Yeah i agree with you that though ponting is good player but ganguly is better. As Ganguly 's record as player & captain esp. In ODIs say a lot he has been match winner for India with his explosive knocks, and with sachin they form one of most succcessful opening partnerships India or world has had. Beides he is good in taking calculated risks and is treat to watch with his trademark shots. Ancd can play pace and spin with equal confidence. Besides the way he went after aussies in last tour of India to australia shows lot of maturity and leading from front and have guts to fight it out.
Though ponting has bee very good form in lst few years. But he is not so comfortable agaisnt quality spinners esp. agaisnt Harbhajan when he got consecutive ducks. besides it iseasier to get good scores when your team is on top like is case with aussies.

being an indian i wud say ganguly.... especially aginst spineers... when he dance down the track u r assured its a six....
but ponting can play better against ball teams and all bowlers... he is one of the outstanding individuals in the australian team..
just because there r other australian players equally good to ponting... he is unable to as popular as other players such as lara, kallis, cairns etc.

well i would say ganguly is in no where comparision to the ponting, remember the way ponting played in the world cup finals, aussies are tough and are difficult to match around.

You got to be joking, man. Ganguly has been nowhere near as good as Ponting in the last 5 years or so. Ponting has been one of the most prolific batsman in the last 5 years in both tests and ODIs. In tests he has scored more hundreds and more runs than any other batsman in the last five years with an astounding average of over 70 and add to that the amount of runs that he saved in the field, in both forms of the game.
If he keeps playing the way he has been in the last few years, he will surpass all batting records, certainly in test cricket, including Tendulkar (especially if Tendulkar keeps playing the way he has been in the last few years)
Besides, Ponting is technically far more superior than Ganguly and has scored runs against every country, in every conditions and against every kind of attack (pace and spin) and has no apparent weaknesses as compared to Ganguly whose weakness against short-pitched bowling has been exploited on numerous occasions and his tentativeness against moving ball outside the off-stump is also well-known.

In what sense you are saying, I dont think in any manner Ganguly beats Ponting, in agrressiveness in scoring hundreds in tests, in fielding and also facing bowncers, I think ganguly had only more ODI hundreds than ponting, I think after some time this will also written by Ponting

both are great players. Ganguly already made 10000 runs and he was known best captain for indian team. on the other hand, pointing is consistenly playing well, making one by one century and no doubt he is the pillar of Australian team, he has made his team, every player should respect for him. so my point of view is that both are the master of his own country.

let me explain why you underestimate Ganguly. it seems that in a very short span of time, you have forgotten Ganguly's contribution that he has given to Indian Team. it was his bad phase that he was dismissed by the selectors, but today if you see Yuvraj, Kaif, Harbazan, Zaheer, Sehwag, he was the pillar of his succeess. the motivation, confidence which we are watching among such players, it is Ganguly's work.

You're right Radesh. Whereas our bengal tiger, dada, roared mightily against the aussies in australia when we last toured, I can still remember ponting helplessly hopping around the crease to harbajan, getting duck after duck in the series and became our laughing stock in our penultimate home series against them. Let's get it straight, our dada can face fast bowlers, but ponting cannot even dream to face quality spinners. SO OUR DADA IS THE BEST, IN FACT, COMPARING PONTING TO HIM IS AN INSULT TO HIM.

Both of them are good players. But considering pointing's performance in test we should say that he is a better player than Ganguly.Ganguly I think does not have the concentration of playing long innings like Pointing thats why he has no double centuries like pointing in tests.More over Ganguly opened the innings most part of his ODI career when feild restrictions are there and scoring runs is easy but Pointing dint thats why Ganguly could score more runs than Pointing.
