Would you prefer to find a job and work on a routine schedule which will give you a steady income or would you rather come up with a business of your own with unstable income and uncertain success? The good thing with working as an employee is that you don't have to worry too much and just do what has to be done while having your own business sounds really good it's going to take a lot of your dedication to make it a successful one.. Which one is better? Being an employee or starting up your own business?

Well, I've done both... Right now, I'm an employee again. I was in a book business and was doing pretty well, but the business went under, so now I'm back to beine an employee. It does have it's benefits; the biggest being a steady paycheck. But I miss having my own business. I've been contemplating seriously starting a new business but I'm not sure if I'm ready to take that risk yet.

Being an employee or starting up your business, which one is better? Well... I´ve read all the replies in this tophic, and they all have good points, depends on their personalities, talents, interrests.
So, to give my opinion, i would suggest it to a ´couple´, if one (hubby or wife) tends to operate their own business, then the other would be better (and safer?:) if he/she is an employee...

Hmm.. yeah I think that's a good idea.. one can take the riskier path and you have the other one for back up just in case! haha

Thank you for your comment... To operate our own business it´s very challenging and -also- very often we have to face somekind of uncertainity... Specialy when the business is still new... So, for the safety, and -in order to- spend more time with your hubby/wife/bf/gf... Working on certain amount of time and money, is not that bad too... :-)
I have this saying:
Almost not everyone can be a ´boss´. But i do hope and believe that everyone can -somehow- have a nice ´boss´...

think about this, who are the richest and wealthy people in our country? aren't they employee? never.
it is always that businessmen are the one who does.
they don't work for money instead they have this excellent idea of having money work for them. they don't want boss instead they assume as boss. and that is what business can do.
Can you cite someone who became rich by just employing? don't mind those who do illegal things including politician, because they make rich out of people's money.
only those who really became successful in life in a healthy manner.

I rather work at home like a part time job which I had now. I don't like to put business here in Philippines as political situation is not that good and stable. Its also needing a lot of capital to start your business here in our country. Working employees requires most of your time and low pay so I guess I will be a part time employee than having a business of my own, well maybe in the future I can come up with a good business concept that doesn;t require a bigger capital investment.

Yeah it's true.. It's kinda hard to think of a certain business that will boom over there and starting up your own business in itself is a risk cause you never really know if it'll sell or not, plus the fact that you have to come up with that capital to start off with. And yes, working for an employee eats up your whole day and yet the pay isn't that good.. hay.. working freelance is indeed better than a full time employment I guess.

I do both. I prefer having my own business, but it does not generate enough income at this time.
I used to think that "as an employee is that you don't have to worry too much...". I worked for 19 years, then I was told that the company was doing some reorganizing that did not include me. I was laid off, downsized. There is no such thing as "job security" any more.
Another disadvantage of being an employee, is working for or with someone that you do not care to be around.

I think with the increasing umemployemnt in our country I would prefer to set up my own business..so that I myself can create some jobs for someone..
I think everyone should have such a mindset to tackle the growing problem of unemployemnet..

ipersonally believe that having your own business is a lot better over being employed.though the first is riskier than the latter, everything will be dependent on how you'll mak things happen.being an employee limits one's opportunities.if you have your own business and is determined,i don't think success would that hard to gain.though certain factors needs to be considered as well, the higher the risk the higher posible returns/benefits could be attained.

Anyone with least enterpreneaural skills will prefer a business. But it also depends upon one's capital adequacy. For me, I would prefer doing Business. Rite now I'm an online trader, working for my ownself.

I would prefer doing a job with a good position, that you have a stable income and in business the income varies and sometimes if you are in loss then you will always be in tension, so better you do a good job instead of business.

I would rather start up my own business, thats my ultimate goal. Its always best to be the boss and manage your own rather than have a boss.
When you have your own business all the efforts and hardships you give is for your company not for someone else's company.
Of course if you start up your own business theres no telling if you're going to be successful or not, but as long as you have the dedication, hardwork and have the heart to keep on trying it will always be worth giving a try..if it works then you'll be earning more compared to being employed in a different company...

To start a business it requires a preplanned and prefinaced things or loans could be gained but it requires financial firmnes that gives you a strong base for business.
So I would rather choose to go on Joing others Business (JOB). Did you know that?

Yes, I have done both as well. I must say, when you work for someone else, things are much easier and well-defined. I currently work as a Freelance Writer, plus, my husband and I work in the Flea Market business and make our own t-shirts, mousepads, etc, and we also sell on Ebay. There is a lot of work that goes into a business - that is for sure. It seems that I had more time off when I worked for someone else too!

yeah, when you work for somebody else it's just like, doing what you are expected to do at certain hours and after that you're free. But engaging in your own business and may I say multiple business is going to take alot of your time. But nonetheless, you're working for your own success.

I think its better to start your own company. Not only do you learn from such an experience but if it works out then its a really big pay off and you can claim that you were a success. High risk high reward. Im going to be starting my own business sometime in the near future hopefully. Still doing research though... ;)

Yeah, we should all research and prepare ourselves first before getting into our own business cause it really is a big risk.

I would love to start my own business. The reason why is because I want to be my own boss. I dont like being told what to do all the time or feel like your boss is watching your every move, i mean who does. I guess if I dont have luck starting my own business that I would be an employee. But I would really love to start my own business. Goood Topic.

Thanks for complementing the topic.
Yeah everyone wants to be their own boss I guess.
And I also think it is easy to say that we want our own business but actually starting one is more complicated than it sounds.. ehhe..
Well anyways, good luck to everyone that plans to start up their own business..

I'm dying to start my own business, I just haven't figured out what kind to start yet. Working for other people drives me nuts. I think that if I were paid in proportion to how hard I work that I would be happy and the only way I know of to do that is to start your own business.
