I drove one from Miami to Orlando and found that the mileage on the car was decent but not spectacular... what I was really shocked was the lack of power the car had with the lackluster gas mileage. As for the maintaince and safety I don't know since I was just renting the car. Another thing is there are certain things about the car that just don't make sense. To open the window it's in the CENTER console not on the door... uh, why? I never did get the cruise control working and even trying to use the wipers properly was a chore. But I am sure these are things that you would get used to as an owner.

I test drove one the other day, thinking of buying and yea, I didn't understand about the windows. However, it is designed after a vehicle from back in the day, and maybe that's where the controls were for it. Who knows.

To be honest, I do not really know much about them, so I can not say for sure if they are or not.

Travelling at the same speed can help fuel economy there are also other steps you can take. You need to drive sensibly. Speeding, rapid acceleration and braking wastes gas. Using cruise control can cut down on fuel usage. You can limit the amount of idling this does the car no good. Try to reduce the amount you drive. Maintain your vehicle. Reduce the weight you carry in your car. I am unsure about PT Cruisers though.
