If you are into checking out abandoned buildings, haunted places, ghost hot spots, sanitariums, asylums or sanatoriums then this is one website that you will want to check out. In my eyes this was a great loss; both of historical and social importance. It could have easily been converted into something that could have served a true purpose instead of another strip mall with five Starbucks.
The website is amazing and has a tremendous amount of information for viewers to look through. The photographs are equally enthralling and if memory serves me correctly, there are some of strange apparitions that have been spotted there.
If you would like to read more about Danvers or Essex, check out my editorial that I wrote in October of 2003

ooh that sounds creepy. There was an abandonded school near where I grew up, and we sometimes would go in there and check it out. It always felt a little spooky in there. There's something about abandonded buildings- it's like a leftover skeleton of times.

I enjoyed reading that! I love reading about haunted places! We have a show over here called Most Haunted - I'm sure it's shown in the states too and some of their 'live' ghost hunts have been fabulous! Next week they are doing a live ghost hunt in Transylvannia which I can't wait to watch!! Last time they did the vaults in Scotland and it was absolutely amazing!

I've watched it but it is taxing to see so many low light scenes. Everyone is walking around with red eyes and most of the time it is impossible to see anyting. Linda Blair (from The Exorcist) used to hose one of the best 'haunted' shows but I think it got cancelled because of low ratings. We are going to the cemetray today to take some pictures, we got more snow during the night and EVERYTING is covered in five inches of snow. I just hope they managed to get the gates open!

I took about twenty of them and didn't realize that I had it on the wrong setting; it was set to take pictures within five feet instead of those at a distance. I posted one on my page, you can see how fuzzy and slightly distorted it looks. I am hoping to go back today and get some new ones, the sun is out but nothing has started to melt!

Thanks for the info...that place looks very creepy. Another good one to check out is Linda Vista Hospital in California. It was the principal setting for the movie "Boo". The actual location is probably the scariest part of the movie

That sounds so creepy. Have you ever watched Ghost Hunters? They have gone to a few places like this and I agree, it would have made a great place for something like this.
I think it is also a sin that these are places where so many people live out their lives and then we put a strip mall over it. It's almost like building on a cemetery.

There were hundreds of bodies in the on-site graveyard. Most were only tagged with a numbered headstone because at the height of disease, they couldn't keep track of who was who. While the contractors say that they removed every body and buried them elsewhere, I have my doubts. If they start hearing voices coming from the televisions at Best Buy, I doubt they'll have many customers.

Geez, it's like the premise for Poltergeist, but with a strip mall. Sheesh!
here's a link to Poltergeist, the 80's scary movie based on building a house on top of a graveyard:
