope this helped..

Eating, watching tv, listening to music anything that is not part of your studies should not be a factor when you study. It is a proven fact that these things distract for learning.
You need a quite place to study, no distractions. Your mind will absorb more. Also if you have a recorder, use it!
Put in it the things you need to know and listen as you go to sleep. During the REM stage of sleep is when your mind absorbs more. It remembers what it hears.
Have you ever heard a song for the first time but know the words. It is probably because you heard it in your sleep. Over studying is not good for you, they say not to "cram". But it is up to the individual. You may have to try cramming and see if that works for you.
you also do better if you get enough sleep and eat before studying. This way you can focus better.

try making flash cards. if you don't want to make paper flash cards, try a site like The Amazing Flash Card Machine (www.flashcardmachine.com). This helps me a lot.
I also always eat while I'm studying. I've heard trail mix, etc can help as "brain food" - our elementary school used to always give us stuff to eat during standardized tests. Not so much in high schoo, we'd probably eat them out of house and home. I don't know how many scientific studies they've done on this, but it's a nice theory. I've heard that chewing gum can also improve concentration.
Studying after your usual bedtime probably won't help you much; by that time you're just thinking about sleep, and the sleep will probably do you more good than the studying will.

Based on my experience, here are my personal strategies(some of which i didnt really apply though, due to lack of time, willpower or maybe a combination of both)
1)Concentrate in classes, force yourself to it
2)Subconcious mind, not concious mind works better
3)Read through notes, books before class.(This is a must, it helps alot in point number 1).
4)Practice
5)Passion
6)Discuss! with friends/classmates/teachers/whoever
7)Ask ask and ask questions, regarding your subjects of course
8)Do past years papers.
9)Do your own notes. (Just discover this recently)
10)Read and read and read and read and read like there is no tomorrow.
Hope it helps!^_ ^

How can you force yourself to concentrate? Do you give yourself an incentive; such as a food or treat? I find it hard to concentrate; I mostly focus on the others around me. Got any tips?

Hmmm studying about the topics beforehand will help you concentrate better in class. So, force yourself to study the materials before it is being taught in class. ^_^

i was a very lazy student :D so i always have to burn the midnight oil prior to my major examinations and i'm quite lucky that i can get through pretty well...i find that studying in the middle of the night will be the best...while listening to some soft and soothing music. eating is not recommended as it could make you feel sleepy..

I found early morning as best time to study as my mind was always clear that other time of the day. On other timies I preferred late night taking a couple of coffees to stay awake but it is not healthy to do that.
