We played hangman before school, during recess, at noon, and after school for weeks at a time. Then our teacher would lose patience and make us go out to play for a while, but soon we would be at it again.
I guess kids still play it today.

I LOVE HANGMAN!!! I would play that with my children in doctor's offices and other places when we had to wait for long periods. To think that they made millions on the game by twisting it to the television version "Wheel of Fortune."

I think that my family had one called "Bargain Hunt" or Bargain Hunter that we used to play for hours. I know that I really loved it, but my dad was always beating me at the game, lol! We also played Monopoly, of course. I've rarely heard of a family that hasn't *laugh* But the other games that we had, I simply can't remember the names of anymore. I remember owning "Operation", if you'd call that a board game, but I never did well with it and don't remember playing it with the family, per se. I also remember owning Hungry Hungry Hippos, which was such a cute game! ^_^

Risk!!! You remember it! i used to play it for days!
it was a map of the world and you had to try and conquer the world with your armys.
i still think of that map for countries in the world. so in my mind siberia and countries that have gone now still exist, lol

Believe it or not, I had never heard of it until I met my husband! He still had his from his college days. He taught my sons and they played it for days at a time too!

When I was reallllly little, us kids used to love playing chutes and ladders and candyland. When we got older, my dad and I used to mostly play cards, but we'd play yahtzee, connect 4, & aggravation-that was probably our favorite one.

I was addicted to connect 4, othello, checkers, chutes and ladders(when I was way little). We used to play Life for hours. Also Monopoly. One of our other favorites was Careers. I am pretty sure my sister cheated at most of them except Othello. I always beat her at that one.
My best friend had more electronic type games like Simon and Quizmaster.

I played Parchesi and Stretego. Oh boy am I going back in years here. I also loved a game that was called Stop Theif. It was a who done it type game that was really cool because it came with this electronic device that depending on where you were you'd hear footsteps, door creaks etc. It was a lot of fun to play. I've only seen it once since and that was at a Goodwill. I wish now I would have gotten it.

Monopoly....that is a board game that just cannot be finished quickly. We didn't play for hours because we loved it, we did it because someone had to win...I remember on more than one occassion trying to bankrupt myself by eating the houses and hortels I had amassed when no-one was looking...I'm sure the contents of my stomach must look like Wisteria Lane right now

Honest to God Inked,I so look forward to your contributions to my discussions! I've got a visual of your large intestine with the hotels lined haphazardly down the walls, intersperced with an occassional polyp or diverticulum. Sorry, just can't help it. Seen too many colonoscopies.

Do you remember Candy Land and Mouse Trap? I used to love both of those games. Of course Scrabble, Life, Monopoly, and Trivial Pursuit, but those came later as we got a bit older.
Do people still play board games these days? I know the kids probably use strictly computerized games. Our way was sure a lot cheaper, wasn't it?

We playe tons of games at our house because of our range in ages, we had alot to chosed from.
Mind Trap II was a game we used to play for hours when we were adults. You had to figure out the answer to various mind benders. It was really interesting and you had to read between the lines alot. I loved it.
When I was younger us kids always played monopoly and clue. I liked going to my father's for the weekend because my step bothers had Life and we played that all day. They also had battleship and risk. I really liked risk that's where my love for the pc game Civilization comes from ...lol
