Are our bodies designed to cope with the extremes of temperature we live in?

Today in the UK it is really cold. I'm wearing thermal underwear, trousers, warm top and a jumper and long socks and I have the fire on and am still cold. However in the middle of summer I'm hot wearing just a thin top and shorts with the fan on.
Do you think our bodies are designed for these extremes of temperature or do you think in the past we migrated like birds do?

Its my personal vie that human does n't migrate from place to place bu God Himself made human bodies according to their location's weather as He knowns eahc and every thing. I agree that our bodies designed to cope with the extremes of temperature we live in but we can adjust with other location weathers too but its a bit difficult for us. I live in Faisalabad, Pakistan. I am feeling cool right now here but i am sure that as u belong to uk so u'll wear t-shirt here right now if u'll be here but if i'll be in uk then as u sketched its weather condition of today, i'll sit infront of heater for whole day with wearing sweaters etc. more heavy than my weight. Lolz. God made our bodies according to our location temperatures.

I agree that people in hotter countries have darker skin to help them in the sunshine, but what about people who no longer live in their native countries how do they cope with weather that their bodies aren't designed for?

Then our faith'll come here. I am a Muslim and its my belief that God knows each and every thing about us. As i already told u that i am feeling cool on a haze weather but my uncle've been living in usa since last 14+ years and he works whole year and can tolerate the extreme weather of Washington but stay on only last weekend at home of december. His body has ability to go away from home in starting weeks of december but he spent his childhood in Pakistan but on the other hand, I'll n't go away from my home even in november in usa.

I think probably if our human bodies were to bear these temperatures and conditions alone, without the help of heaters, fires or extra clothes in winter, we wouldn't cope too well - agree? So without those things, we couldn't cope alone with the extreme environment and weather. But as humans, we have learnt to ADAPT to them so by using extra clothes, fires, etc. to get through winter, so I think there is the difference. I live down south, so we don't get snow and it can reeeeally incredibly hot at times. I think because of our climate being like this and we have been in the same place long enough, we'd probably sort of get used to the way it is. I know that if I went into the snow for the very first time after years and decades of warm temperate weather, I would have quite a time to try and get used to it, whereas other people have grown up and gotten used to/adapted to it so yeah maybe over time we change to cope better with the extremes of temperature and harsh environments.

You are probably right in that we have found our own ways of adapted by inventing heating and fans.

Historically migration of all species has been caused by weather. We are suited for a temperate climate but not one with constant extremes below freezing or above 100 degrees.

I have often wondered the same thing. I don't think that in the past we have migrated like birds, but often wish that we did. I have said more times than I can count that I wish I could go somewhere warm during the winter months and come back home during the spring, summer and fall. I hate the constant cold, rain and wind. At least where I'm at now I don't deal with the snow. I also don't have to wear as many layers of clothing that you have described. LOL I'm truly thanking my lucky stars at this moment. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I will be fine. I am going on a walk later to pick up my daughter from school, that always warms me up. I tend to get cold sitting at the computer!

In the UK a lot of people go and live in Spain over the winter so they don't have to face the snow and frost. I guess its a good idea, but I don't really like the sun too hot. I love seeing the blue sky and sunshine (I can see it out of my window at the moment) but being too warm isn't much fun, I much perfer a crisp winter day.

You are talking about cold its 33 degrees celsius here and it is hot as hell. The fan does not help we have to use airconditioning. its just crazy.Sometimes we wonder if it's this hot here, then hell will truely be HELL

perhaps its a good job that hell doesn't exist, I hardly think that we are suited to live in that kind of heat.

still cold because you are wearing thrmal underwear, warm top. I think in UK the houses are centrally heated, as such you need not wear all this clothes, instead consume DRY Fruits like cashew, Pistachio nut and take HOT MILK with TURMERIC POWDER.

i do have central heating but I can't afford to run it all day which is why I'm cold. also my radiator in the room where the computer is doesn't work.
How do the nuts help with keeping me warm?

Short answer: no, humans are not designed to be able to cope with temperature extremes on our own. That's why even very early hominids fashioned clothing out of animal skins to protect themselves from the elements. Human evolution began in warm equatorial climates, and it was only much later they were able to spread further North/South, as advancing technology and intelligence allowed them to make things to keep warm.
On a similar note, have you ever thought about how useless we'd be as a species if forced to live in the wild without our modern technology? We're slow and soft, and probably would make easy prey for all sorts of predators and parasites in nature!

Human beings can adopt to the changing environment and that is one of the many reasons of their survival. There is no surprise that we get accumstomed to the chilled winter as well as hot summer. During my Ref. and Aircondition paper, I was given a great lecture in the subject of human comfort and how adaptive we are to changing temperature. So you can say, we are designed to adjust to temp. changes.

wonderful question . really intends to know the facts of the question . Our body can withstand extremes of temperature. of course the temperatures are the key factors of god's drama. depends upon the body condition it will react. You should take proper needy foods suitable to the occasion/season. any untoward incident will lead to disturbance of body due to the extremes of temperature

I know what you are saying it is so cold here right now we have no snow but are kids are on 2 hour delays because of the cold. Without the heat know I don't think our bodies could take this cold weather I know our heat is running no stop at 70 degrees. We have been in the -'s at night. And middle teens doing the day.

I don't think our bodies can handle the extreme temperatures or people wouldn't need to wear thermal clothes during winter. I live in the Philippines and we don't have winter here, so I'm not sure if I can handle the extreme weather during winter.

well our bodies are not that much adapted to surrounding temperatures as they should have been , because we are warm blooded animals....so the extremes of temperatures affect us, so we have to take care that we always remain in surroundings that are favorable to us.....

I think our bodies can cope up with extreme temperatures in the right conditions. I have once read of a man (i read it on Reader's Digest if my memory serves me right) who tries to push his limits by immersing himself to such extremes. =) He survived all of them. =)

Hi friend, "By the things we know that there is a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them; and that he created man, male and female, after his own image and in his own likeness" D&C 20:18. So our body is perfect because it was created in the image of God. In fact we should be very grateful for so many beautiful plants, many kinds of animals, the mountains, the rivers, the clouds that bring us rain and snow including hot and cold temperatures-all these things testify to us that there is a God.

I don't think so. I know people who can't take any cold, and I know people who can't take heat. Sometimes illness/diseases can cause it. I have MS, so I am very intolerant to heat. It is an interesting thought though.

Too right it's cold in the UK today - I'm in Scotland and it's freezing. If I put any more clothes on I won't be able to move! I hate being cold - never got used to it. Some people still do migrate - I'm thinking of people who go to Spain for the winter months. Very sensible I say. I suppose we're lucky in the UK though - we don't really get extreme weather conditions very often. Not the way that other countries do anyway. We just like to complain about the weather more than others I think.

I think we are spoiled. We are used to being warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Yet, when I was a little girl, there was no air conditioning, and we lived just fine. I'll admit it was hot, but that's what we expected, and we had little ways of alleviating the heat. We didn't care how hot it was when we went to a drive-in movie. We swam, drank cold drinks, used fans, went out for frosty mugs of rootbeer. I guess I'm trying to say we worked hard at having fun in spite of the heat instead of holing up in our nice cool houses. On the other side, I've read that if we started toughing it out when the weather started getting cooler in the fall, that our bodies would gradually get used to being in the cold, and it wouldn't bother us as much as it does. I went to college with a guy who couldn't wear anything on his feet for some medical reason. He walked to classes bare-footed all winter long while the rest of us were wearing heavy coats and boots. His feet were just used to it.

I'm thinking that our bodies are not equipped to deal with those temperatures alone. I think that people either had their own ways of staying warm (hides, fire, etc.) or they migrated.

Wow, what a great topic. I have never thought of this before. Perhaps we did migrate! I mean birds and lots of animals do it, so why wouldnt we do it? Very though provoking!

Our bodies were made to adjust to different temperatures. However, they only adjust to a certain point and that's normal. Right now it's 5°, and I doubt it's going to be any warmer today.. I have on pajama pants, socks, a t-shirt and hooded sweatshirt. I'm perfectly fine, I walked outside a few times already today, wearing this and I wasn't bothered. I also think it just depends on the person and how well they adapt to things. I would probably die if I ever moved back to Florida, because I'm so used to this weather in Pennsylvania.

We are warm blooded animals and
our bodies can cope with extremes of temperature.
It is just up to you to decide
where exactly in this world would you like
to be at the moment, maybe settle and live as well.
I grew up in the South Pacific Tropical
islands and never knew the beauty of our weather
until I moved to New York City a decade ago.
New York City is the best and loveliest place
in the world
but I just couldn't stand the cold weather!
I hate wearing tight, thick, layers of clothing
for so many months in a year.
As soon as I finished my contract ,
I decided to go back to my tropical paradise.
Now I just visit New York City during the fair weather
like spring and summertime.
We are still like birds migrating for self-preservation.
Airplanes have been invented to ease up migration.
