From where I'm from, it is. You have to be a member of or know a member of a golfing club here to play. Or you have to be connected to some top honcho of some company or be one yourself to do so. You have to have your own equipment too, which costs an arm and a leg over here. It is viewed as an elitist game here in the Philippines, so, my answer is yes. :)

Quite true. Or if you are really so keen in playing golf, you might want to get somebody to fund you. But then again, I think more people who come from middle class families are now playing golf in the Philippines. Something must be good in playing golf :)

Absolutely not. Anyone can get into golf very cheaply. Most courses have clubs you can rent to find out if you like it or not. Of course, once your hooked like some of us, you will spend more to get better equipment or the latest gadget, but you don't have to.
Its a fun game. try it.

In many countries golf is rather expensive. Japan is one of them. Typically in Japan if one wants to play on a week-end you would not see much change from $500. This is just green fees. Then there are other costs. This is why many Japanese golfers head off to Hawaii, Guam, Philippines, Thailand etc.
The general rule of thumb is that whereever land in expensive or there is a lot of pressure on land, particularly urban land, golf is expensive.
In the US, New Zealand, Australia and UK I have found golf to be as expensive as you want to make it. (based on the equipment you buy)But generally golf is affordable for most people. You are right.

Cool comment. Is'nt retired a form of wealth? You need a lot of strength to be retired. And is strength not wealth? Cheers and go for that hole in one!!
