So I assume some people here live in Houston. Do you like it or hate it? What areas do you like and what areas do you try to avoid? I lived there a year and enjoyed the Clear Lake area. I would like to go on a Ghost Tour in Galveston next time I go there. The backdraw was having to flee from a hurricane and having such a high murder rate in the city.

Its better to live in the suburbs right outside of Houston than actually in the city. I would avoid the SW part of town, especially at night.

that kills me how when people describe houston. they capitolize on this "high murder rate" thing. as if to say this will give some kind of validation to houston as a REAL city. no, iraq has a high murder rate...would you like to go there?!!! is it a happening city, too? i think that should be put to bed. houston is boring and sucks. so does texas in general. dallas and austin not that bad.

Well thankfully the Murder rate has gone down, and I LOVE living in Houston! There's EVERYTHING in houston Except for a theme park, and Kemah is doing the best it can! There's always a festival, or a free exhibit, or a special showing, or anything to do in Houston! The downfall is traffic and crime, but, we can't just kick people out because Houston is just that awesome!

what houston are you living in? things to do??? the things you have listed existed in mississippi. so what? this is the most boring place in world next to a scrub out in the bushes. kemah....oh yeah the place that has the only body of water in texas...lol...and it looks like chocolate water it's so muddy. festivals are everywhere...so are free exhibits. the city shuts down at 6pm when all the people in suits go home 50 miles outside of houston. what a joke this joke this is. i can't wait to get out, and let houstonians have their houston. i bet no houstonian could ever make it in a real city. that's ususally what i here. that's why they mostly stick in houston.most places are tooo fast pase for them.

I have lived in Houston my entire life, and while Houston has so much to offer, I have to say I really hate the weather! I just know there has to be so many better places to live in this big world of ours, but I will admit the reason I am hesitant to leave is because it is the ONLY place I have ever lived. Pretty lame, huh? I am afraid to strike out on my own. All my friends and family are here. I just don't think I could thrive without the support network of having family nearby. OH, the ghost tour of Galveston is awesome, btw. Very strange story...my teaching partner and I were taking pictures with her camera at the old Galveston Opera House while we were on a field trip with our 2nd Grade students. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until we viewed the pictures and saw strange orbs of light. *Enter Twilight Zone music*
See ya,

this is the WORST place in the world. it's hot. everything is to spread out. it's boring. it's too conservative. the people here are lifeless. i don't know how this place has the highest murder rate in the world. how does that happen? lol. oh i know, it's because the clubs stay open so late...lol. 12am. ha! houston...4th largest city in the world. large meaning land mass. certainly not metropolitan. what a joke this city is. everyone here is soooo phoney and two faced. anybody thinking about comming here...think again. move to alabama it's ways better. lol.

I also lived in Houston most of my adult life and thought it was the place to be. Now I live in Katy and wouldn't trade it for the world. Also Katy has the best public school district and Houston doesn't. That for me is very important since I have two little girls. It is also very family oriented which is something Houston lacks. I work in Houston and it is great to come to shop and all, but not to live.
Now I did live in a small town in Oregon called Ontario and hated it very much. Nothing to do and very boring and quiet. TV goes off every night at midnight so there is nothing to watch. Boy was I glad to be back in Texas.
Now I'm married and very happy with our lives living where we live.

Houstone- YAAAAAAYYY! It's my hometown, and I love it! The weather's horrible, the traffic's worse, but it's home! I have lived in Fort Worth now for 13 yrs, and it will NEVER be home to me. That's because 90% of my memories here stink! I miss the simplicity of my life back in Houston. All my family is still there, and my REAL friends are there. I have no real friends here. I grew up in East Houston, kind of around the Aldine area. We lived in spring for about 4 years, loved it there! Don't care too much for the South or Southwest/ West sides- too busy. But I'd live anywhere in Houston opposed to THIS place, which I affectionately call Crapsplat Texas!

I've lived in the Alief area for about 5 years now. I'm a military brat and have lived all over the place. I have definately lived places that I've hated more than this. My husband and I both work about 15 minutes from home and everything that we need to get is within a couple of miles of us. I like that the cost of living is fairly decent out here for a larger city. But I hate the extreme weather out here!!! We run the air conditioner probably 10 months out of the year. The hurricanes don't bother me that much because you always have time to prepare. Besides, every part of the country has its own set of natural disasters: hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, floods, fires, blizzards- take your pick.

Okay, so I've lived in Houston for a little over a month now, and honestly, it feels like home. I move around a lot, so it doesn't take me long to adjust really.
The beach does suck though. I spent four years in Pensacola, Florida, and the beaches there are absolutely amazing. Galveston beaches suck in comparison.

I lived in Houston until I was 19 years old. I also lived just outside of Houston in the city of Humble too. The part of Houston I lived in was not that great. It was run down and the crime rate was high. Lucklty my mother moved out of the area years ago.
I have never been on the ghost tour in Galveston so I will have to check that out.
I went through two hurricanes when I lived there and that is probably the worst thing about living there.

I live right outside of Houston for about four months. I drove into Houston every day for work. The normal 20 minute drive could take up to 2 hours to complete. We left because we didn't want to commute into the city during the week to work and couldn't find jobs in our professions in the city we lived in. I would never, ever moved back there. Heck, if a hurricane was going to hit again and my only option was to go to Houston, I would take my chances with the hurricane! LOL

I live in the Clear Lake area. I used to like living here but after going to school in San Marcos, I would rather live there and be in a small town nestled between two big cities. Clear Lake is a small area but being within the Houston City limits and the constant traffic is now too much for me.

I like the Houston area. The heat gets to me, and the bugs. But the cost of living is low, which is great. Everything is cheaper! Being close to the coast is very nice also, and a major airport right there, too.

I like it here. We moved from El Campo, Texas almost 8 years ago. My husband hates the traffic and I hate the high electric bill and heat but over all I enjoy this city. There is a lot to do here. Baseball, football, basketball, hockey, museums, concerts etc.

I lived in Houston for almost five years and pretty much loved it except for the first year when there was a hurricane that flooded the street in front of the apartment building that I lived in. We couldn't drive anywhere because the water was so high but the parking lot was high enough that it never even came up to our cars. That was my first taste of a hurricane party!!! But when Christmas came and I could go outside wearing shorts and a halter top, I thought I was on cloud nine. (I moved from Ohio where you got to freeze in the winter. Burrr)
