Being Lied To On Mylot.

Lies - Being lied to
February 9, 2007 2:19pm CST
Why do some people make up stories on this site. I really do not see the point. For the amount of money you make is it really worth it. I just responded to a discussion and when I went on their profile all their discussions were inconsistent. Married, engaged, just had a baby, has a child of 21 yrs and they are only 23 yrs themselves. I just said goodbye to one of the great mylot members stevew1805h. Which was very sad as his discussions I always enjoyed. I hope this site does not loose its honest side and just attract alot of new members to come along telling lies to make money. They would make more doing a paper round!!! Have you been lied by anyone on this site or do you make up stories to get more responses or money?

I don't lie on here, if you tell lies you have to be good at it otherwise you get caught out and I can't be bothered, lying is too much like hard work, although you can have a much older partner and become a step-mum, maybe it's a desperate cry for attention, who knows, I really don't take a lot of notice I'm just carefull who I ask to be my friend and the people who ask me I often never hear from again so it doesn't matter.

I wouldn't usually care but it was a discussion close to what I am going through at the moment, so I thought I could give her some advise. In future I will check. I take your advise on board and will use it. Thanks as always for your kind words.

There are lots of liars and cheats on myLot. We need to stay strong, report them and let them know that behavior is not welcome here. I hope you can take some comfort in believing that even they lied, your words of advice will be read by others and possibly one or more of them will be people in similar situations for whom the advice will be valuable.

Thanks Dragonstar. I have really enjoyed responding to all the comments, even though my eyes are bleeding now and my fingers have gone numb :}

Yes, I have found the same thing: a heart-wrenching story pleading for help in a desperate situation. You take time and trouble to give the best advice you can. When you return to the site you find the poster hasn't returned to his/her own post to get the advice he/she pleaded for. Not one single response. You give the benefit of the doubt: maybe they read it but didn't reply? Then it happens again. A check on their profile reveals so many heart-wrenching stories that they'd have to live ten lifetimes to experience them all! Why do they do? For a few cents? It doesn't make sense! I agree with you that we need more people like Steve. He will be sadly missed.

How true. After I had responded to this discussion I felt stupid as I had been played by this person who was just after making money. If it hadn't been so close to what I am going though now I don't think I would have felt so annoyed. I was gutted when steve announced he was going, I have so enjoyed his discussions. Is it ok if I request you as a friend as I have also enjoyed your responses to many of his posts. Kind regards.

I'd be honoured. I've appreciated your responses on Steve's discussions too. I'm really going to miss Steve too. He was the first person I interacted with on myLot. As you may have noticed, I am a Christian and my relationship with Christ is of prime importance in my life. Steve is an agnostic. In spite of our difference, we have enjoyed great discussions and I'll miss him dreadfully.

Thats what I have found so great about this site, When differences can be put aside and common ground can be found within people who have such different views. This is what I respected about you when I used to read your discussions with steve. I think an on going discussion between the two of you was the first thing I saw when I went onto one of his posts. I look forward to exchanges with you and learning new things. :) Thanks!!!

As this discussion was written a year ago and I have only really starting coming back in the last few weeks I may be wrong now. Lying gets you nowhere in the end and honesty is the best way to have fun here. Thanks

I think I responded to some of his discussions as well, then realised that he was totally inconsistant, I don't see the point in telling lies or exaggerating. I would have thought that most people have enough true stories to tell, that they should not need to resort to lies.

I think some people on here do lie to make money. In general I think alot of people tend to lie or "enhance" some stories because they are insecure in their lives. Sad really. I am sorry that someone on here could hurt you like that with their lies. I have always enjoyed your discussions and your responses! I know this is old but wanted to throw my two cents in since I haven't been around in a long while!

Thanks for your words. The person i was refering to was a complete liar in what they said, and the responses I gave out of sympapthy were useless as they had lied. Good to see you back here. Much respect!!

I don't think that people lie because they want to make money. People tend to tell things which aren't true especially online (oh well, there are also people in real life who do so.. but that's an other topic) In my opinion people who lie about who they are think they have a poor life or way too much time to tell others a story which is just fiction. There are so many reasons why people do so..

Oh yes pal.. i do notice this.. but what i do i just ignore them.. i know why they do this.. its simply to create a topic to discuss and to get response from them. I really enjoy discussing some really matters, giving ideas and also sharing our point of view and i also noticed that i'm getting more knowledge from this. I have to thank MyLot for this.. I really enjoyed replying some real discussions.

I can see where you are coming from. Some people will make up stories just so they can post them here to get some extra cash, that is just the they it is going to happen, in my experience, all of the people of my lot have been nice and honest.

I honestly don't know but if i think something unbelieveable i wont reply and i normally don't visit there discussions again. If i have already oh well =) Personally i don't see the point in people lieing. some people seek attention, i prefer to stay away from it but i can honestly say i haven't lied on here. (the time i lied was a white one a long time ago) Kudos! ~Joey

The ones I feel are made up I avoid, but this discussion was so true to me I stupidly believed it. Oh well I am bothered!!! Thanks for your response:]

To be honest I take most things I read on here (and the internet in general) with a pinch of salt. I'm always honest with my discussions and talk about things general to me, there's very little point in lying in my opinion as it always comes back to bite you on the bum!

How do I know that I've been lied to? Those stories are so convincing that I can never tell. I just respond so that the person makes some money and give their discussion a positive rating to help them out. Like there was this guy suffering from cancer. I don't know if it's true, but I don't want to deny someone the help if I can.

I understand what you mean. It would not be such good a website if everyone were pessimistic and did not respond because they thought the person was lying. I am sure you believe the man suffering from cancer and if you decide to carrying on this support you will see other posts from him that may relate to his illness. However, if a few weeks later his posts tell a completely different story, wouldn't you feel a little upset? Thanks for your comments

Much like you I cant see the point in telling fibs ,the majority of us pop into Mylot to just have a little gossip, although its on a computer. Some of the conversations are excellent, and many that i join into i thoroughly enjoy, but as you have pointed out im very sure that there are a few conversations that I have entered into that have been imagined or elaborated. In one way its quite sad, firstly if you want to lie you have to have an extremely good memory, and usually people will just trip them selves up .All in all it doesnt worry me too much, but I enjoy a good conversation as much as the next person, and to just make stories up as you go along seems a bit silly to me.
24 May 08
I think this is a good point about lying. If people do not have a good memory they are very soon found out. I know someone like this and it is sad that they live their life through lies, I end up never believing a word they say. Thanks for your interesting comments ruby:)

I don't know why people would make stuff up, but maybe they are just getting an opinion for a friend or maybe they married an older guy and he already had a child, so the child is now hers but she did not actually give birth to him, so the 2 years age gap is possible. I have never lied as I never see the need, but I don't see a problem with others doing it as I am not close to anyone on here so I wouldn't be hurt by knowing that they are lying. It may make for a good discussion with good moral debates.

Thanks Elixiress for your comments. I suppose some people will come here to ask questions for other people, or as you say make something up to cause debate, which is always a good thing. I just find it odd when someone makes up such lies and when you look at their profile it is like looking at a different person. Oh well, each to their own!!

I never check people's profiles, so I would never know if they were lying or not.

Wow!!! I am astonished about that. I know people lie, don't get me wrong. But what is the point? Nobody on here knows who you really are and it is the best way to let out a frustration. Not only that but if it came to making up a story (which I never have) but I have seen people tell their own stories but said it happened to "their friend". I think when it comes to something that you may be embarassed about but you still want advice on it and you use the "My friend had ... happen to them the other day..." line, it is perfectly acceptable. But don't lie...don't just sit there and pretend to be something you're not because it's not worth it and you hurt yourself in the long run because you don't know which person people know you as since you were portraying yourself as more than just yourself all along. ItTakesAllSorts, I'm not saying you as in you...but you as in all those people out there who do that that may come across and read this. I don't see the point of people lying really. But that's just my personal opinion. Thanks for the post :D

Great comment mygirls9901, what you say is so true, to lie like this is something people will have to continue with and as I just said in the last comment, it is a shame as they will never get to know some great people on sites like this. Thanks:)

I haven't noticed anyone lying on the site, as long as I have been on here. But then again, it is not something that I ever really thought about, so I wasn't really paying attention. And myself, I would not do it. I hope that this stops, if this is what is happening in here. Now I think I will have to pay more attention to some of the topics that are brought up in discussions. Thank you for making me aware of this.
10 Feb 07
My pleasure. I am not out to hurt anyone and I would never put the name of anyone on this site I don't agree with, even if they are lying. I think people do need to be aware when discussing personal issues they may be being played. I suppose thats why we can look at other peoples profiles, so we can check them out beforehand, Thanks for your comments. I hope you enjoy your time here :)

I dont know why anyone would want tolie here as anyone can check on their profile and see the truth about them. that seems so stupid to me. I don't bother to make up stuff as a person who lies has to keep lying and sooner or later that person is going to mess up royally. As an older person I have lived a few years so have plenty thathas happened to me and have no need to make up anything for any reason. I don't think I have been lied to on mylot butwithout checking every one I could be wrong.

Wow a year old discussion and I am getting responses, thanks. I am glad to know you haven't been lied to on here. When I wrote this blog there seemed to be a lot of new members who were just coming here with fabricated stories. I am glad it is getting back to the old Mylot. Peace

Being as I'm an ex-MI5 counter-intelligence specialist and telepath, I would be able to spot any lies immediately. And as a senior Bishop, it would obviously go against my faith to tell any lies myself.

I don't know if I have ever been lied to on mylot but frankly I see more reason for it here than I do the last site I used. On Answerbag there are a whole group of people who make up entire identities. They steal peoples pictures from photo bucket and create lives to go with them. At least here they might get a penny or two for their otherwise wasted time. I guess those other folks get their pay off from pulling the wool over others eyes. Makes them feel smart. They can pretend to be all the things they don't get to be in real life. The problem with it is, it almost always shows through. For instance, one girl pretends to be a mother of 3. Only problem with it is she doesn't have the vocabulary that a mother of three would have. One guy pretends to be the victim of conspiracy, trouble with it is, all his rants reflect the victimizer vocabulary. He doesn't know how a victim really speaks and you can tell.

Answerbag sounds very interesting. I suppose when no one knows you, you can invent another identity and make up different scenarios in your life. Sad thing is, these people will have to stay in this mode and never get the chance to make genuine friends that can be found on such sites like this. As my name states and what I realised when I started social networking, It takes all sorts...and i was right. Thanks for you comments Lambchoper:)

Yes I have been lied once before joining this site. I was told that it pays much more in a single day, but still I tried to see this site personally and realize that it's your number of postings that counts. This means that person was trying to get me as his referrals - a way of marketing ! He lied to make me his referral, that is why after understanding how this site work, I never joined as his referral. I joined independently. We must be honest in life because wealth comes and goes but honesty is eternal.

Well said excellence. I have joined other sites and some people are just referral obsessed. They expect you to do all the hard work while they reap the profits. Sort of loses the rason what these sites are about. I hope you are enjoying Mylot.
