Which kind of camping do you prefer, cold weather or warm weather? My husband and I love to go camping, we haven't done it too much yet, but we're planning on changing that. We went cold weather camping about a year ago, at Unicoi State park. Living in Georgia, it was better, there were no bugs and no humidity. It even snowed on us a little, just flurries but it was constant for a while, which was fun for us since we don't see it too often. Cold weather camping better for having campfires too. We also prefer primitive camping, it's so much more adventurous. We only stay one night because at our age, our backs can't handle more than that, but we're still away from home from early Saturday morning, until late Sunday night. We are planning another trip this February too, maybe we'll have some snow again. I've heard of RV clubs, we should start a camping club.

Cold weather camping, OOOOOO! You go! Me, oh no! LOL
I am all about the summer camping! We camp out by a lake so there is swimming, bug collecting (I know sick) and hiking. We go with a tent, some sleeping bags, a cooler with food and that's it. Well a cell phone in case of emergency. We stay a weekend, but like you, our backs are not in best shape and we pay for it.

We also take the sleeping bags, no cots or air matresses for us (it takes away from the experience), and LOTS of blankets though. We take all our own food, and usually cook actual meals for dinner, we usually do hot dogs or hamburgers for lunch, and for breakfast it's either pancakes or french toast. I really enjoy the challenge of cooking on the coleman stove. My husband is getting the hang of the percolator for his coffee (even though the first time the grounds spilled all in the pot ...gross...
luckily I don't care that much for cofee, I'm a hot chocolate drinker).

Camping is great fun anytime, except for the bugs and humidity that we Georgians have to deal with. And when it's warm (or hot) the campfire loses it's appeal. It also makes it harder to take the kids in the summer, it just gets a little too hot for them. There is some nice camping on the Tallulah River and the temperature is cool at night and early in the morning in the summer, we may try to take out son there this summer, he can maybe do a little trout fishing with his dad while we're there.

I think I'll stick to the warm nights and my caravan with awning if you don't mind.
I like to get outdoors and do stuff but tents are for kids and my kids would escape from one so I have a caravan, I can lock the door at night, lol.
Ithink you are very brave tenting, oooh it maks me shudder to think of it.
I hope you really enjoy your tent, I'm sure it's more fun than I remember from being a kid, brrrr its cold out there

We do a lot of camping however I have never done cold weather camping on purpose! lol! What I mean is, a few times when we've gone camping in June, it has gotten pretty cold at night, but it wasn't intentional. I prefer camping when it's warm during the day and around 60 at night. That way I can still cuddle under the sleeping bag, but I'm not too cold.
When I get cold, it takes forever for me to warm up, so I will never intentionally camp when it's below 50 at night!

It does stay cold when we go (and it gets colder the darker it gets), we stay real close to the campfire, usually wrapped in blankets, but it's so cool to see the night sky. I guess I enjoy it because I don't usually go out at home and look at it. It's also our main time away from home, since we don't take any other vacations. (We enjoy the cuddling too, when it's cold you tend to get closer).

I love to camp. I usually go without my husband and take along my 3 kids and my 2 nieces. I don't really enjoy camping in the heat and the bitter cold is out. I enjoy it the most in spring and fall. Generally, being in New York, I'll camp from April until the end of June and then Sept until about the start of November. We have a blast. One thing that I purchased, that I absolutely adore, is a pop up bed. It is on a frame, not heavy, the frame pops up kind of like an easy up awning and then the airmatteress fits inside a piece of fabric that is on top of the frame. It is very comfortable and I have gone camping for a week at a time using this. I believe that I paid $70 and it was a great investment.

My family loves camping. We camp May -end of October, and that is enough for us. We spend a lot of time upstate NY, and the October nights can get pretty nippy. The campfires help but once the cold gets into your bones, nothing helps. Unfortnately, at 40 you start to feel everything.

I like warm weather but not HOT and not cold. I'm from Pennsylvania and I can just walk outside right now if I want to be in the cold..LOL
With the warm weather the kids can play by the lake side, we can go boating, skiing, tubing or just sit around and read and it is comfortable. Hot makes me really miserable and cold would have me in my car with the heat on...LOL!

Warm weather camping is by far, better. I can handle the heat better than I can the cold. With warm weather you also get rain and storms and such, but you also get fishing and fresh fruit for lunch.

I grew up camping.I loved to sleep in a sleeping bag in a tent. After I grew up my father got a popup camper.I teased him about that not being true camping. Then he started taking a TV.Before I knew it he started setting up a satellite dish. Boy did I give him a hard time, teasing. He said it was part of being old.Mind you he will go set up for a month or so,but still.
Guess what.I can't sleep in a sleeping bag in a tent for nothing now.I have some real bad back problems & have developed that lovely arthritis in most of my joints.I gave up camping because I just couldn't do it.
Last summer my dad decided to get a newer popup camper. He offered me his old one at a great price. My hubby had to reassure me that it wasn't being a wimp to use a camper and that it was worth it to be able to do something I enjoy. Now I am a proud owner of a popup camper.LOL!
We still have a tent.Hubby can still sleep in one, on an air mattress - hee hee.The kids love the tent. So, when he can go camping he sleeps in the tent so the kids can, too.
As for the cold weather camping, can't really handle it anymore.I'm really not old.I just wish my body understood that.
No,I have no intention of packing up a satellite! I enjoy just sitting by the campfire and talking.I prefer places away from the crowds, so I can enjoy the quiet.

First of all, you're not old, because if you are, then I am, and I won't let that happen (I even try to ignore the fact that my oldest children are 18 and almost 22). That aside, no, you're not being a wimp using a popup camper. The way I see it, if you're outside and away from home, it's camping. As for the satellite (and TV), when we went to Unicoi State park they did have electrical outlets which was nice, we did hang a string of lights for a little extra light after dark, and we had a radio. I also enjoy the more quiet, less crowded camp areas, it's so much more peaceful, and in the cold weather, the crowds are definitely not there.

Yes, I refuse to get old; even if I do have 5 grandchildren. My body just doesn't understand that. My oldest grandson gets mad if anyone tries to say I'm old.He growls,"My grandma is NOT old!"
Honestly, I really do like the popup camper now that I have it.I still can not do cold weather. It's not heated. My joints wouldn't handle it without a little warmth. How cold are you talking?
I'll be glad when it warms up enough to go camping, again.

My family loves to camp. Me, hubby, and two boys.....we usually camp in the spring, summer or fall when it is not too cold. I actually prefer it to be cooler and not too hot because of the fires like you said, bugs, and just the feel of autumn in the air is great. The one time we went when it was cold, we froze! We only have a tent not an rv and the ground was so cold! Even though we had blow up mattresses you could still feel the cold throught them. Other than that it was great!

When I was single, I used to camp in all weather and backpack alot. Once I got married, that all changed. My hubby can't handle cold weather, never could. Once of these days, I'm going to try and get my family to go backpacking. I used to love to just pack up and hike to my campsite, cook over the fire, etc. I still have most of my backpacking equipment cept for the water purifier and pack.

I prefer to go camping when it is warm outside. The only time I have gone when it was cold was when I was in the Army. I did not find that to be that much of a pleasant experience.
