Cat grabs food with paws.

I have a cat who is about 8 months old and she eats with her paws. She gets next to her dish and takes the food out of the dish with her paw and brings it to her mouth like it is a spoon that you eat with. I have tried to catch her but she always moves.

my friend's cat has become the master of stealing the food off the baby's tray while he's trying to eat. the baby, of course, thinks this is hysterical so also feeds the cat the baby's food when nobody's looking. too funny! :)

That is adorable. I bet the baby does think this is funny and the cat is probably loving it! It seems funny, but it probably isn't because the cat is getting the food and not the baby! :)

Some cats are born with a genetic defect which makes them polydactyl. They have an extra digit on their front paws that they can use like an opposable thumb to allow them to pick up things. I'll upload a few photos of it to my profile page if you want to see them. My friend had a cat that was so good it could catch a wicket coaster like a frisbee and then toss it. I never saw anything so amazing. One article I read said this mutation became popular in the Florida Keys where Hemingway lived. The were a lot of feral cats there and the ones which had the polydactyl trait were able to catch the small fish which were trapped in the tide pools when the tide went out. So they were better able to survive and passed on that trait more frequently.

I have two cats that do that sometimes. It's fine. They are interesting creatures, and vary from cat to cat.

That is ssssoooo cute! She is trying to be a human, or just doesn't understand that she doesn't need to use her hands! Silly kitty...eating with your hands is for humans!! Haha. :D

That is too cute. You have to get a picture of that. My cat loves to have the juice of the tuna can pour on her food. As soon as she hears me get the opener out she comes running even if it is not tuna. Boy does she wail if it isn't tuna. Just like a spoiled child.

I had a cat for a while who wouldn't eat his food unless Iput it in the microwave for a bit. He didn't start out that way. He was pretty catty at first. He'd even eat dog food. But when he got older he realized that everyone else got their food out of the microwave and decided his should be treated the same way.

Well, I think that cat wants to be like a human since she lives with them. I think that is so cute.

That's pretty cool! You need to set up a camera to record her doing it without you standing there. Then you can post it on YouTube and post the link! I would love to see that! I have never heard of a cat doing that! LOL

Its really surprising but i feel not unusual considering that human beings do take rebirth as cats and their old eating habit remains in their memory

Don't let her near your purse. She'll find your wallet and before you know it you'll find hundreds of dollars in catnip charged to your credit card. ;-)

If you think that's funny you'll love this: My dog (Masha) picks up a piece of food, tosses it in the air and then runs to chase it. She does this over and over and over! It's sooo funny to watch her at meal time! Vali (my other dog) picks up a mouthful and walks about a foot from the bowl, then drops it all over the floor. He then picks up each piece and eats it. I think my dogs are both insane!

I have two cats. One of them does the same thing. She also eats from our plate when we are done by putting her paw in the food and then licking her paw. She loves anything with tomato sauce and mashed potatos.
