My daughter will turn 14 this coming week and she wants to have a slumber party. I was trying to come up with some good activities for her and her friends to do. We'll be stocked with pizza, popcorn and junk food, movies and video games but I want something fun and original for them to do. Anyone have any good ideas? What about games?

For a fun variation on the makeup activities, try doing "No Mirror Makeovers"... the girls do their hair and makeup, as best they can, without mirrors or help of any kind. Best one can win a little prize. Be sure to take digital photos or Polaroids so the girls get a souvenir ;)
Another fun one is called "Do This Dice." For this one, you need two boxes (fairly big) which you can cover in plain brown paper. On each side of each box, write a "command"... examples might be jump up and down, sing a song, sing the National Anthem, yodel, spin around, lay on the floor with your feet in the air, etc. Anything you can dream up! Then the girls take turns "rolling" the dice. Each girl has to do the two commands (one from each die) simultaneously for a fixed amount of time (15 seconds, 30 seconds, whatever you decide). Great fun if you have a video camera!
"SuperHeroes" can be fun, if you like costume-type games. Get a bunch of old Halloween costumes, old clothes, masks, toilet paper, anything at all. Divide them between two bags or boxes. Divide the girls into two teams and time them. Each team has a fixed time to dress one of the team members as a "superhero"... they can try to do a known one (like WonderWoman or something) or they can make up one all their own (I am "I look just like your brother Man!"... it makes for a lot of laughing and, again, good photos :) If it's a smaller party, you can do one bag and the girls just take turns making up a costume for themselves, again with a time limit.

A party that you put on for your kids is a big deal and they will remember it. That's why it's important to be original and you had some great ideas!

LOL thanks :) I like to try really hard for the kids, so they have something different to do each time -- sometimes they like it, sometimes they don't. You never can tell and it often depends on the overall group. But, it just seems they all do the same things now. When we used to have parties (slumber or otherwise), we had music, we danced, we had different kinds of foods, etc. Now, all they seem to do (especially the older teens) is just sit around with movies playing or video games or what have you. I'd think they'd be tired of doing those things at home and would want to try something fun as a group, now and again, you know?

most of the time 14 year old girls find their own fun. they like to giggle and talk about boys. messing around with their hair, and putting on make up. just fun things like that. most of all they really like privacy, so as a mom of 3-almost grown- i would give that advice!

I say just leave them be, and don't bother planning anything. Just toss the food and drinks into the room, & give them the movies(make sure there's some hot guy in it for them to fawn over). All they'll want to do is sit in the bedroom and squeal OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH can you believe what she said/what she was wearing lol, while they're talking about everybody at school. They'll do the hair/make up thing on their own. Buy some facial stuff for them to do on each other, you know mud masks and such.

Perhaps let them do each others nails and facials, like a little at home Spa. They could always play a game of Truth or Dare as long as it's kept rated for their ages of course!

Thanks. We've thought of the hair and nail thing. That's unavoidable for teenage girls, that and the boy talk.

Why not try a fashion show- get some outfits together (fun stuff and cool stuff)- have the girls make each other up hair and makeup then each girl will have to write something about themselves and their outfit: Ann likes to take walks on the beach with her dogs, today she is modeling her beach to boardwalk outfit, don't you just love the colrs....etc.

I just want to give an update....The girls had a BLAST! They giggled all night! They did the make overs, scavenger hunt, games and there was no movies or video games which I was surprised about. They were up until 5:30am! My daughter had a great birthday and that makes me happy. Thanks for all your great ideas!

How about a spa for the girls. They can learn about skin care or do a little pampering session. Let them have a foot soak, pamper the feet, get out an exfoliating scrub, follow with moisturizer.
They could also do makeup makeovers. They could take turns doing another friend and vice versa.
Most girls love this kind of thing. I hope your daughter has a smashing party!

A fun game i used to play at slumber partys was the donut game. You hang donuts from the ceiling using a piece of string and level it with each childs mouth, the child then has to stand with the hands behind there back and try and race each other to be the first to eat the donut, no hands are allowed just your mouth and as the donut swings around it can be very hard and very funny. Another things we used to do at partys was magic drinks, we would place a drop on food coloring in the bottom of the cups and then fill them with lemondade, each drink would come up a different color based on the food dye in the cup and the children will be amazed

the obvious things for girls to do is have a mini make over session...like use face packs, do each others hair/make up etc...it is a bonding thing that teenage girls seem to do. although they will probably spend alot of the time talking about boys, as teenage girls do...they will have fun while doing it. another thing you could do is watch teenage chick flicks? like lindsay lohan movies, they are a popular choice of teenage girls...hope this helps

Maybe you could try doing a mini fashion show. Have your daughter and her friends dress up and have some dance music on.
