I never used the trainer as my cat taught himself to use our toilet. He would always follow me in there and when I went out he would sniff around the base. One day, I went to go in and he was sitting on the seat going...imagine my surprise! When he was done he would get up and leave. We laughed that we always had to wait for the bathroom because the cat was in there!

That's fantastic. So, your cat doesn't use any litter pans? Does the lid of the toilet get dirty from him?

Very rarely did he use the litter pan. we always had one just in case. :) He's in kitty heaven now but he was one fantastic cat. He will always be my favorite.

I think it is gross to have your cat use the same facilities as the rest of the family!! I know it is cute or whatever, but cats can transfer toxoplasmosis through their feces, which is leathal for humans!
Also wouldn't want my little cat's feet--that have been god knows where (she loves exploring the compost) on my toilet seat!

I am not sure that I want to share a toilet with my cats. I don't think it would very sanitary.

Hahhaha, one never knows. Read some of them above. I like the one when the cat flushes the toilet. Heheehhe.

I've heard you can get cats to do that. I've read several stories, one even had their cat trained to flush when it was done lol. My mom bought me a small book on it years ago, takes a lot of time and effort, and I think it said it worked best with younger cats. I remember the book said something to about how to "respect the cat's privacy" lol, and to make sure guests know your cat is "potty trained" one, so they don't close the lid, and two, so they don't walk in on the cat lol.

Wow, I think it is so cool. No litter, into the toilet, and they flush. Thanks for the info my friend.

I have heard of cats bing trained this way, but never have seen it. If my cats did this they would have to give up one of their favorite water dishes. LOL

Me too. But these trainers only have a tiny hole. Did you read the statements above? Wild, huh?

Search MyLot for this. someone posted a really long post with directions a few months ago about how to train your cat to use the toliet (some will never be able to do it but hers was the most effective way to train them). The directions had soemthing to do with putting a litter box next to the toliet then using layers of newspaper to gradually get it to the height of the toliet.

Yes and no. I don't know if I want to share my toilet with my cat. They spend enough time in the bathroom when we go in there.

I have not heard of anyone doing this before other than seeing it in the movie "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers". That is the only time I have seen or heard about anyone doing this. My neighbors have cats and they do not allow their cats do that either. I think it would be funny to see this but at the same time I would worry that my cat might fall into the toilet and drown.

It is an insert that fits on the toilet, so they cannot fall in.

My nine year old female cat just started doing it one day, all by herself. She would either use the toilet or the bathroom sink. She never did flush, lol, but the mere use was good enough for me, and she never did teach her brother.

Wow, so now you have no litter? She always does it in the sink or toilet on her own?

I was thinking about it, my kiiten is to small now, but I am getting her to use litter box elevated next to toilet. I learn long time ago how to do it without training set.

I dont think they should be useing the toliet they are animals not humans. I dont have a problem with them using the litter box at all. I just think that is abnormal. Even though I treat me cats like part of the family I am aware they are still cats and should go in the litter box.

I agree. I just thought that was weird, and wondered who used them.

I no longer have a cat, but I have a dog, and the idea of him using the toilet sends shivers down my spine. If I mention this to my husband, I think he will be ill for weeks.

I have heard about this, but I know that I wouldn't have the patience to train my cat. Besides, he would probably spend more time "playing" in the water than anything else! That's why I'm a fanatic about keeping the toilet seat lid down! I'll stick with the litter box and sift it out every day. It's not a big deal these days with the fresh scented scoopable litter. Do you remember the days where all they had was that clay litter that smelled up the whole house?

Yeh, I remember those days. I use the pine natural pellets. They are better than any clay litter around.

Well I never really tried doing that practically, But I have seen some pets that can use the toilet as well as use the flush after each use! I was very surprised at the capabilities of animals, I guess they are a lot more intelligent than the credit we give them :)

We thought about that, but never got around to doing it just yet. We think it is goig to be too expensive, but I sitll think that we shuld do it. So, we'll look into that pretty soon.

Hi Margie
No I have never seen one of them before so I would not know if they worked or not but I can't see a Cat using a Toilet somehow and I don't think I would want mine to use it lol
Hope you had a lovely Birthday yesterday

I have never used this but what a great idea. I don't know if I would have the patience to do it. My daughter moved out and stuck me with her rabbit. I don't have the patience to train him to use the litter box and that is supposed to be easy. Are you going to try to do this? I only have one cat so we don't go through alot of litter and I use the scoopable kind. I clean it every second day so it smells ok but going to the toilet what will they think of next.

I am not sure if I will or not. I have a 9 years old and 15 month year old. Just wanted to hear from y'all if anyone actually has done it. I use pine natural pellets, it's biodegradeable and no odors at all. Thanks dear. Enjoy your bunny and kitty.

Do they also open the lid and close it without banging? A very important detail??

I don't know. I think it just sits there and you have to do the rest.

Hi Margieann...most of the these toilet training kits are quite flimsy and for a heavier cat they can be frighteningly dangerous because cats feel unstable and fall through. For kittens they are fine, however toilet training requires an extraordinary amount of patience to teach a cat to learn how to use a human toilet. Both my cats are toilet trained, but we didn't use these kits rather a medical sitz bath bowl placed within the toilet which is a sturdy plastic bowl. Anyhow, one of my cats already was trying to copy me using the toilet so I offered to coach him along and the other cat soon began to copy him. Anyhow, the process to toilet train a cat can be an arduous task and not without it's own set of troubles (fortunately not falling in the toilet was one of them). Depending on the cats' age, individual temperament, aptitude to learn toilet training can take anywhere from 3 months to 18 months to learn so it's not for everyone since you have to be present 24/7 in the beginning stages of training, when the litter box is completely removed and in the final stages to help a cat learn to balance on the seat without the bowl inside the toilet.
You can learn more about toilet training techniques found in the Internet and one particular website which seems to draw a lot of attention is Misha the toilet trained cat: http://www.karawynn.net/mishacat/toilet.html
