When did you give your baby cereal for the first time? What kind did you use & how much did you give? How well did they handle it?

If I remember correctly it was about 2 or 3 months old , It had a lot to do with the weight of your baby too , but that was over 40 years ago so I am sure things will be done a lot diffent now , xx

Lol--definitely different. Heck it is even different from when my oldest was born. When she was a baby it was rice cereal at 4 months--no earlier unless a doctor recommended it in a bottle for reflux. Now they are leaning towards no cereal before 5-6 months. When my oldest was a baby it was baby food at 5-6 months after going through all the cereals. Now they suggest no baby food before 7 months. My dad is constantly telling me how they started putting pureed food in one of those bottle feeders when I was 2 weeks old. That was 30 years ago and you would get reamed by your doctor and friends for doing that now a days.

We started my son on rice cereal the day he turned 4 months old. He handled it like a pro. He hated the taste of the rice cereal once he tried oatmeal, though. And then we started him on sweet potatoes and squash about three weeks after he started on cereal. That was the end of cereal days for him. We could still sneak it in his fruit every once in a while but that's it.

Around 4 months. I think we bought a bigger nipple for the bottle and tried it like that. There was way more formula in the bottle than rice cereal. As they got used to that, I made it slightly thicker until I could use a spoon. They both did alright but I think it was because I moved so slowly with it.

gosh, it's been a while -- I think it must have been at least 3 months before I started giving cereals. With my 1st child I followed the Dr's recommendations and fed only baby foods. With my 2nd I sort of winged it and fed all blender pureed foods of what we ate for dinner --

I started giving my daughter cereal at about 6 months. She started with the rice cereal and i only gave her about a tablespoon. she was a preemie and really tiny so she wasn't much of a big eater.

I think Nora was about 4 1/2 months old and she got some rice cereal (only because it was cheapest). She didn't have a problem with it but we only gave it to her a few times and then just skipped to baby food. We never even did cereal with Brenna. She went right to fruits and veggies because I found most babies don't like the cereal. Owen got his in his bottle from about 3 weeks until he was about 4 months old for reflux. The only way he would eat it off the spoon was mixed with formula or juice and a whole far of bananas. If you didn't make it that way he wouldn't eat it so when Brenna was a baby we just skipped that stage.

I gave my baby cereal when he turned one year old. I gave him Kelloggs Corn flakes - the ones without sugar frosting. I find that most cereals are just too sweet and full of sugar, not too good for young kids. I started him off with a handful to go with his cup of milk at breakfast time and he liked it very much. However, my son loves to eat, he's not a picky eater :)

My son was only 2 months when I gave him his first cereal, now day's they say you shouldnt give them anything until 6 months. His first was rice and we mixed a little in the formula bottle, it helped fill his belly up so he slept better. He did great with it.

All three of my kids started cereal between 2 and 3 months. They start with rice cereal first then we tried the other plain cereals and mixed. We didn't try cereal & fruit combinations until they had already tried out fruit on it's own so that was another couple of months down the line. They were all hungry little buggers and totally ready for more substantial food - they loved cereal from the moment we gave it to them!

i started giving my baby 2 spoon fulls of cereal in his bottle with 4oz of formula when he was 2 months old. i of course used a baby spoon. he is now 4 months old and eats baby food and has 8oz with 5 spoonfulls of cereal. i use the oatmeal cereal, and he likes it alot! i am going to try a different kind with banana flavor cause he loves his banana baby food!

I started with rice cereal. It was the natural progression for us b/c both of my kids had reflux and had to have cereal in their bottles. I started cereal in a bowl at 4 months with both of them. My first kid did really well with it. My 2nd child wasn't ready yet so he kept sticking out his tongue. It took him a few weeks to ge the hang of it.

It is Gerber baby rice cereal. It should be any where you find baby food. Just put a couple spoons full into the formula to start out with. Keep adding a little at a time every day till it is thick enough to help your baby. But if that is to tricky, there are formulas out there that are premixed thicker with cereal for babies that spit up. You may want to try a new formula. Oh, another helpful hint is if your babies is lactose intolerant like my baby was you may need a soy based formula instead of a milk base one. Read the can it should say. happy mylot day.

When my daughter was 5 months, I gave her the Gerber rice cereal & I think I just gave like 1 TBSP @ first & made it a little watery & she absolutely loved it. So, I just kept increasing how much I gave her each time.

My baby threw up constantly from drinking milk at age 2 months. We didn't know what was wrong with him. The doctors did not know either. So at 2 months, we tried feeding him cereal and it worked. He became less hungry and never threw up ever again.
