It seems to me that times have moved on but the public are still being taken for a ride. In a world where your ability to access healthcare is dependent on paid premiums and insurance, and items of medical services are listed with prices and costs. Why are donations in such demand? Since money rules and everybody pays, why not get something for your used parts?
They want to charge thousands of dollars just to burn your corpse yet they want donated lungs and livers and stuff. No way hose. The time has gone when I can afford to give ..give ...give.
(I'm having a mean day. I just paid a years car tax!)

Sorry you had a mean day. Hopefully, you're better now. I wouldn't want to sell or donate my body parts. The thought of it make me sick. But, I would donate it to my flesh and blood if needed be and maybe my husband.

It's not just about money.
I've heard horror stories of people in critical condition without insurance that had the little organ donor symbol on their driver's licenses being left to die so some paying patient could have his/her organs.
I'm afraid that with this world the way it is today, I don't have a hard time believing those stories at all.
Enjoy your mean day :)
Being a redhead, I know what those mean days feel like, lol.

I'm aware that this is happening. Whether you get paid or not some rich dude will get the lung. You may as well get paid, for the benefit of your children etc.
Better to fight for universal health insurance, and scrap the donor system.
I would advocate world wide human rights to health insurance, and a minimum wage.
Better to have assumed body parts available for sale permissions, and card carrying, or tatood, body-part refusals.
How can it be right, that in poor countries blood is sold to survive, whilst in wealthy countries blood is donated to a system that runs on money?

hahaha what a lovely idea, but why the hell not? well to me it resurects an age old problem, that of body snatchers. Once body parts become commodities someone will start steeling them to sell on, can you imagine an illicit trade in human hearts. Better still, we get a new job oppertunity, how about body snatcher. Just think we could chop em up and sell by the organ, ohhhhh the possibilities are endless
blessed be

So you will be charging an arm and a leg for your body parts? hahahahah
I recently started a discussion on donating your body to science and the responces are mostly positive.
But when you make the donations, you will be deceased and what will you do the money. I guess you will have to decide before hand (no pun intended)who of your offspring gets paid for your body:) :) Have a happier day :) :)

Of course I'm an organ donor! Why wouldn't you be. There's not use umming and ahhing about doing it for free when people need the organs to survive. I still want to be able to help people even when I'm gone and this is most definitely the best way to do it.

Because, as you said, everything has a price. If we start selling body parts only those who can afford to pay for them get the needed organs. Or worse, they go to the highest bidder instead of the most sick.
The system is not perfect, but when you see what happens in other countries where body organ donations are not well-regulated, you are darn grateful for it. There are hospitals in other countries that agree to treat sick poor people only if they can get their organs when they die. Or people who are paid a pittance for their organs (obviously ones like a spare kidney), which then go to rich people. The rich people then get follow up care, but the donor does not. Often leaving the donor too sick to work, which means the money they took to pay off their debts did not make a difference.

LOL... well I'm thinking I never want to cross you when you have to pay any taxes higher than the car one!
I have often wondered why they can charge so much myself, when it's all been donated, but if you think about it.. the time of the doctor's the keeping of the organ fresh and usable, etc. cost money. I'm hoping that they don't truly "make money" off a body part. But hey, I've been wrong ONE other time! LOL J/k!
Personally, I'm not gonna use it... so let someone who can use it have it. I'm gone... go for it! lol

well, some of the people can't afford of availing parts to transfer. Not all people and area have this insurance thing. For sacrifice means. people donated parts of their own for the sake of helping and concern to the lives of others. Its a very heroic thing to do. Donating parts to others is very risky and can be the reason of exchange of own lives.
