Do you read the blurbs or comments about the book before you actually open the main book to read? If so, why do you do this? Is there a particular reason? Does it give too much about the story? Also, when you are selecting a book; do you pick up a book if you liked the cover; or the graphics on the cover? Why, do you have a good reason for this 'habbit'?

Yes, your honor, I plead guilty to readig the blurbs before I decide to buy the book. Lolz..
The reason behind this habit is for me to know what the book is all about and if it's the kind of book I should be reading or the kind of book that I would enjoy. The first thing I look at before picking up a book is the label on the bookstand. If it says, "technical books", I try to get as far away from it as I possible.
And I definitely look at the author. The pictures on the cover doesn't fool me. Sometimes the most bland-looking cover houses the greatest of book experiences.

If a cover strikes my eyes, I'll pick it up. Then I have to read the blurbs, the back cover, the inside jacket blurbs and decide if it sounds exciting or not. It has to catch my attention and sometimes I'm impressed by who does the blurbs and the "come-ons". That will help me decide if I want to spend the money to read the book.

I read the blurb first to get an understanding of what the book is about otherwise I have no idea if I'll even remotely like it.
I generally do pick up books with covers I like, they just stand out more too me, I'll then read the blurb to see what its about.

Comments and/or reviews about the book help me draw a mental picture of what to expect. I wouldn't want to start reading a book and be disappointed in the end or get confused halfway.

If i am to pick up a book which i have not heard about then i doo read the blurbs. I enjoy reading them and go back to them after i finish reading a book to see if i did think of the book the same way as those who hav commented..

I read the cover, and the beginning of each chapter and the end of each chapter... and look at how accurate the content is or not accruate.. Usually by the time I get into the checkout I have read 25% of the book before I brought it. Sometimes I buy for graphics, other times information, other times for facts, or things I may want to learn to Do it yourself with. - DNatureofDTrain
