Why do women have to shave their legs and armpits and men don't?

No, every culture in the world doesn't have our same standards. It's been a few years back, but when I was leaving work for maternity leave, my boss hired a little temp who had recently married an American and come here from Italy. She was a little cutie. After I returned from leave the men told me that she was cute, but they couldn't stand either her hairy armpits or the fact that she didn't use deoderant. Those were both real turnoffs to them.

Well I should HOPE they were turned off! LOL I'm not talking about her pits, legs, etc. I'm talking about the fact that they should not have been turned on by a married lady!

I wouldnt say women have to but it looks better. I guess I have never thought of it like that. Yes it is double standards, but isnt most things when it comes to men? lol

I was going to say the same as xbrendax. That is probably a good reason why, though I don't really like hairy armpits (ugh!!)

Well, that's just the way society is, but of course a person can be and look any way they want, there are no laws on that! Also I guess it's a way of fitting IN, as they say, do as everybody else does! I never did! I was never one of the crowd!

Many guys shave, especially athletes and some gay men.

Well we don't exactly have to if we don't want to but we choose to do it instead of being alone living with a bunch of hairy cats. I think men find a shaved woman very sexy so we do it to be wanted and feel sexy. My sister-in-law has tried something called Veet and she says it is good and keeps the hairs off longer then shaving and the hair removal product Nair. I use wax strips and ocasionally shave. But they are lotions out there that slow down the growth of hair with regular use this works also because I use a lotion by Jergens called naturally smooth. Well to each there own.

I definitely think it's a double standard.
One day my FATHER asked me why I didn't shave my legs. I asked him why he didn't shave his, then I yelled at him for even LOOKING at my legs, and told him fathers should not look closely enough at their daughters legs to notice!!
THAT shut him up pretty quickly.

Women don't have to. They choose to.
I chose not to shave my armpits for many years. Now I shave them because my girlfriend likes it. And when she likes it, it means good things for me. ;)
I don't shave my legs because leg hair really doesn't bother me.

Yeah no...woman's hair grows long and beautifully from the head...and thats it. Anything else is shaved...it's simply considered good hygeine for women these days, and socially unacceptable for a woman to walk around with furry legs. It's simply a common understanding
