Which movie out there that you have seen, bothered you? I mean REALLY bothered you, really got into your soul and didn't leave it alone for quite some time.
I know the movie Trainspotting really bothered me. Not because of the content, because I grew up with people like that, but because of some of the scenes. For example, the baby dying and the mom really didn't care, because she was too high on whatever drugs she was on. The image stayed in my memory for quite some time...
So....which movie did this to you? And why?

Million Dollar Baby. I think it so close to home because as a disabled person, and having so many disabled friends, the idea of just giving up because of it really, really got to me. That someone could think life isn't worth living because of a disability, even a severe disability, really got to me. I couldn't shake it for months.

The Exorcist didn't bother me so much... the Exocrism of Emily Rose which was a b-rate movie at best... that disturbed me. I don't get it. I think I was expecting more out of the Exorcist because I didn't see it until I was 14 and I heard all this "scariest movie ever" "subliminal messages" etc. etc from everyone else.

The Exorcist did not bother me, but it bothered my sisters.. and I do have Spirits in my home. So they had fun teasing both my sister and I. There is nothing like my joking with my sisters with a Hindu Chant playing on my computer, and suddenly it changes in the middle of the chant to the Exorcist themesong midi file... and my sister turns around thinking I did it then I saying, "Hey not funny spookies, put it back on my chant!" then it switches back to where it left off... Those Spirits can be fun at times, but they sure can get pesky too, and it does not help when you family is afraid of them thinking they are demons, but I know they are just my passed on Grandparents teasing us. :) .

There have been some disturbing movies that I have seen. One that was just so heart wrenching was Sophie's Choice. I remember my girlfriend really liked Meryl Streep, so we went into this movie at a premier in Philadelphia not knowing what it was about. It was so ....uh, just surprising and jaw dropping and left you aching over and over again.......
we left the picture and walked back to campus mostly in silence.
It still bothers me a little when i think back at it. the most disturbing thing is the scene where she is forced to make another choice----does she give up her son or her daughter? It is an unfathomable choice that I cannot even contemplate and it was very hard for me to watch then when I had no children. I cannot even think of the possibility now.

The 1996 movie A Time To Kill. When the guys raped and brutallized the little girl, I never forgot that. My daughter was 2 years ol at the time and seeing that made me sick. Then in the movie that father goes and kills the guys who did that to his little girl and they charged him with murder. I didn't blame the man for killing the guys and watching the movie was so intense.

One of my favorite movies but you're right, it's haunting as well - the beginning and what happens to the girl.

There are alot of movies that have bothered me - movies that have haunted me.
Carrie is one that I use to have nightmares about and I'm not one to get scared about movies but that one just bothered my soul.
Se7en is another one - this has to be the one that got to me the most and still does. I won't spoil the ending but what a sick twisted movie.
Passion of the Christ is one that made my soul cry. I mean literally cry. I think I ached more from watching that movie than any other.
There are others but I can't think right now.. maybe I'll come back and post more if I think of them.
Oh and for my husband, you all might think this is funny but Ghost haunted him for many years in his dreams. He would dream that those little black things were always coming to take his soul. I love that movie but we can't watch it because of the nightmares it gave him.

Just remembered a couple of more -
American History X - the curb scene. If I think about it, I almost can't mentally handle picturing how that would feel. It makes me feel ill.
American Me - Alot of the prison scenes and the prison rape scenes have stayed in my head. Just the whole movie, was pretty bad.
StepMom - This one was more of a close to home emotionally wrenching movie for me because I lost my mom to cancer and I basically sat and cried watching it.
Also .. Steel Magnolia's for the same reason. The scene at the cemetary - I have seen this movie a dozen times and I still cry.

I forgot about American History X. That was a fantastic movie that I think everyone on this planet should be made to watch. I think it could really open a lot of peoples minds (and hearts) up to people with different races and cultures. When the movie went off the first time I watched it I was shaking. I said - My kids will watch this movie so they can see how riducolusly ignorant people can be over the color of someones skin.

Yes, you are so right. I had seen this movie a long time ago but I bought it this past Christmas for our own home DVD collection. We just watched it last weekend with my son. Very powerful message about racism in this country and the price people pay for feeding into it.
Thanks for your response!

There are several movies that got into my nerves.. And one of those is Armageddon..I really can't imagine how it feels that the two most important person in your life will be in danger at the same time. It's really bothering.

Although there are a lot of great movies mentioned here, the one most recently that affected me was "An Inconvenient Truth," which is the movie that Al Gore did about global warming. There are so many stunning details about what havoc humans are causing to the planet and the animals and fish on it. Polar bears are drowning because there aren't enough ice floes for them; fish are dying in the tropical areas like the Great Barrier Reef because the water has gotten too warm. I think that the denial by so many people of this issue can really make you sad and think, how can I turn this around. I hope that everyone who has the chance to see this movie will do so. It's powerful and a clear warning that we need to change how we behave today so that we don't ruin the planet for the future generations.

I agree with many others who have responded in that there are actually a lot of movies that have bugged me in one way or another but I think the biggest one is one that I saw when I was too young to be watching it.
It was called Bug and is about these mutant cockroaches. It is from 1975 and I was 7 or 8 when I saw it. It really freaked me out and made me squeemish but the worst part is that it had a life long effect on me.
Because of this movie I have a terrifying fear of cockroaches and any bug that looks like them. I mean the kind of fear that causes me to run and cry because one got close to me. I have even run over my disabled sister because I was trying to get away from a roach.
Incidentally she also saw that movie when I did and now she alos has this same fear. She once woke her kids up at 2am and went to my parents house because she saw a roach on the wall above her bed.
We know this is an irrational fear and we are both working on getting better but that movie really left a scar on both of us. We are now 37.
That is one thing I would gladly change about my life if I could, although watching the movie was not my idea. Our aunt who was babysitting us put that on for us and made us watch it so she could go watch her tv show.
Anyways, it still effects me today almost 30 years later.

The Old Poisideon Adventure.
Not the new one that just came out.
I was 14, and it came out in the movie theater. Never saw the whole movie. Left when the ship turned upside down.
Scared the bejesus out of me. I am now 44, and still won't see it.
Drowning has an effect on some people, and I guess I am one of them.
