I am soo scared of flying and I will be going on a airplane in March. I have only been on a airplane once (round trip) and was soooo scared. I hated it and was in a panic the whole time. What do you do to calm your self down? Do you take anything before you go or do you just tough it out? I realy need help other wise I will be driving to FL from TX and I can't realy do that. Please send good responces, , need help with this one.

I am not afraid of flying. But I always take a book or something to keep my mind off of it. And then I also sleep though most of it.
My partner took his laptop so that he could watch movies the entire time.
Maybe if you buy a movie before you leave and you have a laptop or a portable DVD player, watching the movie will keep you mind off of it.
At least by the time you are about to land, the movie will be about done! :)

I am a little bit afraid to fly, and haven't flown in about 17 years. It is not my favorite thing to do, and I don't really have a reason to be afraid. I just like being on the ground, I guess. I do like arriving at my destination quickly though, and me and my family of six, may be flying to Florida in a few months. Not looking forward to that!

Yeah, alot of people do go through that. I am not necessarily afraid to fly, I just don't want the plane to come down with me on it. I'd rather die on land than drop from the sky anyday.

I wish you all the best with your flying trip this time. I pray for you!
In a hope that you would enjoy this flying trip, perhabs you could also help yourself by thinking that you are not flying. Instead you are just in a place with some strangers and you will get there in a very short time.
Don't look outside, if you think you are scared. Just go inside the plane, try to make yourself busy (like reading, eating, nibbling, praying, playing games or listening to the music, or talk to the person next to you, etc).
Or, you could also drink something to calm your nerves down, or sleep during the flight and ask the flight attendant to wake you up when you get to your destination.
If you could make your flight last time (like you said you did), keep on saying to yourself I could do this. I did it before! Don't forget to remind the flight attendant that you are scared of flying, who knows they would try their best to support you. After all, that's also one of their job's description.
Again wish you luck on your trip, CatEyes.

I really love flying. I basically try to erase all the negative thoughts from my mind. Worse accidents and things happen on the ground every second of the day. I usually like the movies that they show on the plans and since I usually fly internationally I am on a plane for 9 hours at a time most of the time. It is good to just relax as best you can. I sleep sometimes to and that makes it go by quicker.
It seems like a rollercoaster ride to me when it goes up. That is the way I look at it.
DRIVING from TX to FL would be a killer for me. That I couldn't and wouldn't even think about doing. The most I would drive is about 4 maybe 5 hours at the most. Anything more then that I am on a plane in a hot second.
Take some things you like to do. Read, crochet, puzzles. Take some relaxing pictures of you and your family or of soothing environments or happy vacations that you have taken and reminisce about happy times.
Best of luck!!

I love flying. it's great but sometime the smaller planes can be a bit bumpy. and the take off can be like a roller coaster ride depending on the airport. First do a litle prying. It helps to put youself in God's hands. I really enjoy looking out the window when I get a seat on one. Take a book to read one that is really fasinating and you can't put it down. Sounds like a short flight. I usually sleep if I don't get a window seat. Just try to look at it look a car ride. hope this helps.

My mother in law takes valium. You could ask your doctor and they would probably give it to you. My dad hates to fly so he goes to the bar before he gets on the plane. It helps him not be so nervous. I don't mind flying. The only thing I don't like is that I'm not in control.

I've tried a couple of sedatives on flights and I have to say Valium (or at least it's generic variation) wins hands down for me in terms of my fear of flying. Just be careful because it can have really bad interactions with other medications so make sure your doctor knows everything you are on before you take it. It can be habit-forming but you will more than likely be given only the minimal amount you need for this situation.

I am really afraid of flying and I've flown a lot and will on several flights later this year. Each time it gets harder for me. I know it's irrational and I can't help it. I think it's because you are so out of control of the situation.
Will you be flying with someone? It can help just to hold (or squeeze!) their hand and know they are there. As people have mentioned, sedatives can calm you down. For me, take off and landing is the worst, turbulance also. When a plane hits turbulance I always watch the airline staff closely for signs of panic but they don't even seem to notice it and continue with their duties as if nothing is happening.
If you have active staff on the flight (sorry no idea how long the flight between Florida and Texas is) mention it to one of them at the beginning and they will keep an eye on you and reassure you.
Did you stay away from the windows last time you flew? If you are afraid of flying it can actually help to sit by the window and look out, facing your fear somewhat but also providing you with something amazing and unique that you don't get to experience every day or in a car.
