Well,I think it depends on which part of the world you are and where you came from. I am comfortable with my tanned skin now than before. Why? because I've met people in Europe who wanted tanned skin so badly and they expose themselves excessively under the sunlight but for me, I find it painful to my skin exposing myself under the heat of the sun. Asian skin is naturally tanned because we develope melanine pigmentation in our skin because we are regularly exposed to sunlight in our daily lives, While in Europe or Americas where sunlight is not part of their daily lives and only gets sun on seasonal basis, they have white skins.
In Asia we like white skin because we tend to admire white skinned people because of our western influences. We tend to bleach ourselves because the fair skinned people are those who are rich and doesnt work under the heat of the sun.
In Africa, where people are black, they admire "mistiza" or fairly tanned skin. But they don't like white because they associate it with the racial descrimination and separation of black and white people. They tend to hate white skinned.
I think the cliche that tanned skin looks sexy developed in Europe and Americas when "Asiatic Beauty" was popular during the discovery of Asia and the charm asian beauties brings to them and everybody wants a tanned skin.

You hit it home. I have nothing else to say:) I am also more comfortable now about my skin than before. And nice to hear compliments about how even my tan color is and all... I hear about people wanting tanned skin and spending thousands of moeny for it. I even hear someone said that tanned skin is the color of the rich because they're the only who can afford to lie under the sun and tan:P Im not into staying under the heat of the sun but im ok with natural tanning like even if I am not lying around in sun beds or at the beach I still get dark anyway. Its safer too. :) And yes, Asian skin are popular in the US or European countries while in Asia, European skin or caucasians are whats in for most. Its sad too because alot of people here would choose a mestiza over a morena or asian skin lady as beautiful .

It is true that for some countries that belong to less sunny region, tanned people are rich because they can afford vacations. During winter they usually go out of the country to escape the winter. If they have money they go to tropical countries and soak in the sun. Lying beside the pool or in beaches under the sun with palm trees or coconut trees. That describes their vacation. Hence, they have this notion that if you are tan, you are rich. The other way around how asians perception towards skin color.

Will, I am a natural tan and I don't like being in the sun too long anyway.
I get too hot and uncomfortable.
A tan color is nice, it looks great, but at the cost of ones safety is it all worth it.
Go and buy a bottle of fake tan and keep oneself safe from the merciless sun.

I like it and I like people with a nice tan skin. I don't like the colour of the artificial tanning (solarium, etc.) but when the skin is dark for natural reason... the sun, the sport. I don't spend time on a sun bed on the beach or to the swimming pool. I like natural tanning... doing thing outside.

I have a very olive skin tone. This means if I go natural and don't get any sun I look yellow, jaundice. It is not attractive. I have always loved dark complexions and always wished I had one when I was younger. I much prefer having a tan to not having a tan. I don't care if it is fake sun or the real sun. It looks all the same on me.

No, i don't like to get tan at all, because am already tan. In fact i try to stay away from sun as much as possible cause i would want a lighter skin complexion. I like tan skin but i've been tan eversince, so i would like a new skin color, not so white but just a lighter shade than my original skin.

I'm really pale and although I don't mind it usually (I have blonde hair and blue eyes so it suits me) I think it can look apalling if showing off your body. There's nothing worse than pale milk bottle legs- they look so much slimmer when tanned. So if I have a special occassion where i'm showing them i'll do a cheap home spray tan.

i don't know why other people buy bronzers, tanning lotions, etc. so they can be darker. i'm tan already and i wanna be whiter. i guess we're never contented with the skin we're born with.

I used to when I was a teenager. I got a healthy glow and quit when I saw girls at my school who looked like rubber or the painted look--it just wasn't natural or they looked really old. I am booty white now--trying to let my skin recover from what I put it through. I'd probably never tan in a bed again...although I miss the warmth of them! I'll do a spray tan before I tan in a bed. I don't want anymore sun wrinkles...I am 25 and don't want to encourage the aging process.

Yes I like tanning my skin; I am a natural blonde (dark blonde hair)and blue eyes, but I prefer when my skin is darker. In the summertime I get so tanned, that I often look like a gypsy (LoL), but at winter - I use self tanning cremes mostly and sometimes I go to solarium :}
Though i know how dangerous solariums and the Sun itself are - I still love to get tanned.
