Ok, what's the deal with Joaquin Pheonix's upper lip?

I've always thought Joaquin Phoenix has had a cleft lip as a child and had it repaired. I still do, even after reading the response above. What do you think, Weezy?

Joaquin has a scar on his lip. According to Joaquin: "When my mon was pregnant with me she was in a hammock on the beach and seh got these intense pains, and she felt as if some force, God or whatever, had caused this. Then I`m born. A few weeks later she takes me to the doctor, he sees me and says, `Who did this harelip operation? That`s the best operation I`ve ever seen.` Mom said, `No one. He wasn`t born with a harelip.` I was just born with the scar." The birth scar is a microform, almost taking the form of a cleft, as the tissues just reached far enough to join up; since the bone and muscle tissues joined correctly no surgery or cleft repair was required. happy mylot day.

I used to think it was a cleft lip too for ages... but then I read a few places that the above was true. He was born with a scar... kind of a birthmark :)
