One of my relative (male) who is 71yrs old married an 18yrs old girl. I was quite shocked to hear about this on phone yesterday. I mean a person who is 71yrs old married only 18yrs old girl. I always thought the age difference should be 5yrs or less in couples. But in some cases its ok till 10-12yrs also. But in this case the age difference is 53. What do you think about this? In your view what should be the age difference of married couples or lovers should be?

Hmmm... no I don't think that age difference is good. That is way too much of a difference between their ages in my opinion. I can't even imagine that any 18 year old girl would want to marry a man that age. That's kindof sad for her.

For me maybe 4-5 years will be the most acceptable one, but then I wouldn't have that much problem with a man 10 yrs older than I am, cause I really prefer a guy that is much mature for I believe I am mature for my age. Big age difference really attracts a lot of attention that's why sometimes it's hard to follow your heart when we always think of what other people will say. But in fact, as long as you are compatible with each other and your personality just compliments each other's then I guess that really is the most important thing.

i think an ideal age difference between a lovers must be 2 to 4 years and the boy must abe elder , even in case of marrieage also from 2 to 5 years of difference is ok or good, but the boy must be elder to the girl and that will make a nice pair. too much age difference is not good for thier thoughts and feelings.

I disagree with the comment of the male being older. I have been with many older women and it was better than youngers.

well. i think age doesn't matter anymore as long as both parties love each other. no matter how older or younger you are compare to your partner. the important is you both understand each other's side. but on the other side, if you are really looking at the age, i would prefer that guy should be older than the girl...that's my opinion... i was with a guy whose age is the same with me...he seemed irresponsible in many things in life (serious things) or let me say he's not yet open to those serious matters... now, i'm with the guy who's 6 older than me...he's mature enough to think unlike the first one.... but sometimes, i used to think that maturity depends on the person himself.

I think if people are really in love it doesn't matter on their age. However there are obviously problems related to the age gap that they will need to work through.

Thanks for responding! And yes, it is said age doesn't matter in love, but still I think the age difference shouldn't be too much between the couples.

I agree completely. Love is very blind, and you can find yourself in love with anyone at almost any time. The only real issue I could potentially see with a large age difference between two lovers is the legal ramifications if one is a minor. Whether or not it is ultimately true that age matters, it certainly does to the government, and that's unfortunately, what counts the most.

I think the 10 year rule is a good one. Generaly outside of ten years, 15 at the most. Usualy outside of thease boundrys you are looking at differnt types of relationships. Like a 71 year old man is probably not going to give an 18 yaer old girl a healthy relationship. Maybe just a chunk of his trust. But alot of people still get married as a buisness arangement.

I don't understand how an 18 year old girl could be sexually attracted to a man who is her grandfather's age. It really icks me out. I tend to agree with those who say she just wants his money. I don't think there is really a limit on what the age difference should be, but 53 yrs is a bit much.

conditions, pre-conditions, rules ,regulations, laws , by-laws.. donot rule love. yes for marriage i would agree with you for some extent. but still in instances such as mentioned by you. i think such marriages are of some purpose. this could sound horrible, but if we perhaps think positively it could be something like the old man is planning to give inheritance to those who looks after him ..just an imagination... on the whole love knows no bounds and marriage is just one of the results of it.

that is ridiculous. It is not practical and will never be accepted by the society. I think that the maximum age difference between a couple should not be more than eight years.

Ohh come on sissy, you should not be so fallen on this topic. It is such a common thingy from where I hail. It is called the Great Indian arranged marriage. If you think that a super discussion can destroy this grand tradition, then pleez do consider thinking again. It has stood the fury of Time and Change and Generations to get as disgusting as it is today. Only gud boys out there, who are ready to stand up for what they think is right, is our only hope. I'm one of them and I promise thee thou or whatever it is that i shall not marry a girl unless she is able to call me a boy (This is not valid if she looks rite into my heart, I'm alwez young at heart). HAha. If you ask me, the maximum age difference should be something like 4-5 years. I also think that the boys should be older (dont think ill), that doesnt mean "Me Tarzan, Me King of the Jungle". Just have a life folks. For all ur problems pleez visit: www.thesecret.tv or search for torrents on torrentz.com for the secret. Its a movie and u have to tell me what u think abt it.

That is a big gap.I just don't get what a couple like that would have in common with one another. I think 12 yrs. would be as far as the age difference should be. I know some people would say that when true love is involved does age really matter? My honest oppion, "gold digger".

see basically a relation between two is successful only if both r understanding. so here level of maturity matters a lot. we often see that between men and women of same age , generally women are more responsible and matured. so a girl should always marry a man elder to her, but then this age gap should not be more than 4 or 5 years or else their thinking wont match at all (spoecially if both of them are of the same profession)

this is really disgusting . there are many such cases these days and its very sad that they are on the rise , these people are really abnormal and psycos , because they do what is really embarassing for the other people to bear , and to be very frank , one should always avoid the company of such people .

personally age difference for me in a relationship is not really a big issue but for your above statement it really a huge gap. You can really question about it. Indeed it is really shocking. Sometimes an old man is looking for a companion that they can be with for the rest of their life since they are alone and they like to have a young one thats why your relative chooses the young one. while for the girl side mostly in that young age who have been through poverty they accept some proposals that will make there life good and some are just really for money in exchange to be a companion. But im not generalizing it it depends. SOme relationship like that will last and some are not.Well both benifit with each other. its just my personal opinion.

see a normal age gap can be 3 -4 years.... thoguh for marriage upto 6 - 7 years in even acceptable.... my opwn parents have a gap of 6 years.... I also dont favor the male being elder always.... what for ,,, why? I don't understand the funda behind male being older... u c the poor rules of society.... But ya defintiely this one is shocking.....

for me the perfect age gap is 3 to five years. i don't like it if it's 10 to 12 years, though I like a more mature partner.

My hubby is 15 years older than me. He just turned 50 and really is depressed about it.
