What is your favorite casserole dish?

When I was a teenager, my favorite was tuna noodle casserole. Boil your egg noodles until tender. Place in a casserole dish. Add a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of drained tuna fish and mix together. I would also add chunks of cheddar cheese to this mix when we had it. Top with crushed saltine crackers and bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Nummy, quick and cheap to boot.

I call this my 'Bung-it, Months End or Left Overs Casserole' ... Get the slow cooker out and plug it in .. Now open all your cupboards and the fridge freezer and see what's left .. usually you will find an assortment of bits and pieces .. perhaps 2-3 mushrooms, a potato, tin of tomatoes, some beans (legume kind).. Hold your head in your hands for a few minutes and rub gently .. 'despair' is not one of the ingredients .. Collect up all the odds and ends of foodstuffs, discarding any going rotten, mouldy or simply years out of date .. Take a large chopping board and peel and chop all the vegetables and throw into the slow cooker .. Next open the tins of tomatoes, chickpeas (or what have you) rinse and tip into the slow cooker .. It should have started to look more like a casserole at this stage .. Now it's time to measure the amount of space left in the slow cooker .. scour the cupboards again for anything remotely edible and that will go with all the other things you've already put in the slowcooker .. Try and find an old packet of powdered instant soup (usually right at the very back of the cupboard out of sight) and mix with the appropriate amount of water .. pour into the slow cooker .. add a stock cube if you have one for added flavour ... Stir well .. at this point DO NOT try tasting it .. you are not yet hungry enough for it to taste superb .. Sit back and wait for 4-5 hours until the Bung It Casserole is starting to leak fairly tempting odours from under the rim of the lid ... Retrieve the hunk of bread you had meant to put out for the birds .. check carefully for mould .. if ok .. break into cubes reading for dunking into your casserole .. If your tummy is gurgling non stop then the casserole is probably ready ... ladle into a large soup dish, season lightly as you don't want to spoil the 'delicate' flavours .. dunk in your bread chunks and be glad you have a lovely tasting casserole made from left overs you would have thrown out the next day !

I love Tuna noodle casserole's as well.. I find the ingredients to be very affordable, but also I find the recipe to be so very simple as well.. I still quite enjoy making this as well & do from time to time.. I'd have to say that my favorite casserole to make as of right now would have to be "Pizza Casserole." I included the recipe below if anyone would be interested in trying to make it sometime.. "Pizza Casserole." Ingredients to make this dish: - 2 cups of uncooked egg noodles - 1/2 pound of lean ground beef - 1 onion, chopped finely - 2 cloves of garlic, minced - 1 cup of sliced pepperoni sausage - 16 ounces of pizza sauce - 4 tablespoons of milk - 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese The directions for this recipe: - Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. - Then cook the noodles according to the directions on the package. - Then in a medium skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef with the onion, a long with the garlic. Then drain the excess fat as you go or as much as necessary. Then you stir in the noodles, the pepperoni, as well as the pizza sauce, the milk & then mix it very well. Then pour the mixture in to a 2 quart glass casserole dish. - Then bake at 350 degrees F. For roughly about 20 minutes. Then take out & top with the cheese.. I always put the cheese after putting everything in the casserole dish.. Instead of having to put it back in the oven all over again.. But if you want to put it back in the oven after putting cheese on top.. Just cook it for an extra 5 - 10 minutes until the cheese has melted. Then serve & ENJOY! . .

I never really tried any casserole dish until this past christmas. I tried my mom's green bean casserole and I loved it. I thought that I wouldn't like it because I don't really like that many vegetables. But now I'm always asking her to make it for me.

Thanks for the recipe. I have one that is easy and the kids I used to babysit loved it. Its called Kid's Casserole. KID'S CASSEROLE 1 box any potatoes au gratin 1 can beans w/bacon (I use Campbell's) 1 package of hot dogs OR 1 ham steak cut into bite size pieces Prepare potatoes per instructions on box. Mix in ham/hot dog pieces and beans w/bacon. Bake in over per instructions on box or until golden brown. And another hot dog one that kids love. Its called Corn Dog Casserole. Corn Dog Casserole 2 cups finely minced celery 2 Tbsp butter 1-1/2 cups sliced green onions 1-1/2 pounds of hot dogs 2 eggs 1-1/2 cups milk 2 tsp sage 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/4 tsp salt 2-8.5 oz Jiffy muffin mix 8 oz sharp Cheddar Cheese shredded Sauté celery in butter for 5 minutes. Add onions and continue cooking 2 minutes. Dump skillet ingredients into a large bowl. Cut hot dogs in half lengthwise, then chop into bite size pieces. Sauté dogs in skillet; turning to brown. Add to bowl. Reserve 1 cup of hot dogs & veggies in a small bowl. Slightly beat eggs & milk together. Add egg mix and next 4 ingredients to bowl. Add 1-1/2 cups of cheese to bowl also. Mix all ingredients well. Spray 13x9 Pyrex. Pour in casserole. Top with reserve hot dogs and cheese. Bake uncovered at 400 for 30 minutes.

Recently I "made up" a casserole that we have dubbed Pizza Casserole. Boil Rotini noodles until tender place in casserole dish (or even a cake pan) Add a jar of spaghetti sauce, 1 lb. sausage (browned and drained) and pepperoni. Top with mozzerala cheese. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted and sides bubble. We have also added onions and other favorite pizza toppings. This is one of my husband's favorites!

We have a family favorite casserole recipe that was given to us by a friend years ago when I was growing up. I haven't prepared it because my mom has the recipe and I haven't lived at home for ages. Anyway, I remember it being diced potatoes, diced onions and corn. I know, it sounds simple and not very tasty but it is really yummy! I'll have to get the recipe from my mom and post it here.

No meat in it? Sounds a bit like a shepards pie without the meat.

I am an odd kinda cook. I invent dishes as I go along. This is one of my personal favorites. It is easy on the stomach. I will put in layers of raw ground chuck, potatoes, zucchini, onions, shredded cheese and fresh tomatoes. I always begin and end with the ground chuck. I add some spices to the bottom, middle and top layer. You just never know what spices I will add but I do always use black pepper, rosemary and whatever else I come up with at the time.Cover and bake on 350 till a fork will slide telling you everything is done. Usually about 35 to 45 minutes

I make something similar but instead I use browned ground beef in place of the tuna, no cheese and 2 cans of cream of chicken with 1 can of water added and bake. Hamburger Noodle Casserole. My ultimate fave is lasagna, not exactly a casserole per say but still my fave!

Mmmm, my mother made us the same kind of casserole. Sometimes it was with noodles, other times it was macaroni & cheese with tuna. Instead of saltimes, she used potato chips. One of my all-time favorite dishes.

I used to love tuna casserole. I like just about any casserole, they're easy and cheap. I've started eating vegan and made a really yummy vegan version of broccoli casserole for Thanksgiving and a very good vegan shepherd's pie about a week ago.
