i don't even have a single star. how can i get one?does it increase my earnings?

Yes you do...you have a 6-star by your name. Don't know yet what benefit it has...it is still very new.

it seems to me that it depends on the number of plus ratings you get from those whos discussions you respond to.Those with 10 stars are regularly getting plus ratings often from their extensive network of friends.
However i think there is a lot made of star ratings, it is just a guide and, as mylot have said, it doesnt make one member better than another, it just means one is generally better thought of by their peers than another one. I think that generally its a good idea as it gives us all something to strive for.

I think that having a higher star rating increases your earnings, so it does make a difference.
Making good responses that answer the person's question (if there is one) will help you get + ratings, which can increase your star rating. And if your responses are chosen as 'best', that will help too.
Some people answer specific questions with answers that are so irrelevant that they probably get - . Like if someone is asking 'what did you think of the ending of such and such a movie' and a person answers 'I don't know, I missed that movie, but maybe I'll see it,' to me answers like that are likely to get the - rating.
I don't think there is discrimination towards U.S. users, but some people whose English isn't good may be posting answers that are hard to understand, or they may be very short because the person doesn't feel comfortable in English.

Previously I got 8 after my posting but now I got 7 star after my posting.Is it my promotion or demotion,I don't know.

Well for the most part i can say is to make your answers as long as you can filled with great quality ansers,and have web addresses where needed,,and post of many different topics instead of many in the same catagory,and make sure you post many threads yourself..thats just what i do.

You just got to start good discussions according to the guidelines and respond to discussions that following the guidelines as well. And before you know it, you will get there.
